After spending 3 nights at La Chambre d'Hugo, Lyon (see separate review) we moved on to the country residence of our hosts, Christine & Christophe Branche, Hugo a la Campagne in Champagny-sous-Uxelles - a quintessential French farmhouse behind a big stone wall in a small hamlet.....a great location for exploring Beaune, Dijon & environs. We had a beautifully decorated bedroom overlooking the fields, a well-fitted bathroom and the use of the adjoining billiard room, where we had a sitting area & plenty of space for our large amount of luggage.This made it easy for us to pack for our trip home from here to Australia after 4 weeks on the road.
The breakfast table was marvellous! A different dinner setting and table linen every day...plus juice, tea, coffee, cereals, breads, toast, jams, fruit, nuts, yoghurt, homemade cakes, cheeses, ham, baguettes, pastries .....the list was endless & changed daily.
There were two excellent restaurants in the nearby village of Chapaize...Cafe Saint Martin & La Table de Chapaize..well worth a visit.
A lovely gesture was our hosts inviting us for drinks & savouries by their lovely fire....just what we needed after a cold, wet day exploring Dijon.
When we left for a late night flight home, Christophe prepared a detailed itinerary for us to fill in the day en route to Lyon.
A memorable stay with charming hosts!

What a find!

One of the best B&B's we have visited the last 4-5 years. If you are looking for a place to slow down a couple of days, this is your place to be.
Great beds in a perfect restored B&B. The bed room & bad room are realy great!  The host and hostess realy raised the bar for other B&B's to come.
Most hotels & B&B's have a guest map with some folders. These owners made a guest map you can realy work with. Looking for a restaurant? no problem, you can even choose based on the price range you want to spent.

oh and abouth spending... the service and quality you are getting here, really is exceeding the price.

If it was a good experience? nope, it was great! here you can unwind and you will forget that the wifi isn;t perfect, so what, forget the email and internet a few days and enjoy this place as we did!

a great B&B!

We were blown away by the warm welcome, friendliness, generosity and beautifully presented accommodation provided at the Hugo a la Campagne; and I haven't mentioned the outstanding quality of the breakfasts. On this occasion we stayed for two nights but would happily go back for a week or two.

We often find that photographs gloss over the presentation of destinations making them look slightly better than they are in reality. This house was better! The accommodation is one end of the country home making it private and seemingly self contained. The entrance into the B & B is through the games room with a full size pool table for guests to use; with some comfortable chairs and tea and coffee making facilities. The bedroom is just off this room and is large and beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard with everything we needed for our stay. Connection to the internet was easy to access from both rooms. The en-suite was of a very high standard with a shower above the bath. We were shown a private area of garden for guests to relax in overlooking open countryside with chairs and a table and deck chairs.

Breakfast at Hugo a la Campagne is a special treat. Christine is obviously a great cook with a taste for high quality ingredients and delicious food. We enjoyed a selection of granola, yoghurt, fresh fruit, homemade deserts, croissants, brioche, homemade preserves, local cheeses and ham.

Christine and Christophe are gentle and kind people and have taken great care to provide extensive information about local walks and cycle routes for their guests, providing copies of marked recommended routes along with the usual tourist information leaflets. Christophe has also compiled a file of local restaurants which they recommend and excellent wines from the area to enjoy at any given price. Their english is good and they make you feel comfortable about asking their advice. The bicycles they have for loan looked in good condition and well maintained.

The house is on the outskirts of a small village in open countryside. The nearby village of Chapaize is a short distance away and has two restaurants. We tried both of them out and had very good meals at fair prices. We explored the area on a motorbike and found it to be one of the most beautiful we had seen in France with hills and mountains, small vineyards and quaint villages.

We would recommend this B & B to anyone who enjoys quality, tranquility and a love of the countryside.

Wow-is this the best B & B in France?

Charming and delightful . That says it all ,and applies to the accommodation, the lovely hosts , breakfasts and ambiance.
Information on walks from the gite was very helpful as was advice on local wines.

After driving down a small country road, we came upon the tiny village where Christine and Christophe's beautiful farmhouse is located. Once inside the secure walled garden we were immediately enchanted by the big, stone farmhouse, lovingly restored both inside and out. Our fond memories of staying with Christine and Christophe in their Lyon B&B came flooding back as we explored our new surroundings. And of course we looked forward to the exquisite breakfasts we would be enjoying for 7 days. We were not disappointed!
Everyday we were kindly advised of interesting sites to visits, markets and wines to tempt our senses and country roads and villages to explore. So if you love the peace and tranquillity of country living and all that Burgundy has to offer, we highly recommend you stay here.
