Had a good stay here, staff and management are friendly, really went out of their way to help us and advise us on things. Staff do there chores and on the whole place is clean. Good to see lots of maintenance being done, they obviously want to keep improving the place. 
Only criticisms would be, the level of noise (generally from bar below) but I guess its to be expected at a hostel! Could do with some new kitchen equipment (chopping board and some sharper knives), Tv downstairs doesn't work and couldn't see the free brekky. Otherwise, this a good hostel which we would recommend.

Generally a positive experience!

Nice old style building, reasonably clean, big kitchen,perfect position in the city center ad close to the beach and the port. Good company and  friendly vibe. Nice big common area, pool table, recommended!                                      

Family vibe hostel

For the price we paid for a private room, we cannot get too annoyed by this hostel. The frustrating thing was that this is a house ran by backpackers with zero idea what they are doing with zero people skills. It seems like everyone lives there long term and everyone seems to work for money off their accommodation and yet nothing seems to get done. 

I will try to keep this reasonably short:

•Never anyone of reception 
•Private room and yet 'staff' just walk into your room, no knock no purpose just come in. As they woke us having an afternoon nap I asked reception what was going on. She couldn't care less and said the guy didn't understand the system and was counting pillows. Seriously?
•Bathrooms were always locked on our floor, never given an explanation why
•Our floor was always in pitch black 
•As the hostel is run by people who live in the house, weekends get very noisy late into the night and nothing can be done about it.
•Cleaning was always done at times to suit the 'staff' which made using the only bathroom very difficult. Who cleans a bathroom at 8am in the morning? They would unlock the bathroom across from my room on this occasion. 
•bedding on a double bed was a single duvet
•Never any toilet roll in the toilets. I constantly had to ask for some. 
•The air con in our room didnt work, nor was there a fan. Window wasn't worth opening due to the mountain of pigeon excrement outside our window. 
•There was actually a net to keep pigeons off the ledge area outside our room, however this was not maintained so we would spend the night listening to distressed stuck pigeons that had sneaked through the net. 

Basically, if you get this place cheap enough for a place to rest your head at night it's liveable, if not find somewhere that's managed better. This hostel has alot of potential. 



Okay hostel

Unfortunately me and my partner stayed in this hostel. The first receptionist didn’t even offer to help carry our bags when we had a load to carry. The second receptionist was on the phone to his friends and had tobacco on the counter. He didn’t even see our booking even though we booked in advance which was non refundable. When we arrived in the room we said we had no sheets so the receptionist went and got some which he said he’s giving us whatever he finds as I quote “I don’t care”. It’s very rare to see anyone on the desk from the afternoon onwards as they all to be smoking weed. We found glass on the floor and bed as well as fag burns on the sheets. Our first night was next to the balcony where they had loud music playing so we had to sleep with ear plugs. The bathrooms are unisex and half the locks are broken with toilet paper on the floor. They don’t use bleach when cleaning so the toilets constantly smell. When I went to use the shower which was also unisex, a Scottish guy working said to use the other showers and then he began mopping the floor and I said shall I leave until your finished and he said no just go into the shower, even though you could see through the shower so I felt really uncomfortable and just waited for him to leave. The kitchen was filthy as they don’t clean it at night only in the morning.

Awful Hostel

Absolute disaster .... we didn't stay there - although we had paid ...

Reception was full of (untidy) laundry ... clean and dirty. Had to wait for someone to appear - didn't seem to be a bell. Friend was tired - had travelled all day ... 

We were told that would be single occupancy in two quad rooms.  I said (and showed), my booking was for a double room ($65) and a triple / quad room ($50).  Girl decided that maybe there was a double room after all.

We paid (big mistake !), they were giving us bed linen, and I asked for a towel ?  Was told 'no towels' .... not even to hire ......  not sure what you are meant to dry yourself with ?? Maybe your pillowslip ?? You'd just hope previous guests hadn't had the same idea !

Anyway, we went up to the rooms, only to discover that the double room hadn't been cleaned ...   at this point we asked if we could have a refund ... we were going to go elsewhere.  

Girl 'serving' us, said she couldn't authorise a refund, and she would get a manager !

'Manager' (a backpacker)  turned up ... barefoot ... and couldn't care less ..... said they couldn't authorise a refund ....   we  said we were going elsewhere, and left our email addresses for them to contact us.

I rang Booking.com that night and said what had happened, and followed it up with an email.  Said I would give them 7 days, to refund, or I would be posting a negative review telling exactly what had happened.  Now been almost two weeks, and Booking.com, have confirmed that the hostel won't refund.

We went down the road, found a lovely old hotel, with almost palatial suites, including breakfast for $69 each room, with lovely, professional staff, and towels !!!
