A nice little 2 bedroom gite by the river in Dinan, walked out at night no problems lots of restaurants to choose from, The gite was comfortable, great bed, telly with some English channels, a little outside space, caught tourist "little train" up to centre (very steep climb), Dinan is a lovely place to visit, have been before and will go again.

We enjoyed staying here far more than a hotel, which was the obvious alternative.  The convenience of self catering and only a 2 minute walk from the port, it was all really enjoyable. The place offers everything we needed and the owners very friendly/ helpful.  We only needed a place for two nights to join in a family gathering. Most gites need a one week booking so this was ideal.  Highly recommended!

Wonderful place to stay in historic Dinan

My husband and I spent a wonderful stay in this remodeled gîte overlooking the Harbor in the pretty city of Dinan.
Comfortable, well furnished, 2 bath, lovely private garden, very nice and helpful management.

A delightful "gîte" over Dinan Harbour

I am very surprised reading the reaction of Mark K. and I have a completely different experience. My wife, two adult sons and I spent two weeks at La Tannerie in July. We selected La Tannerie by internet due to the very nice reviews about Dinant and the pictures of it on the internet. We arrived on July 14 not after 16:00h as stated in the brochure but a lot earlier (no expected traffic jams around Paris and Le Havre). Mrs Kwant, the owner of La Tannerie  welcomed us warmly and helped us to unpack our car and offered us as a token of good hospitality a light refreshment. Because we rented a gites for two weeks we also had the only gites with a dish washer. Really everything was nice and clean. The floors vacuumed, the kitchen including dishes, knifes, spoons, cups and wine glasses very very clean, the refrigerator cleaned, nice beds with beautiful  linen (indeed not ironed), the bathroom completely cleaned and lavender smelling, plenty of towels (for which you according to the info on internet have to pay in advance) and of course a bath mat. So no complaint about the gites what so ever.  Every day Mrs Kwant asked us politely if everything was as expected and served us with advice about sightseeing, presence of swimming pools, the quality of the restaurants in Dinant and so on. Especially she offered us to use her stainless steel BBQ when we asked where we could purchase one. Due to my profession (Dr Pharmaceutical Engineer) I travel a lot around the world as Mark K.  does but I have seen a lot worse than La Tannerie even for a tremendous amount of more money. Coming to a conclusion; La Tannerie is a very nice and well cared placed to be. Do not expect a “five star” accommodation but it is very nice and reasonably priced.

wonderfull holiday in Dinant - Lanvallay

We selected La Tannerie because of the wonderful reviews it had received. We now know differently and should have noted the fact that there were only 13 reviews. Fortunately we were there only for two days because we would have never lasted for any longer. This was more like we were been secretly filmed for a TV show entitled "Im a Human Being Get Me Out of Here!". To begin with we went into the bedrooms to notice that whilst the linen had been washed(we hope!) , it had not been ironed so all the beds looked as if they had been slept in. One of the pillows had no pillow case and when I asked for one I was given a creased one that didnt fit together with an apology for the fact that the colour didnt match( as if that was the biggest problem in all this nightmare) There were no towels and not even a bath mat to stand on when you came out of the shower or the bath, presuming, of course that you were brave enough to have one! As we moved the shower curtain bits of black human hair came out to greet us as was the case when you attempted to turn the knob to close the bath plug -there in clear view was a colourful selection of slimy hair surrounding the knob. In desperation we went to he kitchen to make a cup of tea where we discovered at least 3 cups with old tea marks still in them (I dont mean stains I mean tea that hadn't been washed and rinsed properly). On opening the fridge we noticed that it had been wiped down but not enough to remove the overwhelming stench of the previous occupant's garlic and spice meat. There were no dishcloths to wash the dishes or to dry them even though I must admit there was a dishwasher but we were too nervous to cook in case we got ill. I have previously worked for an international magazine and have travelled to many places and stayed in various accomodation (even in primitive African countries) and I can honestly say I have never ever been to a place where the linen hadn't been ironed and I have been too nervous to put my feet on the floor. My skin still crawls at the thought of having to sleep in those beds and I am in the process of using   a good anti septic cream to remove the numerous bed bugs from myself and my children.The furnishings were so minimalistic that I am still wondering if perhaps we were being housed in the garden in the storage room. 
Every morning the owner would greet us with a  guarded smile which makes me think that perhaps we were part of an experiment to see how people react when they pay good money to live in slum like conditions. We found ourselves sitting at the ferry port 4 hours before our departure time as it was cleaner and more comfortable to sit in our car. Honestly it should not be allowed to charge people their hard earned money and to provide accomadation and service like this.
