The room is confortable and clean. The location is perfect, there is a grocery close (3 min walk distance) and the hotel is located in the middle of the historic area of the city. There is a shared refrigerator in the third floor that you can put your food and you can use the kitchen from the other El Viajero to cook your meal (we used only for the breakfast).

Nice

The hotel is located in a very central part of town and for me, that is everything! Stayed in Room 201 which had a balcony overlooking the street. Has good air conditioning whihc you WILL NEED so that's a plus. There is no BOILING hot water but the temperature is do-able and with the heat, trust me, you'll be looking to take cold showers anyway. If you don't like noise at night, ask for one of the back rooms (personally, was so tired didn't bother me much)

My only complaint would be that the sheets are really thin so I would suggest bringing an extra blanket if you like being cozy at night.  Shoutout to Nestor and Edwin who were absolute sweethearts and very helpful for tips about the city and anything we needed. We arrived before the check-in time and we were able to store our luggage and go out to explore!

Overall, quaint hotel with good location and good staff! :D

Great Experience!

It’s near the historic buildings as well as modern tourist conveniences (on top of La Pepita—which resembles a Hard Rock Café—and about two doors from a KFC!). Starting with a walking tour was a wonderful way to get oriented. (Streets change names, and they have both traditional names as well as numbered designations.)

There’s no elevator, and you need to climb some steps to reach the rooms. However, the staff were eager to help with luggage. In contrast to a typical USA situation, the staff did not linger, waiting for tips; I had to make an effort to tip them.

My room (201) had a wonderful view of the street—and suffered from street noise even at 4 a.m. This is a lively area! Also, the room was not screened. So I depended on the city’s fumigators to protect me from insect-borne diseases. The bathroom was roomy with adequate shelves. The closet bar was high and had only one hanger. Air conditioning worked well, and ceiling lights were bright. Internet speed varied, but cell phone reception was good.

The lobby area had a computer as well as a complicated coffee machine (but I was not impressed with the taste of the coffee even though this was Colombia). There was no deadbolt lock nor a lockbox for valuables. 

Staff were very friendly, but got a bit overwhelmed when our 17-person group checked in.

Earlier in the month I had stayed at its sister property, El Viajero. The general vibe I got was the same: great location, austere but clean room, wonderful staff.

Great tourist experience, room was austere

This hotel is perfect if like us you do not plan on spending a lot of time inside.
Rooms are clean. There are common areas to relax.
we had a room on the 3rd floor, street side. it gets a little noisy at night so I suggest you choose another room. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our bathroom was kept clean with a big shower!
My only con about the rooms is that there were some pieces of furniture missing so we could be 100% comfortable. I did not have a night stand next to my bed, so I was always putting things on my bed or on the floor.
Other than that it is a place I recommend. it is well worth the price!

P.S: there is no elevator!

Perfect location

Overall, I would recommend this hotel. The location was perfect, with all major attractions within easy walking distance. Lots of excellent dining and drinking nearby. The location felt safe. Also, you cannot beat the value...the price was very reasonable. Everything was clean and cleaning staff went out of their way to help if you needed something. The air conditioner was blessedly functional; kept our room very pleasant. Additionally, they have chairs on their (little) balcony overlooking the street. It was very nice to enjoy a drink while watching the foot traffic below. There is a grocery store just up the road and an excellent bakery within the block. 

The hotel was no-frills and it can be noisy. The walls were thin and I could easily hear our neighbors. Noise from the street was very audible. Additionally, the bar next door played music VERY loudly; thankfully, the music stopped at a relatively early hour in the evening. Ear plugs would have been helpful. I gather this is common for the area, but there was no hot water. Desk staff was generally helpful and spoke pretty good English. The gentleman manning the desk at night was much less helpful than the day staff. 

Overall, I would recommend this hotel given its location, value and cleanliness.

Great location, basic hotel

This hotel is great if you're going to be in and out for tourist attractions, bars, restaurants. It does the job because its pretty basic. The beds are fairly comfortable, the place is always clean. Not much to expect except your basic needs being met. The people at the counter are very nice and help with your way around the Old City, as this hotel is located in the old city. Try getting a room that isn't to the front, but better to the back to better avoid the noise at night.

Does the Job!

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend.
PROS:
- Great location in the middle of the city - we never walked more than 15mins to most attractions, and there are some great eateries within a block’s walk (try Alma, La Esquina del Pandebono, and Gelateria Paradiso!)
- Rooms have air conditioning
- Reception is open 24/7 (I think) and can speak a bit of English, plus you can buy drinks from reception.

CONS:
- Rooms are very plain, our room had no window which means you don’t get fresh air
- Showers have no hot water (not that you really need it in Cartagena weather)
- Hotel walls are paper thin, we could hear people in the room next door, every guest who came in late, and the music from the pub next door.
- The electricity went out across the hotel for our entire last day which meant we had to get ready and pack in complete darkness (due to lack of window).
- No breakfast included.

Overall, this hotel is fine if your priority is a good location and you don’t plan to spend much time in your room, and don’t mind some noise at night.

Excellent location, average hotel

We got to the hotel with high hopes, got given a street facing balcony which was great for photos. Initially we though the location was great, many great restaurants near by, central location clean rooms. But it was completely different once night came, drunk people on the streets, prostitution at the door of the hotel (wasn’t actually too bad if you’re not uncomfortable with it) but the very worst of it was the noise. 

Taxis would constantly drive down the street where the hotel is located and proceeded to hold down their horns continuously. This went on without stopping from 10pm till about 2:30am. Finally at about 3am we managed to get some sleep. As the balcony doors are rustic and therefore not sealed, they provide zero sound insolation, and the noise from the taxis was as loud as it would have been if we were standing on the sidewalk.

Next morning i showed the staff the video of the taxi and they were non-apologetic and visibly  not very surprised or fussed about what I had shown them. As I they didn’t provide any solutions I asked to be moved, they said they would try but it was unlikely. 

Fortunately, they managed to find a room at the back of the hotel furthest from the front street. Unfortunately, the room had no windows for airflow or ventilation and had a strong damp smell.  Also unfortunately, we got to hear the sounds from the taxis again, this time from the back street, granted at 50% of the volume of the front balcony room but 70% as annoying.

We traveled with another group who got a room in between the front and back streets, they said that the noise wasn’t as bad. If you’re going to stay here and intend on getting reasonable sleep id ensure that you are not staying in the front balcony rooms nor in the back rooms.

Loud, obnoxious taxi drivers and zero sound proofing ruined the stay. Not hospitable unless you get an internal room.

Outdated and broken furniture, partially functioning a/c, threadbare towels, no toiletries and wordt of all stained bedlinen. First room they put me in was basically a cupboard with NO WINDOWS. (Apparently most of the rooms are windowless). Got a change of room with a window but the communal area was right outside (who thought of this stupid idea?) resulting in unacceptable noise levels from a group of non-white American guests late in to the night. When I told the Americans that it was 1am and I was trying to sleep I received a torrent of homophobic, anti British and racial (anti-white, yes it's racism) abuse. Complained to the receptionist about the other guests but she was very unhelpfull and basically ignored me. Moving to another hotel and chalking this up to experience.

Dirty, outdated and noisy

The hotel is a nightmare. Stay away from it. 1) The hotel is super loud, can't sleep at night 2) Front desk is rude and charge you money for everything  3) They don't give you more towels 4) The area is centrally located but no good ameneties.
