Nothing fancy here.  Clean rooms.  Secure paring.  Surprisingly good Chinese restaurant.  We got across border after leaving Cancun at noon but it was getting dark.  Auto insurance agent recommended this hotel.  

Easy access after crossing from Mexico 

I'm sure that, in it's day, the Mirador Hotel was quite the place. An impressive building (for Corozal, anyway)  in a great location by the bay and in the centre of town.   Looks pretty tired now, but solid as a rock.  Friendly staff, very clean accommodations and inexpensive.  Bed was uncomfortable, but the shower worked.  I had the best room in house.... top floor with a fabulous ocean view.  Not the worst place to stay...

Some imagination required

No fancy, room super clean!  Lovely view. I did like was the open and close door, got me tired. If I wanted to come they to open the door for me and close it back. I guess to be safe! But everything was great. 

Was excellent

I paid $35/night for a room without A/C. Rooms with A/C cost $50, and that is overpriced, but you need the A/C in Corozal. Room rather cramped. Not good water pressure in shower. Sink water pressure was laughably bad. Excellent rooftop terrace affording spectacular views of the town. Close to decent restaurants such as Al's Cafe. Adjoining Chinese restaurant is no good. Nice, friendly staff, including two Belizean twin sisters who are beautiful. Not far from the bus station. Close to a Scotia Bank. Close to stores that sell drinks. A taxi to Cerros costs $40 for the trip out, back, and waiting time. The masks at Cerros are fiberglass replicas. Close to the dock for the Thunderbolt water taxi. A nice place that is Western-owned that is a ways from the center of town is the Copper Horse Inn...Canadian lady owns it and was very nice to me when I had a question. She was also grilling some delicious chicken. You'd probably be more comfortable there...

It's OK, but there are issues...

The good: Great location, just a few yards away from the pier where Thunderbolt docks. Beautiful view of the bay, great breeze to enjoy. We requested bay view. We opened our windows and enjoyed the breeze for the first few days. No A/C needed at all. The terrace has great hammocks to relax in, and of course, an amazing view and great breeze. Very close to town square, only a short walk away from bus terminal. We enjoyed the recreation areas all along the bay, along with a great place for walking/jogging in the mornings. I like how their prices stay the same, one flat rate that includes tax and all. The hotel itself was clean and decent, though not fancy. Great WiFi.

The bad: The beds were not very comfortable. If you do get a budget room with no A/C, keep in mind that you may not always get a breeze through your window and it will get warm, not to mention the mosquitoes. The last night we were there, breeze suddenly stopped and mosquitoes took over. Also, on weekends, you have cars parked on the street with very loud music. This was solved by shutting the window, but then it got hot. There is no elevator, so keep this in mind if stairs are a problem.

The ugly: Very early during our last morning there, the electricity went out in the hotel and surrounding area. We were still able to shower with some of the water that was left in the pipes, but eventually it ran out so we were left with no water. Luckily, there credit card machine was still running so  I was able to check out, pay, and leave. Also, when the windows are shut, there is a bad sewer smell that fills the room. I asked the guy if the electricity issue was common and he said they knew that it was going to happen. I would have appreciated it I had known so that maybe I could have showered the night before and paid for my stay ahead of time. I did not have enough cash to pay, only my credit card.

In short, if you need an affordable place to stay for one or two nights, it is fine. But do not make this your main hotel. We stayed 4 days/ 3 nights.

Great or Poor, depending on what you like

 I live in San Pedro and have been a PR since 2014.  I'm proud of Belize and always speak highly on how BTB has helped make it a better place to stay when visiting.  I've seen how you've made a difference in PG, Hopkins, and San Ignacio.  

 I've gone with TripAdvisor since it's the suggested site by BTB to locate hotels when visiting new cities in Belize.  My Husband and I wanted to see Corozal for a new location to live.  With San Pedro becoming overcrowded, it's time to head to the mainland and find a quieter location.  I went to TripAdvisor and since we were taking the water taxi, Mirador Hotel looked like a nice place to stay with the restaurant just downstairs.  The rooms looked well maintained and the distance from the dock to them was close.  

