Stay in Sao Joao del Rei! This hostel is good!

TIP: We advice you to stay in Sao Joao del Rei instead of Tiradentes. You can visit Tiradentes on a day trip (few hours only are needed). We were there during the month of February so they had live music everywhere and Samba on the square! The atmosphere was magical and we were the only westerners. Sao Joao del Rei is a music city full of good Brazilian music and live music wether it is the carnival or not. 

The location of this hostel is perfect! Just a few secs away from the main square. Right across there is a restaurant and a cool bar just few meters away. We felt really safe as there were always people on the street of the hostel and nearby. 

We were the only guest in the hostel which was awesome (the reception closes at 10pm max). Tatatiana and Vivian were awesome, they gave us their what's app number so we could contact them at anytime. They live few houses away! They even invited us to come and join them on the square to watch the Samba and to have some beers with their family and friends! We absolutely loved it! They are so welcoming and kind! Our only regret is that we wished that we could speak Portuguese. We still managed to communicate together using the translator and our hands! 

Room:
We had the double room with the turquoise wallpaper and flowers. The first one near the main door. It was a large room, clean and charming. As we were the only guests we also managed to see some of the dorms and they looked good! Tatiana and Vivian even brought us a fan from their house which was nice of them. Our room had a large window and was airy. It also had good shutters so it was quite dark at night! They have a little cupboards in the room/doors which can be use as lockers. The hostel provides little chains and padlocks to close it or you can use your own padlock using their chains (or bring both if you prefer). 

Bathrooms:
There are 2 bathrooms shower/toilet together. Both are very spacious! One of the barroom is modern and very clean with white tiles and immaculate white walls. The hot shower worked well! The other bathroom is older but still good. 

Kitchen 
Very large kitchen with a sink, a microwave, stove, large fridge. The kitchen was clean too. 

Commun Areas. There is a undercover area with few tables in the middle of the hoste a covered area next to it. There are few tables with benches and chairs. There is also a tiny area to watch TV if you want to. We borrowed an adaptor from the commun area. It was great that they had one as we didn't had any! 

The Wifi was amazing! Maybe because we were the only guests but this was the best wifi we had in South America! 

Staff 
As we mentioned above, the staff was so nice! Very helpful and attentive! They have a good heart and want to make sure that you are having a good time at their place. 

Breakfast 
Is at a caffe 30 secs away. Coffee was tasty and the fresh cookie was yummy. We didn't like the toasty bread so the next day they gave us two cookies instead!

You can bring your own alcohol in this place unlike many place in South America. 



Great location, nice staff and clean hostel

It's never good to arrive at your accommodation and the lights are on but no one's home. The sign outside said check-in until 10pm - we arrived at 9pm to an empty building. Luckily a super friendly local called the hostel for us and the lady came shortly after.  
The room was fine in itself and it was cute how we navigated communication difficulties by the lady asking her daughter to voice record key information. 
The breakfast was good at a highly recommended cafe just down the road, but it would've been helpful if directions and the vouchers were provided without prompting.
The common areas are welcoming and great to meet new friends but If your room is on the street then be hopeful that the locals aren't chatting outside your window in the early hours - however, if you'd care to join them then it is a cool street, centrally located.
Also a fan would've been appreciated for the hot room in the night as we didn't want the window open to let the mosquitoes or noise in. 
The bad points in this review can be easily rectified, so I look forward to seeing the place up its game in future for the benefit of all concerned.
