The Eco Lodge is the most memorable place we have stayed as a family. The setting is unbelievably beautiful, Alex was a brilliantly knowledgable host and campfire starter. We loved the hot tub and canoeing on the lake. 

Tranquil and unspoilt 

An exceptional experience all round.  From the great staff, great venue, fun horseback to enjoyment of the lodge.  Highly recommend.  Our family will return !  Thank-you Robin Alex Marina for a great experience.


Highly Recommend!

An amazing place to stay. We spent 2 nights here (2 adults, 2 teenagers). Rooms were comfortable, food was lovely. Hot tub was nice too. Alex was a great guide on our canoe trips and Robin was a very informative host. No bears or beavers spotted, however we saw 3 moose swimming across the pond early one morning. Would definitely recommend this off grid lodge as a great experience!

Fantastic off grid experience

This is one of the most fantastic places we have ever stayed. The location was amazing. Practically inside the Algonquin park, with a private lake which you share only with other guests, the beavers and the loons. Far away from civilisation, you feel you are immersed in nature (even from the hot tub). The people were great- Robin, the owner, is passionate about the park and the environment and built an incredibly sustainable retreat that produces its own energy (ask to see his hydro power station) and water. Alex was an excellent guide. We thoroughly enjoyed our canoe trip and our hike. We saw beautiful nature  in the river and during the hike we learned about unique flowers and mushrooms from the park. Marina cooked us fantastic meals. It was great when we could have seconds. This was a unique experience and we couldn’t recommend it more. This is what sustainable tourism should be. Thanks Robin, Alex and Marina. We’ll be back!

A fantastic place ! We'll be back.

This has easily been the highlight of our visit to Canada. My partner and I stayed at the Eco Lodge for three nights before a three day canoe trip. We were lucky enough to be the only guests during our visit, but can imagine advantages to sharing our experience with a bigger group too. 

The lodge is quiet and peaceful with a private lake and jetty allowing for smaller canoe and pedal-boat (pedallo for UK readers!) trips as well as some hiking trails. We restricted ourselves to lake swims and sunning ourselves during the day, reading and games (there is a good selection of board games) in the evenings while at the lodge, which was idyllic. 

Robin and Alex were perfect hosts, providing cooked breakfasts and dinners as well as simple but tasty packed lunches - they were friendly and helpful with great conversation, but also happy to leave us to enjoy the quiet and solitude. Hummingbirds visited the feeder on the deck very frequently which was a highlight for me, never having seen one other than on TV before - there was plenty of wildlife around to provide a beautifully relaxing soundtrack and occasional sightings. 

We were reluctant to leave the lodge for the canoeing trip after such a relaxing start to our Algonquin visit, but when we did we loved it. Algonquin is a stunning place and canoeing is a perfect way to see it. Robin was a great teacher and by the second day we were getting more confident in the canoe - it was the first time canoeing for both of us but Robin and Alex were both very patient and helpful. Be prepared for some good exercise, though you don't have to be an expert or athlete to enjoy the effort. 

Camping was fun and well organised - bring lots of bug spray, due to the weather we had lots of bugs! 

Seeing a bald eagle on the last night camping capped off a great experience for us both that we will never forget.

Fantastic off grid experience in idyllic location

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at the EcoLodge, completely off-the-grid so we couldn't be disturbed by work calls. The cabin, which can host about 34 people is a 25 minute easy hike from the parking lot near the main road.

Just in front of it lies the huge 30-acre lake, where the Eco-Lodge owner, Mr. Robin Bannerjee, provides canoes and pedal boats for use. When we had called in earlier to book, Robin had suggested we come in the last week of September or the first week of October to the see the peak Fall colours, and we're so glad we took his advice!  These photos do not do justice to the colors, they were so bright and vivid, and absolutely MAGICAL! 

We had a campfire the first night, and Robin showed us how to howl like wolves. The sky was super clear, so we also got to see the starry sky, which was surreal.

