The location was not that hard to find, apparently all the taxi drivers in the area know about the hotels in this street. There are many hotels like this one, usually with their 'reception' in the back of a store or restaurant.

Nobody at the reception spoke English, so I had to wait untill the Chinese guests who were basically in line behind me were checked in. I was taken to hotel next door by a male colleague of the woman who was at the reception, because they seem to be affiliated or at least working together to provide rooms. This one was in the back of a restaurant.

The old man who was checking me in seemed very friendly and carried my trolley to my room. The room was pretty standard, but the bathroom had hard stains all over the place.

The restaurant in the front had a poster about their food safety or something like that on the wall. I had seen those elsewhere, so I knew what it meant. It's rating system consists of a sad face smiley, neutral face or happy face. This restaurant had a sad face, but since I had few alternatives I just ate here anyways. It didn't taste bad.

The wifi did work for me unlike some other reviews I read. The password was eight times 8 at the time and I found this out by pointing at my phone's screen with wifi networks, while repeatedly saying "wifi". After a few attempts they understood and pointed at another poster on the wall with the password on it.

The only real positive thing about my stay here was the location of the hotel. It was right at the base of Hua Shan. You can either start hiking here or take the shuttle to the North Cable Car station at the parking lot right next to the entrance. (Walk through the back of the store on the corner)

The property claims to speak English and very little is spoken. One person there spoke a little English but even communication like checking in and saying I had a reservation was not understood.  The one person who spoke English was only there part of the time and the others who ran it appeared to speak no English. We picked the place based on its advertisement that they spoke English, and its location. Considering part of our planning of our hike required local information, this was a problem. 

Cleanliness-- bug splotches all over walls. Holes in sheets. Plumbing in sink drains onto floor. Chair looked dilapidated. Door to bathroom broken and taped over. Door handle to bathroom came off in your hand. Shower barely worked, and when it did it literally ran out of water - not hot water, but any water.  We couldn't get two fast showers from it. Water that did come out was largely unheated and variable temperature. 

Wifi didn't work well, at all.  Considering we could not ask the questions in English and couldn't access internet easily to research either, this is a problem. We could not get enough internet to book our next part of trip. 

Location is above a supermarket and although it says hostel the name is not the same as the hostel we booked. We were at first concerned the taxi brought us to the wrong place... but they did not.

I feel the pictures and description of this property is misleading and I genuinely wonder if the reviews on other sites have been faked.  

Location next to the mountain Huashan is great if you want to climb the mountain by hiking from the bottom (although in retrospect despite hiking often - take the cable car up  - you will enjoy the rest of the hike more, especially if you are doing all 5 peaks. So many stairs). People who run it seem nice.  AC worked well and room had a TV.
