Great location, clean & beautiful rooms, friendly host. Barbara, the host welcomed us and gave us some great suggestions, even though we arrived relatively late. I can only recommend Haus Mayerhofer. Will definitely be back.

Everything was perfect

We stayed at Haus nayerhofer 7 days.  We had a very good holiday there. The owner is very friendly. The room is very nice and clean. The city is very nice and charming. I hope we come back there some day.

Very nice hotel

Great place to rent holiday apartments or B&B in the centre of the village. Owner is very friendly and helpful. Lovely décor to clean apartments/rooms. There is also a breakfast room which can be booked even if you book a self catering apartment rather than B&B. Highly recommended. Pharmacy is across the road, bakery just a minutes walk away. Lots of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. It's a 10 minute stroll to the lakeside promenade. The cable car and the bus station (connections to Salzburg, Mondsee, Bad Ischl etc) are 5 minutes walk away.

Very Welcoming

We stayed for 3 nights. The apartment had all the facilities needed including a dishwasher. The location is great. The owner let us check in early which was a bonus. The only negative maybe is the fact that the floors didn't feel that clean after a day or so. Can be easily fixed by leaving a broom to use. A Good choice for St Gilgen.

Good for St Gilgen

We stayed for 3 nights here in May. We got the number 150 bus from Salzburg to St. Gilgen. The walk from the bus stop to Haus Mayerhofer is less than 10 minutes.
We chose a larger room with extra pull out bed. More for the extra space than anything else. We were glad we did. Room No 1 has a dual aspect. We could open up the windows on both sides of the room to create a draft to cool us down. There is no air con.
The room is nicely furnished. Good sized bathroom. Pillows on bed are much to big to sleep on. More for sitting up I would have thought. We mentioned this to the owner and she was able to reduce the size of them. Plenty of hot water. We threw our damp towels in the bath after day one, only to find them back again on the towel rack. If you need clean towels you have to ask at reception otherwise you keep using the same ones. We were allocated a half toilet roll on arrival.
There was flavoured herbal teas in the room but no black tea or coffee. No spoons. The tray area could have done with a clean. I dropped some coins on the floor, these rolled under the spare bed. The area beneath this bed could do with a good clean.
There is a simple easy to use room safe in the room operated by a key.
The owners are really nice people. Very laid back. Breakfast is included in the price. Basic but adequate. 
I would happily stay here again.

Very friendly house.

Last December my family and I spent the week before Christmas in this pretty Austrian  location.What a wonderful experience ! Arriving into St.Gilgen village in the nightime on the shores of the lake was like entering a fairyland,with the streets quiet and brighly lit, the house windows all  bedecked in traditional advent candles, and the Christmas market-stalls just finishing up for the evening.The snow lay  thick and fresh on the ground and carols could be heard somewhere  in the distance. Haus Mayerhofer was everything you could wish for in traditional Austrian Christmas accomadation. The Christmas incense burned in the entrance hall and wafted and drifted  all around the dwelling . Breakfast was warm and welcoming next day and,indeed,  each morning. The bean a'ti suggested taking the ferry around the lake to visit Strobl and St. Wolfgangsee ,and a great suggeston it was, as the Christmas markets in those towns are among the most outstanding you could wish to  see anywhere. In St. Wolfgangsee there is a funicular railway to take you up the mountain among the snow and the pine trees and afford you exquisite views down on  the lake as evening descends and the Austrian lights start to twinkle in the lakeside houses way below. The rest of the holiday was spent travelling by bus through the snowy roads and the thick forests in and out to Salzburg,and there visiting the markets and the sights and scenes. Another day involved taking the train and ferry to Halstatt to visit that most unique and unforgettable town ,with a stop off in Bad Ischell on the way back to St.Gilgen. 
This area of Austria celebrates Christmas in a way that warms and cheers,and lives on in the memory.

Christmas in Haus Mayerhofer, St.Gilgen, Lake Wolfgangsee,and Salzburg

We were looking forward to this place but were very disappointed. There were lots of mosquitoes and we were eaten alive. We did not have a good sleep. On top of that, the owner was having a bad mood and was behaving a bit strangely. Breakfast was not worth the extra cost per person. The breakfast room is in the basement with low ceiling and has a dingy feel. On the second day, we went elsewhere for breakfast and it was by far superior. All in all, we did not enjoy our stay here.

Very disappointed


A group of several families stayed in the apartments. The heating did not work, the hot water ran out in the middle of the shower and was not enough for all the people. The apartments were not uniformly equipped and lacked basic things like a brush for dishes and a broom. The landlady was rude and not nice and did not try to help.

 



Missing basic equipment

AVOID. There were three rule changes between the end of the cancellation window and the date of the stay, not to mention that my partner got covid. This was the response I received when I asked for a refund or a date change. I understand that it’s not easy to be a hotel during a pandemic but I’ve never encountered anywhere so rude or inflexible.

“No, you can come to us. You must be vaccinated. Our cancellation applies is to be paid.”
