Stayed 3 nights in Feb and Eve was extremely welcoming. Despite the freezing weather, it was easy to get to the town centre where there  is a great choice of places to eat. Would like to come back in spring!

Friendly atmosphere and great location

Stayed one night in September 2016.
Nice and welcoming hostess Eve speaks English, there was no problem communicating with each other.
Charming villa in a green and cozy setting. The garden is well-kept, with lots of flowers. Eve really does a great job taking care of her flowers. The room is spacious and gorgeously furnished, with a fire place. The bed is absolutely incredible! There is a kettle in the room, tea, coffee and water are provided. The beautifully decorated bathroom is comfortable and the toilet lid is amazing.
French breakfast is excellent and plentiful.
There is no parking lot, we parked our car on the side of the street, near the house, free of charge.
Climb to the city centre is rather steep and takes about 20 minutes. 
It’s directly stated on the web that check-in is after 6 PM, but if you notify Eve of your early arrival in advance, she will let you in. 
Angouleme is a very beautiful city, so plan to spend half of a day there. 
We had a perfect and memorable stay at Villa Gael. Highly recommended!

Perfect stay

My friend and I stayed last year in June and I should have done this a while ago.  The owners are just the nicest and most helpful people.  It was like staying with family you really love to visit. The setting is just lovely and about 20 minute walk well stroll really to the city centre.  You can amble along the river and there is a restaurant on the river not far.
The real experience though is having breakfast and chatting to the beautiful woman and her adorable son who own it.  I left my ipad there after getting a lift to the station
and she raced back to find us.  We chose the villa because my friend and I were both called Gail.  It was a wonderful omen.  I hope I get to go back.

This is a beautiful home with lovely rooms that are all furnished just a bit quirky.  Delightful host and good French breakfast. Also dog friendly.  All in all a lovely stay. My comments relate to the surrounding area which is a residential area below the city walls. Firstly it can be tricky to park as it is on street parking but I am given to understand it is not usually a problem. Next is food.   For an evening meal, at least on a Monday, nowhere nearby is open and so it was a half hour walk back up the hill in the dark to find anywhere open.  Again most were closed on a Monday evening.  So if you are visiting on a Monday be aware.

Quirky stay

The Villa Gaël is located in a quiet neighbourhood at the banks of the river Charente. The owners are a couple who loves travelling and is very helpful giving advice on the city of Angoulême. We had a beautiful decorated room with a separate bathroom. They have also quite a big garden where you can just sit and relax in the sunshine. Breakfast is served on a huge table and is tasty. The old part of the city is about 15 to 20 minutes away on foot, but it is quite a steep walk.
Very recommendable: a quiet location, a beautiful place, comfortable bed, friendly hosts, good breakfast and not far away from the city centre.

Beautiful place

Spacious attic room but with low beams, so could be a hazard for tall people, like us.  The shower and toilet facilities were very restricted.   The location area was rundown and was a hilly walk into town and the restaurants, which took about 20 mins.  The breakfast was included in the price and adequate.  The owner was a lovely lady but unfortunately could not speak English and we struggled with communication.
