Incredibly authentic and genuine hosts. We have been so fortunate to have been guests of these hosts many times and you could not find more genuine and caring people - always going that extra mile, above and beyond. Rivergum Lodge is about as authentic as they come, and it evokes a time when people were happiest socialising, sharing fun and having a laugh with each other. It’s a fabulous base for families, friends or other larger groups - totally safe. Such a relaxed, warm, cosy and homely place. Are guests asked to remove footwear to avoid carrying in mess from outside? Yes. Is that such the big deal as some past reviewers have inferred? Absolutely not - it adds to the cleanliness, homeliness and relaxed atmosphere! Catering here is wholehearted and FAB-U-LOUS! Everywhere is kept clean. The open wood fires constantly add warmth. This lodge is huge and would lend itself so well to weddings, family gatherings and other milestone celebratory events. {In fact, we’re aware some have already taken place here.} Sadly, Rodney - the larger-than-life character who had established Rivergum - is evidently no longer with us.  But the warmth of his spirit and generous nature live on with the current owners and management.  Wonderful place, wonderful people. Go stay there - unless you’re the ‘maist crabbit’ type, who expects others to fawn at your feet, you’ll not be disappointed.

Visited and stayed for June long weekend.
Friendly staff.
Kitchen has been refurbished and looks great.
Food is good  varies each night.(roast on Sat nights).
Breakfast is eggs bacon   sausages toast.
Coffee and tea available.
Rooms are comfortable with heaters.
There are 3  wood burning fires situated through the lodge.
Big fireplace in lounge room.

We stayed over the long weekend, had a fabulous stay 
the food was homely and great portions, with desert also supplied if your stomach has room.
The atmosphere is very inviting with log fires keeping you nice and toasty
Would continue to go here for as long as possible

Stayed at Rivergum lodge over the queens long weekend had a great time, manangement are lovely, friendly people couldn't do anymore to make your stay a pleasant and enjoyable time.
Rooms are very neat, clean and cosy

I've been coming here for many years with a school ski trip and it is perfect. The staff are great and the facilities and maintained perfectly. Spacious common area with TV, pool table and tennis table. Highly recommend.

Great place

Love this place my husband and I have stayed here a number of times over the years. The owner is a great guy that involves himself personally to each and every customer. This unique wooden lodge has a number of different accomodations Avalible from sharing a room with friends with common bathrooms, to your own bedroom room with bathroom or even your own romantic separate wooden lodge with bathroom , open fireplace, small fridge and kitchen.
I have personally stayed in all of these types of accomodation but my favourite is the romantic separate lodge so relaxing.
Rivergum also has a huge lodge with common area with pool tables, open fire, lounge, tv, plus provides a cooked fresh breakfast by the owner himself every morning and options for dinner as well. The pictures are of the romantic lodge only.if you love skiing you must check this place out. 

Snow weekend 

My friends booked this place and were raving about it. It really is a true wooden lodge and has a lot of character. But it definitely scared me when i walked it, the owner is shall we say very unique. He is a nice guy, just not what i was expecting. Its basically a big house with many rooms and bathrooms, so he lends each room to different guests.
You have about 7 bathrooms to choose from, each very different. I definitely did warm up to this place after a few hours but i don't think i would have stayed there if i was not with a bunch of guys i trust. I would not be comfortable as a single female there thats for sure. 

The owner cooks a good hot breakfast in the mornings too, right before you go to ski.
One thing i loved about this place was how clean it was, he had a few girls cleaning non stop. One thing i hated was that there was no hand soap in the bathrooms, what the hell??

