We recently stayed at the hotel on our way through Ontario. The room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was extremely friendly. After we checked out and were on our way we realized our son had left an expensive pair of ear buds in the room. We phoned the hotel and they immediately checked and called back to say they had them at the front desk and would hold on to them for pickup on our way back through.

Excellent customer service

I read reviews here before i came so i would know what to expect.  One thing that people should be aware of is that this is a MOTEL in a small town.  If your expecting the ritz Carlton then you shouldn't even stop in this town period. 

The check in was fine, the staff were friendly.  Its hard for me to understand how people put the staff down.  My guess is that if you are rude, you can only expect the same in return. 

I went to my room which was on the top floor of the 2story side of the main building.  The room was older then expected, very outdated and not like any of the photos online.  There were indeed stains on the carpet and bedding.  The bedding was clean despite the stains, they are likely just from ware and tear. There was a smell of "old" and dust.  The cleaning could really be WAY better.  Even just a dusting of furniture and baseboards would be an asset.  I have extreme allergies so i knew i wasn't going to survive here.  I went to the front desk and explained.  The staff did not give me any problems, i was offered a better room at an additional cost. 

My second room did not have the same old smell, nor did it have carpet.  I was pleased and set up shop here.  My new room was on the single story side of the main building and it faced the water.  The view was beautiful. 

There was a nice restaurant across the road where i ate every night of my stay.  There were people enjoying the balcony's and the river (where i saw many fishing).  Luckily the other guests were respectful and there wasn't much noise at night.  There was a pop machine in the building. There was also plenty of parking.  

The wifi worked on my phone but not on my laptop.  I called the front desk and they assisted me to rectify the issue.  I had no further issues and the wifi worked well.  I was even able to watch a movie on netflix so there is streaming capabilities with their wifi. 

Overall you have to keep expectations at a reasonable level considering where you are. Also, your politeness can take you further then if you come at the owners/staff in a grouchy way.  Any issue i had were rectified. 

My suggestions to this establishment would be to capitalize on the fantastic property.   This place is on the water, it had pretty views, and the sound of the river at night.  They have sitting areas for every room in the place.  I would update the outdoor furniture, where i was had a rickety bench which wasn't comfortable.  A couple of nice chairs would make a world of difference. 

Secondly, you could update these room DIY style and your investment would pay off.  You could sand and paint the wood furniture to give it a modern look.  You could get rid of ugly lamp shades, ugly decor and replace it with more updated items.   Lastly, you could splurge on some new bed spreads, curtains and flooring. 

Above all else, you could also just do better cleaning.  There's no good excuse for dirty baseboards and dust.  Or even crumbs in the drawers.   This is an easy fix.   

TURN THIS PLACE INTO A BOUTIQUE MOTEL AND YOU WOULD RAKE IT THE CASH!

Beautiful property but rooms in need of updating

Other reviewers said this was a lovely hotel so we took a chance.  it is not lovely, the rooms smell like disinfectant.  The walls are thin so you can hear everything going on in the next room.  The beds are not good but the pillows are worse.  There is an enormous security light in the parking lot that shines right through the thin white curtains, keeping the room much too light for sleeping.  I was given an extra blanket which was stained and had a cigarette burn.  Don't stay here if you can avoid it.

Not a good choice

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.  Run down, derelict building.  A/C didn't work, window fell out of the hole when opened it, no phone, everything unplugged, suspect because of electrical issues.  Management suggested what a beautiful room, etc., when we went back to complain, he was gone and we had no way to contact him.  Good luck to anyone that wishes to stay here. 

Do Not Recommend!

Insincere owner. Beware. This guy upsold and lied. In the end, we spent $150 on a room with a king bed that had sub-standard amenities AND where the constant noise from the adjacent sewage treatment plant was amplified inside. Some may find it to be white noise, but to us, the constant droning noise kept us from sleeping. When I asked the man about the noise, he blatantly lied and said it would stop in the evening. What a shyster 😟. If you have other options, don’t go to the Old Mill.
