A real get away from it all retreat with a taste of traditional french rural life and hospitality.  A very large watermill oozing with character.  You will share the home of your hosts Jean-Michel and Valentina and whilst the rooms are large, comfortable and quiet there are no frills such as TV, WiFi, fridge or kettle in the room - so relaxing.  We found a mobile phone signal just across the river and WiFi is available in the enormous but cosy living room.  Just ask and a hot or cold drink will be served.  We reserved dinner for our first night which consisted of aperitifs at 7.30pm followed by a delightful meal cooked and served by our hosts who joined us at the table with any other guests.  Three languages that night and no one was allowed to feel 'left out'.  The food was all freshly cooked, 4 courses dish of the day and coffee.  The very best home cooking beautifully presented.  We planned to eat out the second night but changed our minds.  Just we two and our hosts this time and as good as ever.  Breakfast was great and on day two the warm croissants with caramel sauce were indulgent!  The Mill proved an excellent base to be met by Franck from Vititours who I urge you to check out if you have an interest in Chablis wine.  We could not have been made to feel more welcome and hope to return in the future.

Escape to the country.

We arrived with another couple, just prior to a large electrical storm. Checked in all ok. This is a small boutique accomodation, wonderful setting in this very old watermill.Rooms etc just as displayed on their web page, very comfortable.
Now the hosts, they are the nicest people you will meet travelling around France. We were invited to join them for dinner with their visiting friends, what an experience.
Local produce , served with local wines, what a way to start our holiday, so generous ,we thank them so much.
We had a lovely breakfast next morning before departing for our next location.
We are so sorry that we only had the one night, would recommend staying longer to enjoy their company, location and the sights.

What a surprise!!

B/B is located in a small village in a former mill house which, in spite of renovation, still has its old charm.  Rooms are very large and spacious  and so are bathrooms. Our room was on a ground level and bathroom had both shower stall and bathtub. Numerous windows in our room were facing village road; and at first I was worried that it would be noisy. However, for two days we were staying there probably only one or two cars passed by. Quiet, quiet...  
 
Le Moulin de Poilly  is very close to Chablis, not far from several Burgundian beautiful villages and most interesting chateau in France including Ancy Franc, Bussy Rabutin and Tanlay.  
 
Jean-Michel and  Valentina, owners of Le Moulin de Poilly, are incredibly friendly and hospitable people. Breakfast is fantastic - with fresh and delicious croissant, bread, cheese, ham and jam. They also make absolutely delicious coffee. 
In the evening they serve dinners for the guests. We stayed for two nights and were lucky too enjoy two dinners which usually started with wine near a huge fire place when all guests are introduced to each other; then the dinner party moves to a large table and the table talk continues. The food was home French cooking - very fresh, simple and absolutely delicious with soul-warming soup  and freshly baked dessert. Menu was totally different on each night. I particularly liked  pork in Chablis sauce and a quince cake with that day harvested fruits. People behind the table were from all corners of Europe - France, Germany, Austria and Belgium. We had  feeling that in spite of all European troubles the European Union was perfectly working at Le Moulin de Poilly.

Great hosts, nice dinners, large rooms

Set in the picturesque Poilly-sur-Surein, this B&B was a fantastic country escape.

The hosts are very friendly and welcoming and even suggested a few places for us to visit in the area (check out the winery of Bailly St Pierre and La Soufflet restaurant in Irancy).

They also offer a Table d'Hote on certain nigths. We were served an excellent 4 course meal with wine from the, area seated a table with the hosts and other guests staying over- a lovely way to meet new people.

The accommodation is a little rustic, but is very comfortable and definitely has more character than staying in a hotel! All in all we found all the facilities that we needed and the central location of this B&B in the Chablis area makes it easy to visit the surrounding towns of Auxerre, Chablis and Tonnerre as well as some smaller towns which are also well worth a stop.

Breakfast was excellent with baguettes, croissants, cheese, yoghurt, cold meats, orange juice and a choice of hot beverage all playing their part as the usual suspects of a continental breakfast.

The rooms do not have TV, which would not normally bother us, but the hosts were kind enough to let us watch the rugby world cup game that was being played on the day we checked in, in their own living room and even offered us some grape juice from the Chablis harvest that was underway at the time.

If you are looking for 5 start clinical luxury, then this is not the place for you. If, however, you are looking for an authentic French countryside experience with fantastic hosts and comfortable lodgings then I would highly recommend a stay at the Moulin de Poilly-sur-Surein!

Beautiful Setting and Great Hosts!

Well where to start, firstly this is the only bad review I have felt the need to write but this place is dreadful. We did our research and read reviews on Bookings.com and looked at the photos and thought it looked great for a low end budget, we literally needed a one night stay travelling through this area.
The photos of the outside are correct but once you get inside it's another story. It was dark and dingy and through the gloom looked unkept and to be honest pretty dirty. We were shown to our room which was a massive disappointment, there was no lock on the door, the bedding didn't look or feel clean and there were stains on the side of the mattress, I didn't dare look any further, 3 pillow cases on the pillows to hide god knows what. There was no way we would have slept in the bed.The bathroom was grim, peeling paint from the plastic pipes, free hair in the plugs holes, towels that were like sand paper and it didn't make you feel like jumping in the shower for a freshen up! No TV or radio, no water, not nothing but free holes in the ceiling which gave me the creeps. In fact the hole place gave us the creeps. Booking.com said we had the last room, we beg to differ and there didn't appear to be any other guests.Even though it was getting late we decided we would rather sleep in the car then stay here. We did appreciate it was a mill but the mill ran right under our window and it was loud. My husband went to find the owner to let him know we weren't going to stay, in darkness as there were no lights anywhere. He could not find the owner but a man did respond to his calling 'hello' by opening a door downstairs and staring at him and then shutting the door in his face! We did make another attempt to find the owner but to no avail so we left. I contacted Bookings.com the very next day, there is no signal here, and they were not helpful at all and we were still charged full price. I would not recommend staying here unless you like creepy and dirty.