The next morning, having picked up the sandwich Robin had already packed for us for lunch, we headed out to trek up the the Grand View. A volunteer, Jack, had given us directions and a map of the trail. Just as we started the trek, we saw a huge moose standing right at the beginning of the trail! We were so close, though, cautious, and we marvelled at him for about an hour. Unfortunately we weren't able to do the trek that day because the moose did not move the whole day, and obviously we didn't want to instigate him. We instead did the trek to High Falls (I recommend the canoe trip to High Falls instead, you don't get a good view from the trek and it isn't well maintained).

The morning before our departure, we checked, and thankfully the moose was off the trail so we could go up to the Grand View. So so so so glad we did, it is BEAUTIFUL! We saw layers and layers of colors across hills and mountains in the distance. There aren't enough words to describe its beauty. Highly highly recommend!

The whole trip was amazing - it was nice to meet others at the cabin, and Robin, is an amazing cook (meals are included when you book). We're vegetarian, and we were unsure how the food would be for us, but it was really good, with great variety. The cabin is packed with books, games, and information to spend the evening, or even an entire day indoors!

All in all - it was a great trip, we'd love to be back to experience a different season!

Amazing place with Surreal Views and Awesome Experiences!

My partner and I had a lovely 3-night stay in the Ecolodge in early July.   We appreciated the eco vibe - no cars (walk in along trail from parking lot or come on horseback from nearby stable), hydroelectric power from waterfall - and the communal ambience (breakfast and dinner all guests together, and evening campfire time too if you want).  Swimming in Moffat Pond from the lodge dock on shore to the floating dock offshore was a refreshing delight.  We saw beaver swimming on the western edge of the lake/pond while canoeing at dawn and just before sundown.  We rode horses past Big Rock Lake, with a hike up to Gut Rapids in the park.  We also canoed through Little Mink Lake and up the slow moving York River, beaching the canoe to hike and picnic at High Falls.  (Lodge host Robin gave us excellent directions for this day trip along with the key advice to always look behind you when you make any turns in the canoe to facilitate being able to find your way back at the end of the day!  8-)  Although we did activities on our own (except for the horseback ride), we met other guests who enjoyed guided day trips with lodge host, Robin.  We were personally enriched by Robin's intimate knowledge of the ecology, history and geography of the area.  I enjoyed this vacation time with my partner very much.  If I were traveling solo, I would still feel entirely safe and comfortable staying at the Eco-lodge.

Quiet Beauty in Southern Algonquin Panhandle

Back in August 2016 my sister, cousin and I were able to take some time for ourselves for this amazing horseback excursion! It is offered in partnership between the Algonquin Eco-Lodge and South Algonquin Trails Inc. and provides a seamless package that includes delicious meals and comfortable cabin-style accommodation.

The three of us are intermediate to advanced riders and our horse guide tailored our ride to fit our level. 

I am so happy to see they are still going strong in 2021 and  highly recommend every horse rider to partake in this experience!

Horseback riding and overnight stay in Algonquin Park

If you are looking for a place to escape the city, and get right into nature this is the place. The Lodge is on beautiful pond where you can swim, canoe and there is even a paddle boat. The evening beaver watching was unforgettable. There are trails where you can hike or go horseback riding. The staff at the lodge are excellent company and nature experts which adds to the experience!

Perfect Algonquin Experience

I loved going to this lodge as a kid, and now that I am older, I appreciate it even more. It has the best of both worlds: beautiful and memorable outdoor wilderness experiences (such as snowshoeing/hiking, awesome lookouts, and a Polar Dip), plus many luxuries that make the time there relaxing and rejuvenating (such as delicious meals, a sauna, and an outdoor hot tub with a view of the lake). The owner Robin and the trail guides are always very friendly and fun to talk to. The eco-lodge is also better priced than all of the other Algonquin Park lodges I know of, and a shorter driving distance from Ottawa and Toronto. I can't recommend highly enough. We are planning to go back again this summer!
