To appreciate Hotel du Rempart you need to put it into context. It is a family run 2 star hotel in an ancient building in a historic town in France. It is clean and a warm welcome awaits visitors. We had a nicely modernised room on the second floor with a good bathroom and superb view over the surrounding vineyards. The reception area had been decorated in French style and the communal areas as well. These can seem a bit dark at first site and were showing signs of being well used, shabby chic it really is. There is a lively bar which is open late and popular with the locals, what better recommendation could you have? That does mean that it can be a bit noisy when it closes, if that bothers you ask for a room away from the bar but you won't get the view! The breakfast is adequate and if something is missing just ask. We did have a couple of problems on our first morning but a quick chat with the staff soon had it fixed. Being a family run hotel you get personal service but the don't have the resources of a big chain to fund maintenance and modernisation. The food at lunch and dinner is excellent and the atmosphere relaxed, this isn't a fast food place, as I said it is French. Take your time, relax and enjoy good wine and food.

A ver French hotel

Although the food was good, I had to wait what seemed an eternity for its delivery and the waitress seemed to have no personality. Also the ambience and service could have been much better. The lighting was quite dingy with the seating arranged mostly in rows - reminiscent of a canteen.

Good food

We were walking back to our hotel when we came across the terrace bar for this hotel, which is effectively on the pavement opposite. Service was really good and the views across the vineyards was also excellent.
We ordered a very nice half bottle of Sancerre and walked away very happy

Great place to pop in for a drink

It's an old hotel, the kind you find a bit everywere in France.
The rooms are clean, the beds are good, the sheets are clean.
The hotel is the city historical center, with free car parking .
Restaurants, bars and wine bars are all at just a few minutes by foot. 

There is free wifi in the bedrooms.
Personel is kind and friendly.

Old but good sleeping comfort

We sat here after buying some wine in the local village. A beautiful, albeit small village. 

We wanted a light bite with a glass of wine and chose this hotel as they had tables outside, which had stunning views overlooking the vineyards of the area. A vast amount. 

That is where the positivity stops. The service was diabolical, I know the French can be sometimes difficult but this was on a different level, both me and my husband can speak French but the last that served us was down right rude. The kitchen has stopped service apart from tired looking sandwiches, she brought over the wine we had ordered without saying a word and no eye contact. 

We drank and left, such a shame as the position of the hotel and restaurant is wonderful, which I could have said the same about the service. Capitalising on the area rather than hospitality. 

The view gives it the 2 stars

We were very disappointed with this hotel overall. Superb location with fabulous views over vineyards but the interior was poor. The reception wasn't welcoming with the manager seeming to be over casual and not asking to see our Covid passports. We found our own way to our room along a dingy stairwell with worn, stained carpets. The room was small and badly decorated with dark coloured plastic wallpaper (which looked like mock wood); horrible flowered curtains and hideous bile-green net curtains. It hadn't been thoroughly cleaned and there was a lump of used chewing gum on one of the bedside tables. The beds and bedding were OK. The the worst thing was the noise and disturbance during the night. We went to bed around 10pm, tired after an early start and an afternoon of cycling but were woken up around midnight with noise from the adjoining night club. This noise was the constant 'boom boom' noise of music plus a lot of shouting from the terrace outside our bedroom window. The noise continued until 4 am with the club shutting at 3 but people shouting outside and some returning to the hotel, clomping up the stairs and slamming doors. We eventually got back to sleep for a few hours until it was time to get up and prepare for a long bike ride. A good breakfast was appreciated but it didn't make up for a terrible night and lack of sleep.

Hotel well below acceptable standard

Shame that a nice place such as Sancerre has places like this. Food was awful to be honest. Service ok. Toilets were disgusting, and the whole inside smelt stale and in need of a good clean. Best t thing was the view from the terrace
