This is not a huge, chain hotel, and one got the feeling it didn't get a lot of foreign tourists-- that said, it exceeded our expectations. Our suite actually had quite dramatic windows and views, wall to wall in the living area, and a bubbled window in the bedroom.  The bathroom was interesting, in that it was all glass (there were shades you could pull down for privacy) . The location was excellent, straight down a couple blocks from the Inter Continental.  The included buffet breakfast was great. It was the only hotel we saw that had  a water filter tap built into its sink-- fabulous! No CNN, but it did have the english language CCTV 9. Most of the staff had very limited english, but the assistant manager on duty when we checked out spoke very well and went above and beyond to help us (get to our 3 gorges boat tour).  And, the price was unbeatable. If you're looking for a clean, nice place to stay and don't mind straying from the western chain, I highly recommend this hotel.


Great value

I had booked this on the strength of some reviews that suggested it was a bargain out by the airport for those just staying overnight when transferring.  My advice would be to stay somewhere else.  The staff were helpful enough, but the room was very old, towels worn, no Wifi, bathroom fixtures overdue for replacements, carpet had lots of cigarette burns, bed was bowing and so forth.  It was not a pleasant experience so spend the extra dough if that's what it takes and stay at one of the massive hotels right at the airport.  You're not doing yourself a favour at the Xinhua.  I actually felt relieved that no breakfast was included.

Tatty and dated

Well, we stayed here at two different times.. once before the trip to Wolong and once on the trip returning from Wolong prior to flying back to Beijing.   All i can say is be sure to request a room on the back side of the hotel.. The first time we stayed we got a room on the front side of the hotel that faces the street.  Well, the air conditioning did not work in the room. It barely put out any air at all and it surely wasn't cool.  We even opened the windows in the room but it just wasn't cutting it, so, we asked to be moved. Luckily they moved us to the rear side of the hotel. That room had a.c that worked fine.  The internet connection in the room was a little slow, but suffice.. and the buffet the next morning was pretty good too.   Now, on the way back from Wolong when we stayed the second time, we got ANOTHER room on the front side with no ac.  Well, this time the next room they moved us to was another one on the front side and guess what?  NO A.C..  Needless to say I didnt sleep. .The temp in the room was 85 degrees all night long and miserable.   The language barrier was ridiculous.. You'd think because its an "International" hotel that they'd at least have someone that understood english.  NO, they didnt.  But needless to say, it served its purpose and we only had to stay miserable for that one night..
