This was our long delayed visit back to Arromanche, we decided that we definitely wanted to stay in the town so that we could enjoy the restaurants without driving anywhere. I booked a non sea view room and to be honest as we approached the holiday began to regret a little and I was a little concerned that our room maybe a little small. Needless to say our fears were unfounded and we had a marvellous room on the 3rd floor with a three window view that did include the mulberry on the beach (room 20) it was bright and airy and large, bed was really comfortable with decent pillows !! (We always bring one of our own anyway). I don’t need to wax lyrical about what to do around the area, you all know the history !! In particular I want to mention the team in the hotel and restaurant, Matt and his fellow team/colleagues were beyond friendly, the service was first class, the food was excellent and we want to just say thank you for making it a very special week especially for providing such amazing weather !! 

The fruit de mer was as good as the first one we had with you 25 years ago !

A fantastic week in Arromanche

We enjoyed a top class seafood platter at the Hotel de Normandie and at a very reasonable price (considering the size of the portions) and with excellent service to match. It was a highlight of our 3 week trip round France. Dont be put off by the mixed reviews (which we assume are for the hotel). 

The restaurant and service were excellent. Living in Brussels, we regularly eat good seafood. But rarely as fresh and at such good value as this. Highly recommended! 

Superb seafood platter 

I spent a few days in Arromanches in early July 2019 with the purpose of seeing the famous D-Day landing sites, and the other iconic locations in the surrounding area. My room was a double room at the end of the corridor on the first floor. A beautiful sea view, and far away from the wooden staircase which creaks quite loudly - I found that to add to the charm of the hotel, actually. I stayed for 3 nights, and didn't bother to eat anywhere other than the hotel restaurant, which serves up traditional French cuisine at a very reasonable price, such as beautifully soft waffles throughout the day, as well as moules, steak and fish soup in the evening, and perfectly good carafes of wine (although at 16 I'm happy with any alcohol that I can drink in public scot-free, one of the beauties of France). The room provided a view of the Mulberry Harbour, and was less than 100 metres of the D-Day museum. The staff were very friendly and appreciated the occasional pseudo-French conversation (I did learn something in French GCSE, amazingly). All together this hotel and restaurant made up a big part of why I enjoyed my time in Arromanches so much, and I'd highly recommend it. My one word of advice - get a room with a sea view!

Quaint, charming and positively French.

Liked  · Let's be realistic, this hotel is an old lady, it survived the war, its a typical french 2 star hotel with a creeky staircase and full of history and character and it delivers the basic needs.  Its worn in places, but its clean, the rooms are comfortable and have been modernised.  It faces the waterfront with views over the mulbery harbour and the new D-Day musuem is right underneath the Hotel.  Free parking on site, round the back.

Disliked  · The Food has been criticised in past reviews and generally I'd agree with them.  This sort of Hotel, especially at low seaon, is not going to attract a Michelin chef.  But, there's little alternative in Arromanche low season.  The Fish & Chips for example came from a processed packet, the moules-a-la-creme was a moule mariniere with a cream added on top, and the deserts are processed and displayed in a glass fronted fridge by reception. Breakfast is a petit dejeuner, so don't expect ceriels, or anything cooked.

Its a 2 Star hotel, which serves it purpose. We will come back! 

Had a perfectly acceptable lunch here mid week. Busy spot, but we where quickly accommodated by the helpful member of staff in the covered, outside area. A good balance of fresh, but not too hot. 

Super fresh oysters to start, followed by grilled sardines. Simple and tasty.

Our coach trip stopped in arramanche so that we could have a look around and get a meal. We chose this restaurant which was an brilliant choice. Whilst not cheap the food was excellent and the service good.

Restaurant visit.

Nice place average room on the first floor - sea view which was good. Noisy at night mainly from an ancient staircase that guests used. Basic amenities. Breakfast which we paid 10 Euros for was not worth it. Staff we came into contact with did not speak English. Parking at the hotel was limited but free as opposed to next door that was 2 Euros per day. Expensive spirits - we were charged 7 Euros for 2 calvados.

Nice hotel

This hotel is situated right on the square where all the DDay ceremonies have taken place. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor up a large winding staircase. (There is no lift). At 73 I found this hard work. The rooms were well appointed with en suite facilities.
The beer was very good in a pleasant annex under an awning. The food was poor.
We ate there on 4 evenings because the alternative restaurants in the town were not much better and all about the same price which was a little high.
The service was good and friendly. The room prices were reasonable. Car parking is a problem there is no free parking during the day, but is free between 7pm and 9am. There is a total of 4 disabled parking spaces.

Great victorian atmosphere

Hotel was clean enough but some carpets were quite worn. Room no. 7 was dingy with dust under radiator and cobweb in top corner. It had 2 windows; one looked out on to everyone else's window and the other onto a staff stairway and service door whi h meant you heard all the kitchen activity from really  early on in the morning.  Plenty of tea and coffee.  3 single beds though for a married couple when we had asked for a double room? Hotel was busy but no leaflets or info in room, had to ask at reception for everything.  Location was good to transport links. Restaurant staff were great except the 'maitre de' who was quite keen on telling you off if you sat in the wrong place.

Disappointed

Well what can  say....... we have visited this restaurant several times over the past few years over the D-Day week and have always found them to be rather abrupt but this year they have excelled themselves!!  Rude does not even cover it!! Unbelievable, we have never met such rude and ill mannered waiting staff in our lives, my partner runs a 75 room hotel and a large restaurant which produces over 150 breakfasts every day and the standard of service at this restaurant is appalling!!  Please do your selves a favour and avoid this place like the plague.
