The owner, Karen, is the sweetest host! She really treated us like family and gave us great local advice. A lot of hotels in this area only recommend tours where they get a big commission but Karen gave us lots of local advice to fit our budget and wishes, and booked everything for us. Great breakfast and nice rooms for the value. They also have red-eyed tree frogs on the property!! 🐸

Great value and incredible host!

Amazing Views - Very close to valcano, can see it from the room as well. Hotel has Wifi, they mentioned signal is strong closer to the reception, but we didn't have any problem accessing from our room.  My son was watching so many birds in the morning.
We stayed here for 4 days and it was the best decision we made in this vacation.
Location - Place is about 10-15 mins from the La fortuna downtown.  You can take a UBER easily to the downtown.
Breakfast - Karen (Host) makes a wonderful breakfast for $5, we get to taste the traditional costa rican food.
Host - Host is really important when you stay in a different country for vacation, Karen and her son Emanuel are amazing and was super helpful.  Emanuel even took us in his car and dropped at various locations during our stay.
Overall we had a memorable stay, thank  you Karen and Emanuel.

Amazing View & Awesome People

Cabinas los Guayabos is an awesome place if you are staying in La Fortuna. It's close to everything (National Park Arenal Volcano, hot springs, hanging bridges), but it is also very peaceful. Karen is a great host, she recommended some great daily activities and tours and made us delicious and nutricious breakfast every morning. The cabins are very clean and Karen provides fresh towels every day. All in all, it was a perfect stay for us.

Perfect stay

In March 2018 we booked economy accommodations for our family of four and we were very pleased with the fact that it is conveniently located between La Fortuna and the Aranul National Park.  We spent three nights here and enjoyed the peaceful countryside and the very hospitable host, who also cooked us very hearty breakfasts for less than $8 each.  The rooms, while basic, met our every need and were clean and refreshed by the cheerful help.  Definitely would recommend for a family on a budget.

Basic lodgings with Costa Rican hospitality

We drove from Playas del Coco to spend 1 night in La Fortuna area with no reservations.  We saw the sign for this lovely little place and pulled in.  They luckily had 1 room left, we took it.  This is a small little boutique resort with only a few cabinas for rent.  All have amazing views of Arenal Volcano.  Each cabina has its own bathroom and outdoor patio.  The property is situated at the base of Arenal Volcano 10k outside of the city center and beside a farmers field that the owner said we could go and explore.  Lots of photo opportunities and walking trails to explore.  Clean and friendly.  Even said we could have wood fired pizza delivered form local restaurant.  We would stay here again and again.

$65USD of amazing views

We saw this hotel listing and we're in the area so decided to stop by before committing. We arrived around 11, and were more than happy with what we saw. The owner was super friendly and let us check in early. Like other users said, it's a bit out of town, but if you have a car, then it's not in the least inconvenient. The cabins were simple but cute, well maintained and had extra little touches like fresh flowers that let you know the business is a labor of love for this family. The view of the volcano is amazing...I've stayed quite a few places in La Fortuna, but the view from the private back porch here was my favorite as it was just so quiet and peaceful! Perfect for what I was looking for...a place to relax, get fresh air, let go of all worries and read. I'll definitely be back! 

Relaxing and Great View! 

The reason for the poor rating is that we had no idea how inconvenient this place would be if you don't have a car (I did do some research before booking!). There aren't really any restaurants in walking distance (we did hack the 3 mile walk to some hot springs - definitely would not recommend walking at night - there isn't much of a shoulder on the road), so each cab ride was $12-15. Likewise for getting to Arenal National Park. We stayed here to save money, but ended up spending about $100 on taxis over 2.5 days. There is a bus, but it only runs a few times a day and the window around the times it picks up/drops off were too wide for it to be useful. Unlike everywhere else we have stayed, breakfast was extra ($6) - you can get a great breakfast in La Fortuna for that price. We knew the Wi-Fi would be available only in reception from reviews we read before booking,but it somehow seemed extra inconvenient when we were there, as did the fact that there was no shampoo in the room (just soap). To top it off, we were over charged - we booked for $150 for two nights but then were charged about $170 in colones (we didn't have US$ in cash). If you have car this is a cute but basic option - the second night we were there we had a takeout pizza and beer on our 'back porch'. It's quiet and has great views. If I had it to do again, I would stay much closer to La Fortuna for around the same price though.
