Very charming, friendly, welcoming and rustic, our room was simply stunning and you could imagine it being like that all them years ago, the attention to details is brilliant. Whilst the room and hotel itself is rustic, it is also authentic. Breakfast was a lavish continental affair with literally everything being homemade, what we also loved is that it’s one big table in a stunning room that everyone sits around so you get to converse with some of the other residents. We also met a very interesting woman from Paris. We would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Bourges

Rustic and charming

We stayed in this magnificently restored grand house on our journey down to Mallorca. We initially chose the hotel as they were willing to accommodate our two small dogs in the self catering accommodation off the courtyard. We were not disappointed. It was like going back in time. Our apartment was huge with a well equipped sitting room/small kitchen . The rooms had massive wooden beams throughout, also on the floor so be careful.All toasty warm in freezing December. We were late to arrive but staff waited up for us and were delightful and welcoming. We were also given some locally made chocolate which I have to say is about the most delicious chocolate I’ve ever tasted. Although we were just passing through, it was a wonderful stay made incredible by our cathedral visit and the wonderful magical (non-commercial) Christmas market. Do visit this charming historical accommodation and it’s charming staff. We will be back.

Dog friendly and wonderfully accommodating stop off

The entry gate dates from 1418 and the living quarters were rebuilt in the 18th century. Recently renovated, the decor is very authentic along with the present comforts of indoor plumbing, electric lights, wifi, and heating (we were there in November.) The continental breakfast was superb with freshly homemade cakes and jams prepared and served with pride in addition to the customary baguettes and croissants. The kitchen was open throughout the day should one want to re-visit the cakes, or opt for the healthier option of fresh fruit. November was cold and drizzly, but I enjoyed walking through medieval cobblestoned streets that were empty of tourists. It was even more dreamy when I was the only human being in the vast cathedral (the second largest in France after Paris' Notre Dame) and in the spectacular Jacques Coeur museum. It was delightful to return at the end of the day to my historic yet warm and cozy room at L'Hotel de Panette.

The closest reality to time travel

The welcome is warm and friendly. The rooms are like living in an antique shop with modern plumming ans bathroom. The airco is silent and the city is wonderfull. Breakfast is sweet and complete. The whole family felt welcome and at ease. Recommend this place!

Heerlijke plek!

First, this is not a hotel in the conventional sense, and more than the Hotel de Ville is a hotel. This is a historic building that has been sensitively restored and turned into a B&B. So don't expect hotel facilities. Check in is at 4 p.m. and no earlier. But this is a spectacular house, former residence of Don Carlos of Spain, and staying here is a real experience. Greatly recommended!

About the parking - the hotel carpark is the old courtyard, only entered by a narrow gateway off a narrow one-way street. The hotel will email you a video showing the manoeuvre (rather like a three-point turn) needed to get in. For a less frightening prospect there is cheap on-street parking just round the corner.

A must

Step back in time as you enter through the ancient wooden gates and find yourself in a magical city centre environment,  with a view from the courtyard of majestic Bourges cathedral towering above the chateau’s walls. This is a very, very special place. We were allocated a wonderful studio apartment in a beautiful courtyard building with a direct view of the cathedral. Everything was perfect - fabulous, comfortable bed with high quality linen, delightful little kitchen area, and a very large shower room with excellent towels.  We didn’t want to leave! Add to that the fact that Bourges is a magnificent city, steeped in history, with stunning buildings and features everywhere, and cobbled footpaths and roads... we’ll be back for a longer stay next time.

Magical

I note mixed reports of this wonderful place and can understand that it wouldn’t suit everyone. Their reception hours are somewhat at odds with their published rates and the toiletries are nothing special. But that would be to miss the whole point of the place. My massive room was an utterly stunning period piece, mercifully warm on a freezing cold night and with an excellent modern bathroom. Breakfast is family style at one table generously laid with excellent breads and pastries. The charming staff offered all sorts of options for those wanting a full meal. I left having thoroughly enjoyed what seemed like a privileged stay in a very special family house, rather than an hotel. I should add that I had one of the “historic” rooms. I may not have felt quite so privileged if I had had the room that appears in a photograph on TripAdvisor, which looks to be as different to my room as a Travel Lodge is to the Ritz.

Very special but idiosyncratic 

We called (do call them) to book our room kind of last minute and arrived late. What an amazing surprise ! Our room was gorgeous and large, for a very decent price, even more so if compared to a classic hotel. The place is very quiet and really beautiful. Highly recommended!

Lovely 15th Century place. Highly recommended

Lovely room, decorated with taste. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Shower was good. 
Access to hotel is down narrow street & entry could be challenging for larger cars. However, staff appeared from nowhere and were quick to help guide into onsite car park (Ltd spaces but very secure). Access to our room (Arnoul Belin) was up some narrow stairs.

What a deception! We hoped to spend two days in a quality residence and in fact we found ourselves in a flea market of furniture assembled by pure chance. Trying to be "old", everything looks dusty and old. The corridors are not lit at night and require guidance with a mobile . The shower cubicles are dated. Everything is pretentious! A real trap for tourists. No help to carry suitcases on the stairs. The price of the rooms is debited at arrival contrary to the usages in the good hotels. Parking is very difficult to access and costs 15 euros per day while parking around costs about 5 euros per day! To give a single positive note, the breakfast is ok but served on a common table which does not necessarily suit everyone. And finally, the small sweets made available in the room are charged without any information. What a shame !