Strange place, but comfortable

What a total piece of s###, this place had bats in the room, rodney was super annoying and ignorant, he was like a step dad you don’t want. I hated the rules staying there, living nightmare coming from Canada on vacation. What a clown be he is

Horrid experience

Last minute trip to snow as it was good conditions, last place available. We were staying in one of the cabins (thank God!). Originally booked for just 2 till we were able to confirm care for our disabled daughter and hence know if I could also come. We had this confirmed in less than 24 hours from original booking ( on Monday), booked the extra person, advised the owner (Tuesday), via AirBnb as is instructed - all in plenty of time and less than 24 hrs after initial booking.
Drove from Sydney Friday. On approach around 6.30, we rang as a courtesy to advise our arrival time. We were ‘greeted’ with a brusque response that that was no good as they’d be having dinner! Um, hello, I thought we were guests! Paying guests! My husband was barked the no shoes rules immediately on arrival and demanded, like a child that he repeat back to rude Rodney the rules immediately! Lovely after a 6 hr drive for a holiday! The cabin.....
Listed as being for 6 people..... yes, there are 6 beds, but unless you were a very close family of small people (definitely not small children!) there is no way I would cram 6 people in there. Speaking of numbers! As said, we had informed owner via the appropriate channel 4 days prior that the number had increased, hence ready to pay for the extra person. On Saturday, whilst trying to enjoy what we came for- we get a phone call from AirBnb asking if there were now 3 people as the owner had contacted them to complain about us!!!!! Hello, read your messages! Naturally AirBnb looked at his file, saw our message from Tuesday and saw that he had not read it!! Perhaps that would be a good starting point before accusing and abusing your ‘guests’ of trying to diddle you! This did not make for a pleasant experience. Really quite rude and unpleasant. Facilities were listed as basic, but really? For starters, there are no chairs in the place, there is only a small coffee table - meaning you eat sitting on the floor (which, in front of the fire is nice in a way), or on the queen bed. There are no cupboards, no drawers and only a wire across the room on which to put any clothes. Therefore, if you had 6 people in there, there would be absolutely no room to move with bags and people and stuff. The kitchen???? Basic, basic, sub-basic. All looked fine, but I cooked a stir fry in a saucepan using a fork! Kitchen is missing the very basic implements that you need in a self contained accomodation. No frypan, no cooking utensils at all(!), no chopping board - these are totally basic requirements! I mean, who doesn’t have a cooked breakfast at the snow! How do I cook that without a frypan! No microwave, even though one listed and we had specifically brought microwaveable components of our very basic meals - we weren’t trying to do gourmet! Just feed ourselves something hot and simple after a day in the slopes. There were no coffee cups, just loads of hotel style tea cups with no saucers (could deal with that). In a room for 6 people, there were 2 bowls! And only a couple of soup spoons! I mean, come on! Loads of platter style plates. How hard is it to get such basic things right? Okay, the cabin is nicely built and has a great fireplace AND we were thrilled to have the fireplace lit for us arriving there- but don’t be fooled, that was the only skerrick of customer service shown! Thank God that another place had been available for our last night - SO much better equipped, closer and considerably cheaper! It was most unfortunate that Rivergum was all that was available when we booked those first 2 nights. Don’t do it - stay in Cooma of you must. I note owner’s comment to a previous poor review above - “There’s always one!” Well unfortunately you’ll notice there is more than one! And that comment alone speaks volumes about his idea of customer service! Must owners, if they are going to counter-comment will try to make amends or offer helpful suggestions, comments to entice a future stay- so you can see where his level of service lies purely in his response. I can’t see how people actually enjoy returning to this place - and we weren’t even subjected to all the barked rules for the lodge itself. Never returning. Do not stay here! Save the quote exorbitant tariff!

Cabin TOO basic, brusque ‘greeting’, told off for something we had already informed them off!

Last time I will ever be staying here, have never felt so unwelcome before at a place I paid to stay at. No shoes on inside, no feet up on the seats, no food or drinks in the room...I could go on with the list of things you aren't allowed to do at this place.  

I wouldn't recommend anyone staying here unless you're willing to deal with the owner ("Rocket Rodney" they call him) who is an extremely rude and vulgar man who barks at you if you break one of his "rules". Would rather pay the extra money to stay at a ski resort where there is actual customer service.
