We enjoyed our stay in this lovely hideaway. A lot of room with modern facilities and a stunning location. You can enjoy the silence of a forest and also watch the stars on a clear night. Fresh, warm bread & other home made food sat there, ready for us. If you make your way to the very southern parts of Tasmania, consider staying in this beautiful cottage.

Fabulous large cottage in private position behind Barbara’s house. Queen bed in one room and king size plus bunk beds in the other bedroom. Large living area. Home made bread and jam and six eggs. Pleasant  terrace. Five minutes walk to the hotel. We ate twice in the restaurant. The hotel also has a very limited shop (no fresh) and usual fried stuff in take away. Closed at 5pm. Do your shopping at Woolies in Huonville or IGA IN Devon. The cafe in Devon is excellent 

Explore walking in the Southern Cape

Southport is the most southern town in Tasmania, and therefore in Australia. And with a population of just 135 there’s not much of it. This is the town at the end of the known world...go any further south and you risk falling off the earth. I booked into the Southern Forest Accomodation for one night because it had unbelievably good reviews on TripAdvisor. But I was sceptical....I’ve been misled often in the past by over exuberant reviews on TripAdvisor of remote accomodation. But this exquisite little self contained timber cottage in the heart of the forest truly lives up to the promise. The moment I walked inside I booked for a second night. The place is totally private, very charming, extremely tastefully appointed, and has architectural merit. All of the other reviewers will tell you about the welcoming fire in winter, the home baked bread, and the marsupials that loiter around the cottage. This place is something special.

A bit of magic at the end of the world.

Perfectly clean and tidy when we checked in. 
Closest neighbour was a wallaby on the lawn at night and in the morning.
Great area to explore during the day, the little one had hours of fun at the nearby rockpools.
Visiting Hastings caves at day, dinner at the local pub/hotel and then back to roast marshmallows in the fireplace.
There was a TV, never turned it on...

Great top notch cabin

A friend and I stayed in this two-bedroomed cottage for two wet and windy August nights. Barbara was warm and very helpful - we arrived to a blazing fire and one of the cleanest places I've stayed in. Everything was tastefully done and very comfortable, and the space generous in its proportions. The kitchen had everything one needs and the breakfast provisions were generous and the home-made bread delicious. The tank water was sweet and cold.There was plenty to keep one occupied, from books, to DVDs and games. Limited WiFi was no problem at all. 

The hosts practise eco-sustainability from composting to recycling of soft plastics - not often one finds this and I really appreciated it.

Being in the middle of the forest meant lots of birdlife, pademelons and wallabies. The peace was sublime and the rain mattered not - in fact, it accentuated the cosiness and warmth of the place. The sun shone briefly and the light in the surrounding trees was beautiful. In summer, this place would be lovely, providing some shade from the sun.

If you're wanting solitude, somewhere to relax and unwind and leave behind the madness of the world, or just a lovely comfortable place to base yourself, while you explore Tassie's far south, this is it. And there is plenty to see and do in the area!

A perfect escape in beautiful forest accommodation

A two bedroom chalet 300m off the main road in Southport. Wood burning fire keeps the place cosy, big windows look out into and over the trees. All the facilities and more than basic provisions (fresh baked still warm bread), charming and helpful hosts. Totally peaceful — the pademelons won't keep you awake at night.

Peace in the bush

We stayed in this beautiful rustic self catering cottage for 3 nights.  It is very comfortable, clean, immaculate and very tastefully presented with everything you could need provided.  It is in an idyllic bush setting, private and the ideal place to sit on the deck at the end of a day walking, relax with a glass of wine and watch the animals that visit.  It is a good place to stay if visiting the Ida Bay tramway, Hastings Caves and thermal pool or visiting Cockle Creek.  Would love to visit again.
