not knowing what to expect we discovered a little treasure without too much of eye-catching excitement - on first sight. each room had a different color, decorated with an individual theme and the wallpaper was in cloth according and fitting to the courtains. much detail wwithout being too much.
as it is a very old house and it is located basically directly at the sea one coulld feel aand smell (only a bit!) the humidity of the ages and sea but after opening the windows for a short time everything was just perfect!
we originally planned to stay only one night in order to continue our trip through the normandy we extended it for anothr three nights! the location, the atmosphere and the very friendly staff (hey alex, once again thanks for everything!!) of the hotel made the decision to stay longer just easy!!
one day we'll be back for sure!!

little treasure

This is a basic French hotel but, for what it is, it is good, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and an acceptable breakfast. Just what we wanted! Do not expect luxury or for a great ambience but do expect value for money and a central location,

Good of its kind

In centre of town this hotel is very french, wall covering in same material as curtains, old and very basic but reasonably priced for an overnight stop. Able to park outside as not a lot of people about probably end of season.
Saint Valery is worth a visit, we had been before but didn't go into the town then.  There is a monument overlooking the bay which is well worth all the steps you have to climb.

Basic french

Outside looked horrible, went to get the key down the street, returned and entered. The staircases still smelled of fresh paint, and looked ok at first glance. Our room on the third floor smelled musty, and only had a small roof window overlooking a seagull nest.
We got to know the seagull and his family and friends pretty well over the course of the night.
We noticed the bed was covered in hair. Short black curly hair. Not ours. Looking under the covers more hair, dirty footprints and brown smudges. 
Off to the closet holding the shower toilet and sink. Mold everywhere, dirty shower curtain that always wants to hug your butt. 

After an abyssal night, off to breakfast.
8 Euro for a selection of croissants, stale bread and prepackaged foods. We struggled to find a clean cup, had to make due with the least dirty one. 

Overall very lazy, dirty moldy experience. At least wash your cups. This place should not be allowed to operate.

Avoid at all cost

Having eventually found the "nearby" hotel where checkin is done for this "hotel" we were given our keys and sent on our way.  Upon entry from the street we were greeted with a strong musty smell indicating the place had not been aired for a very long time.  The staircase wallpaper was redolent of the 3rd Republic - I'm sure Napoleon would have recognised it!

Our room was situated on the second floor at the rear of the hotel - with a fetching view over a parking lot...  The room STANK of tobacco smoke in spite of being labelled non-smoking.  How can the cleaning staff have made no attempt to clear the smell?  We opened the windows and fled the place to allow the air to clear.

When we returned some hours later it was possible to enter the room without gagging.  Being tired we began to prepare for bed and immediately noticed what appeared to be a wardrobe at the end of the room (which was only just big enough for a double bed) with louvre doors.  Wrong!  This was the ensuite facility - almost certainly the tiniest room ever to have a shower, WC and handbasin crammed into it.  And no privacy from the room itself thanks to the louvre doors. Ugh!

Having had a good laugh (mainly at our misfortune to be here in the first place) we crashed for the night thinking that was the end of our surprises.  Again, wrong!  Breakfast was served in a room more suited to the waiting room of a funeral parlour - a bored young lady served our petit dejeuner with the enthusiasm of a 3 toed sloth.  And petit it most certainly was.  One small piece of bread, one small croissant, one small pack of butter, one pot of apple compote (I've had better baby food) some preserves and either coffee or tes served in a vast bowl.  And for that feast they charged us €8 each!  And I thought you could only get mugged on the streets.

If you are considering a stay at this hotel our advice is DON'T BOTHER!  A park bench would be more attractive and you'd not feel ripped off into the bargain.  We just can't not believe that such awful establishments remain in France in these enlightened times.
