I just spent 14 consecutive nights at the Blue Horizon. This hotel is mainly for Chinese guests with an occasional American staying no more than 2-3 nights. The hotel is located on the edge of Zibo City close to the new Zibo High Tech Development Zone.

I totally enjoyed my stay. I am a China veteran. I entered Zibo in 1990 and reluctantly left in 1994. The service was great and the managers and staff were very friendly. Very traditional Chinese service in my opinion. Fresh fruit such as apples, oranges and bananas placed in my room each day. The room was cleaned promptly each day. I used the hotel laundry to wash some of my nice business shirts and pants. No problem with the laundry service whatsoever.

The buffet restaurant is very good. I believe breakfast was included in the room price and it was very good. There was good variety with some new additions each day. The buffet becomes "all you can eat" at dinner. I ate at the dinner buffet maybe 8-9 times. It was very good but I am a light eater. Many locals (not hotel guests) come to eat at the buffet.

Do I have any criticisms? No, not one. If you want high-end accommodations like you would find in New York City or Hong Kong, stay at the Sheraton in-town. But you will pay the price. If you want charm and an authentic Chinese experience, check out the Blue Horizon.

One thing...you'll have to walk about 3/4 mile (1.2 km) to the nearest shopping center. You will find a Watsons and Starbucks there. The walk to Zibo Center is probably 2+ miles (3.25 km). Zibo Center has changed over the years and is an interesting place. You may be better taking a cab in one or both directions.

The "Real China" at its best

Exceeded my expectations. Service was good. Rooms are not to big, but there was bathtub, Internet was fast, bed comfortable. The only negative impression- brown water (rusty) out of both faucet and shower for a few seconds, then changed to normal. Breakfast buffet was alright for such location. Check in and check out quite fast. 7/10

"Surprisingly not so bad" hotel

One of the nicer hotels in the city of Zibo.   We first had dinner at one of their banquet rooms.  The food was very good, and service was good. Hotel room was nicely appointed.  Not big but OK size, and comfortable.  I’m not sure the age of the hotel but some places look dated.  My bathroom sink had a good size crack that they patched up (but still very obvious).  Breakfast was good for this place, with mostly Asian flair with small amount of western selections.  It surprised me a little that they accept American Express, which is a good thing; of course I had VISA ready.  I had limited interaction with staffer except for check in and out.   At check-out, the gentleman checking me out wasn’t very friendly.  He asked me for my room key, but I couldn’t understand him the first time, so I asked again.  He said room key with a tone that was impatient.  Then he gave me back my credit card 1-handed, and didn’t say thank you the whole time, and didn’t have a friendly face.  Well, this probably wouldn’t discourage me to stay there in the future because choices are limited in Zibo.

Good hotel at a good price in Zibo

First I will say that the ground floor bar and staff is about the only place to get good service. 
The rooms are good size and comfortable but the aircon wasn't working. It was only after prolonged complaint to assistant manager that, after saying nothing can be done that. Oh. They find a problem and it fixed now. Seems to me they just had not turned it on except in public areas. Oh. Did I mention having to request six times to speak to manager before got to speak to assistant manager. 
Do not go to the buffet for dinner. You could wait hours just to get a table. Again it was only after prolonged complaint that managed to get a table after almost one hour wait. and what a wasted effort that was. Poor quality food. Cold food. Chipped glasses. Undrinkable wine. My mistake to agree to go there but then you wouldn't get to read this. 
Meals at other restaurants were ok but overshadowed by the poor experience at 2nd floor restaraunt. 

Internet inconsistent. 
No taxis because too hard for them to organise to get them in. 
Other facilities. Well I already so frustrated that I am not going to bother to even check. 

Checking out a day early and moving to another hotel. It is said this is best hotel in town. I think it won't be hard to beat. 

Surprisingly well equipped hotel but so bad in too many ways

The first impression of this hotel is good. The entrance hall is impressive with eye catching decor. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and, at first sight, look of a high standard but then you look at the detail. Plug sockets poorly fitted, carpets already showing signs of wear - this in a hotel only 6 years old. A toilet with an insecure seat which did not flush properly. 
I had booked an Executive Suite, intending to take advantage of the Executive Lounge. No such luck. It was closed. I was not informed of this at the time of booking or even when checking in. I was still charged the full rate even though the facilities advertised were not provided.
I tried the bar. The staff did their best but they were ill trained and it took them 10 minutes to provide me with a gin and tonic. 
The morning brought perhaps the biggest shock. I turned on the hot tap but nothing came out - only what sounded like a plaintive wail of lost droplets of water. Nothing in the shower, no hot water anywhere. I reported it to reception - they didn't apologise, They said they would send an engineer. He never turned up. 
I went to breakfast. Yes, I have to agree the selection of foods available was extensive and appealed to an International Clientele. However, in order to eat those foods, you generally need forks and knives - not the spoons and chopsticks provided at the tables. 
At the check out I again reported the problem of the hot water. No reaction whatsoever. No apology, no offer to discount the bill. Nothing. So I set off feeling disappointed and unwashed!
The Blue Horizon advertises itself as an International Hotel. In order to claim that it needs to meet International Standards on Service and Maintenance. At the moment, they are far from that.