 Once we disembarked from the water taxi it was a short walk to Mirador Hotel, just like TripAdvisor said.  However, we passed the Chinese restaurant, and it was closed and had been for some time from all the dirt inside.  We got to the security gates at the door and Richard let us in.  The lobby was clean with a table to sit at.  The front desk Lady was sweet and because I had asked for a room where I wouldn't be doing a lot of stairs, she gave us a room on the 2nd floor.  We headed up and opened the door to what would become the first room of 3 we had to go through to find a room that was working.  

 The first room we were put into, the TV had no channels of local news so we could hear how the weather was and if there was anything happening in Belize, we should be aware of.  We were told that there was no local channels.  If you wanted to watch TV, you had to use your own passwords to your accounts because it was a "smart" TV.  I went in to take a shower.  Only to find that there was no water to the handle that was marked 'hot' water.  The toilet was a step up from the bathroom sink.  Let me go back here to explain the layout of how you get into the bathroom completely.  You walk on one level in the bedroom.  To get into the bathroom you step up to get to the sink.  To the toilet, you step up again.  To get into the shower, you have an edge and small opening to get into the shower.  Keep in mind, you must get around the toilet paper holder, that is empty, to get into the shower.  There is no way to sit on the toilet straight.  You must sit on it sideways.  

 We contacted the front desk, not by phone in the room but, my husband had to walk downstairs to get Melissa to come up and see for herself that there was no water coming from the hot water handle in the shower.  She took us to another room but had to go up another set of stairs to the 3rd floor.  I had to get dressed, gather up all of our stuff because my husband had gone with Melissa to see the next room.  Once I got up there, my husband found that the A/C didn't get cold.  Once again, he headed back downstairs, 3 flights of stairs, to have Melissa come back up and see that the A/C wasn't working.  Keep in mind, it's now around 7pm and the hotel is hot inside, we've been traveling and should be getting ready for bed.  Melissa said it takes a long time to get cool enough to sleep, to which we said, "find us another room."  She went back downstairs, got another key, along with all the controls since none were left in the rooms, and took us to another room.  This is now the 3rd room we've been in.  My husband turned on the A/C and could feel cooler air blowing.  He went into the shower and water came out of the hot water handle.  This room is the final room we chose.  All the time, Melissa was sweet, understanding, and never once was rude to us.  I took my shower which was just that, a shower.  Mold was everywhere.  The tile was broken around the drain.  The pictures attached show what the bathroom is like.  Every room was the same.  

 We got into bed.  Only to find that the mattresses were so old you could feel the springs coming through the top.  The pillows were crushed foam.  The old type of Belize use to use for hotels.  The room came with 2 bath towels only.  No face clothes, only 1 hand towel and 2 rolls of toilet paper which nether were full rolls.  Again, an empty large toilet paper holder on the wall across from the toilet blocking your way to the shower.  

 Waking up with the sun coming through curtains that were sheer and not like they are supposed to be (black out or at least solid) we got dressed while people could look in as they walked by down below.  We went out all day looking at property. When we arrived back, we found our room had not been picked up or our trash had never been emptied.  Since no paper goods can go down the toilet, the room smelled bad.  We had left the A/C running and it kept the room cool (80 degrees) 

 We had eaten our dinner on the bed the first night because the only table that was in the room was an outside cafe table with 2 stools. 

 My husband went to the restaurant Blu Bites, down the street for dinner while I took a shower to cool down.  Once back we started to sit at the little table and stools to eat.  While starting to eat, the stool broke that my husband was sitting on.  He went to the floor and fell back, hurting himself.  I couldn’t believe it.  He’s not that heavy and still this plastic stool, which is normally used for a side table, broke.  How old could this stool have been?  We both were in shock.  We cleaned up the food that was now all over the place and ate what we could from what was left.  Climbed back into the most uncomfortable beds we’d ever slept on and prayed this nightmare would go fast so we could get out of this falling down hotel.

Amazing employees.  Owner is running a disgraceful hotel.

This is one of the worst hotels I think I have ever been in. I knew the room wouldn’t have air conditioning; but I was not prepared for the horribly moldy smell. TV didn’t work, the Wi-Fi was so bad, streaming not possible and of and on all the time. 

The ONLY positive thing was nice staff.
