What a lovely place ! 
Visited a few years ago when attending a wedding there, most guests in traditional Austrian style but a very lively party and everyone was super nice to the people who came from afar - really keen to make them welcome.

Going back now I see still the same excellent food, typical yet with a thoughtful and modern twist and staying in the restaurant and bar section one is immediately part of the community. Amazing.

Yes, rooms are not exactely stylish, but the entire family run concept is something different alltogether and it's completely unique in that way.  Great to take some time off, enjoy the fabulous views over these fantastic green hills and just enjoy the slow life. Take a walk, great trecks everywhere or a stroll through Steyr.. just to make space for some more glorious food.

And yes, there's still a lot of smoking going on, but this is still normal in Austria :-) Non-smoking legislation is on it's way though, will be curious to see how this will impact that lively crowd discussing life at Landgasthof Mayr then in a few years (2017 I think?)

Wonderful time out

Literally dumped in late in the evening.Wanted to stay overnight in a place far off from city traffic and noise. Landgasthof Mayr can offer you the tranquility. Mint upkeep of a Romanesque main building, slightly in the posh direction. 

Only stayed for one night but it delivered on all accounts. Great food, service drinks, and quiet. Seemed to be a place used by companies for arrangements. A bit on the high price-wise, but it was high season so that might explain it.

Short but pleasant stay

The Mayr has very good food (try The Schnitzel), but don't stay over night. The Hotel has less spirit, it is  only for locals. The room where I have been remember me at  some movies from 'Guantanamo Bay' in Cuba. I think the Mayr bought the old LEDs from Guantanamo. The LEDs have 5000K (light white). The LEDs tell me "Don't stay, pay and go home".  You can get a first feeling in the restaurant on the left hand side from main entrance- light white, 5000 K in very nice old lamps say to you " don't stay too long my 'friend'... 


Not for me

We arrived at the hotel, after driving for 6 hours.
The Hotel Restaurant,car park looked a bit empty, as we made our way to the front.
As we approached the entrance, we noticed asign on the door saying closed today!
We also been looking forward for some food and a drink...
We entered to find no sign of anybody,
I noticed a note on the reception desk with our name on it.
The message said your room number is 2.. On the first floor.
Eventually we found the room, there was a Lady cleaning it... (at 2.30 in the afternoon???) she said it would ready in 45 min.
I said to my wife I'm not staying here !!!
So we carried our luggage back to the car and left!
We did find a very nice place( Hotel Christkindl)


This was a non starter!

We booked this hotel several weeks beforehand, with personal emails to the owner.
On our arrival after several hours driving, all the doors were open but the place was empty of life. We found the reception desk, on top of which was a key with a room number and our name on it. We explored and found our room which was in the process of being made up by a chambermaid (2.30pm). She informed us that the hotel was closed for the day and our room would be ready soon.
After 7-8 hours driving we had been looking forward to a cold drink followed later by dinner!
We left, disgusted that not once during our email correspondence, had the owner considered informing us that the hotel would be closed on our arrival - very unprofessional!
We were very fortunate to find excellent alternative accommodation at the Christkindlwirt.
