This hotel restaurant is in the center of Madiran upposite the church. It is very elegant and beuatiful decor. Has a nice terrace at both side of the building. One facing the church and one with garden view. The food was excellent. We had the Menu de Marche served with some good wine from the area. Madiran wine is somehow a secret to many people, but very good quality. We can really recommend this place and will come back.

Greatest lunch in Mariran

superb menu and food, early days for this refurbished establishment and a few teething troubles but nothing that cant be overcome. The restaurant is calm and welcoming, as are the staff. will be back.

brilliant food

The decor and ambience of the restaurant is excellent. The restaurant sits in the main square of the church in charming town of Madiran, right next to the Maison de Vins.
The menu is inventive and the presentation of the food is superb. The taste and flavour of the dishes I chose were outstanding and a real surprise.

I had read in some  reports that the portion sizes of the food was small and I guess they were by the norm for most French country restaurants where the French people generally look for generous size meals.  Nonetheless, the quality, presentation and flavours of the food we had could not be faulted. I left the restaurant content and delighted with what I had eaten.

The wine list contained a good choice of local and regional wines at fair prices.

I had read that the service at the restaurant was questionable but I found the waiters attentive and friendly. Yes there were a couple of trainees on duty but they were friendly, and attentive tomyour needs. 

Overall and lovely lunch and dining experience with marvellous food and superb presentation.

Excellent food & Presentation

It is a year today since Le Prieure opened its doors and the first lunch I have to say was excellent.  Since then it has gone from chaotic to totally indifferent.  In a year the turnover of staff is amazing, most of the staff very charming but were not shown any leadership on how a good restaurant should be run.  We have now visited this restaurant five times in total, it would have been more if the standard had improved.  Our second visit last June, my daughter was actually served sheeps brains instead of lamb that she had ordered to be told the lamb had run out!  This week it was my birthday so off we went for lunch to a very bland looking table and decided on the 51 euro menu.  We were given a minute appetizer which was completely lacking seasoning, two teaspoons full and it had gone..  When my fish arrived it could not have weighed anymore than 100 grams, only warm served on a cold plate with cold beetroot puree spread on the plate and a very hard roasted turnip.  I think it was a turnip.  Our waiter was attentive but that was all.  Mr Proprietor how disappointed us locals are that you cannot get this restaurant together, I think your turnover of staff speaks volumes, hardly anyone in the restaurant and no one apparently in charge of the place.  I for one, will not bother to go to Le Prieure again. 

How to have a disappointing Birthday

Party of 4, on a Friday night, 1 vegetarian.
Welcomed with a lovely gazpacho and confit tomatoes, that's where the lovely ends!
Choice of 2 options for entree, main and dessert for the omnivores, no choice for the vegetarian, despite being assured "we offer a vegetarian menu," when booking.
Entrees - 2 foie gras, 1 prawn.
Foie gras itself lovely but you can't go wrong with that, the accompaniments left a lot to be desired, quince jam, sweet but tasteless, mushrooms no taste.
Prawns, absolutely no taste whatsoever.
Vegetarian, salad, no effort at all.
Mains, 2 beef and 1 sea bass.
Beef, almost carpaccio but not quite, seared well, but nothing of any taste with it.
Sea Bass, completely overcooked, like the bottom of a Wellington boot, rehydrated girolles mushrooms, not rehydrated at all.
Vegetarian, mound of bulgur wheat with 2 slices of aubergine and 2 slices of capsicum, (pepper), no thought at all.
Dessert, 2 red fruit meringue, 2 apricot tart.
Red fruit meringue was peach and nectarine! Tart, bought from a shop possibly.
Completely overpriced, 60€ approx per head, not including wine. In this region of France you can go out for a 4 course meal including wine for 15€ per head, that's what they should be charging here. This is not a fine dining establishment.
On the upside, the wait staff were very good.
