Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is located on a steep slope about 10-15 mins walk to the heart of city centre. If you are driving, there are limited parking lots in front of the hotel which is complimentary, that can saves you easily AUD 20 for the overnight parking compared to other hotels in more central location which has an on-site parking.

The room is basic but clean. The front desk is operating on limited hours hence you may need to get the room key from the safe box if you arrive late into Launceston. Full instructions will be given to you prior to arrival and it is easy.

The hotel is of the low rise without any elevator hence if you have mobility issues especially with big luggage, that may pose a challenge.

If you are on the highest floor (3rd floor), you can have a sweeping view over the Tamar Valley which is quite a nice view to behold. 

The bathroom is basic with a stading shower, WC and wash basin. 

The decor is a little dated but everything is working so I would say it is still a comfortable stay.

Comfortable Stay

I visit Launceston a few times a year & while it was my first time staying at Areca Launceston, I will definitely stay here again.

Tucked behind, & managed in conjunction with the stunning Waratah on York, the Areca Launceston was simple, clean & comfortable. As someone who likes a firm bed, the bed was sensational - probably the most comfortable I've found In Launceston to date. I was also particularly happy to see windows that opened enough to let fresh air through.

Speaking of the windows, the view is lovely, overlooking City Park & down to the river. Which is the only potential downside of this accommodation  - it's perched on one of the steepest streets I've ever seen! Definitely a leg burner. There is a less steep option, but you are on a hillside, and the city centre is down the hill.

Fantastic value

I stayed 6 nights at the Areca in Launceston. Quick and easy check-in. Very friendly staff at reception. The reception is not at Areca but only just behind at the Waratah on York. There is a night entrance and lots of security camera’s around. As a solo traveller I definitely felt very safe.
I would definitely recommend the hotel. Great location, beautiful view of City Park and beyond. 
There is no lift but I managed to manoeuvre my luggage quite easily. The hotel is small and located away from traffic noise, which is great for a good night’s sleep. The bed was super comfy, as were the pillows. Nice toiletries supplied along with tea and coffee station. A lovely walk to town to try out many of the amazing cafes. 
If you have any issues with climbing stairs then I would recommend you request the ground floor. You would definitely need a car if you have any mobility issues as there is a very steep hill to walk down. I walked up and down for my entire stay without any issues and I’m a moderately fit 60 year.
I will definitely be staying at the Areca on my next visit.

Great location

The rooms are quietly located away from the hustle and bustle with wonderful views.  The rooms are spacious and modern.  The City Park, CBD and night-life is quite close. We enjoyed our stay. The management is friendly and helpful.

Highly recommended for a weekend getaway

Nice hotel and very clean rooms. It's in a good location however is at the top of a very steep hill, so walking back from the park took a bit longer than it looks on maps! The room was quiet and had everything we needed, including complimentary parking and a large bathroom.

Nice hotel

Our group stayed one night en route to Derby. We were all very happy with our rooms and had a comfortable night. The staff went out of their way to store the bike boxes for us to .pick up a week later when we left Launceston. We had the downstairs twin room which had a king and a single bed and was larger than the queen rooms. All rooms had views of the city, and refurbished bathrooms. Thanks to the staff at Areca for our enjoyable stay.

Great little hotel convenient location

Our room was lovely, had a great view and was very clean. It was close to City Park and only a short walk to pubs/restaurants. There was no restaurant or breakfast available at the hotel. It was an easy self check in process to get the key to our room from a safe key box. We would certainly stay there again.

Great Views

Areca Launceaton is a a lovely boutique hotel with excellent customer service.  We were served by Pia the receptionist who was very welcoming. 

The hotel has a central location and is not far from the CBD if you have a car. The rooms were clean and had everything you need for a cozy stay. 



Lovely stay @ Areca Launceston 

Fabulous small hotel in East Launceston just a short walk to all the cafes and shops.
Reception was in the guest house behind but this was no issue and we received great advice for our three days there.
Rooms are spacious, bathrooms are beautiful and there are lovely views over Launceston.
There was no breakfast but Sweetbrew and Inside Cafe are a 10 minute walk away.
Parking is provided at no cost. Overall, great position and great value

Top Small Hotel

I stayed at this location in March 2021. Got everything what I expected. Friendly staff, clean rooms and all amenities in the room. Refilled milk daily for my kid. Iron, hair dryer and queen bed fit for a family with a two year old. Didn't need to use the extra bed. Always found a parking space in the parking area. If you get a good deal on this accommodation, grab it !
