If you need a peacefull stay in nice village in Bayern go to Durach to Gaestehaus Sonja. Rooms are perfectly arranged, nice welcome, good breakfast.
Good food in their restaurant in the village. Large quantity of meat in the meal and good local bier.

Nice place to stay in Bayern

We had a contact with this hotel in advance and we made a booking through e-mail and we should be at this hotel at 12th of June 2016. 
But on the 7th of June we had motorcycle accident and my wife broke her leg and went to surgery. I have informed owner of the hotel Bellini and she replied with great regret and best hopes for her recovery.
Owner Pija is a great example how humanity approach should be.
Thank you Pija and I promise to you we will be your guests in the future.

This is one of the best places we’ve stayed in terms of how good it is and the price we paid (at one point my wife and I thought we must have misunderstood the price, but it was very favourable). We spent 5 nights here in June 2015 and loved it. The owner, Peter Rauch, was extremely accommodating and helpful, not just with the room but also in terms of his knowledge of the area and local restaurants. This is important because guesthouses in Bavaria are usually just rooms and are not hotels that include a restaurant (although at Sonja there is a large breakfast room and a range of stuff to eat at breakfast, and Mr. Rauch owns a restaurant 2 minutes walk away in the centre of town). Guesthouse Sonja has rooms that are supposedly for just two adults but we were given a studio with an absolutely massive bathroom and an extra single bed, allowing us to sleep with our son on the extra bed and our young daughter in the main bed with us. Due to the large size of the room and all the facilities we were quite comfortable (although I can imagine that with two older children two rooms would be necessary). The bathroom included a shower and a very large bath.  The room itself was large and had a shared balcony with our side sufficient for a sun-lounger, a chair and a small table. The view of the town, the countryside and the distant mountains was much better than the photo of the tree currently visible on this website (which looks down into the street rather than the magnificent countryside). A very relaxing place, and with a useful, central location: head 45 minutes south for the Bavarian Kings Castles, or head an hour north for Legoland Germany or Ulm city centre and cathedral, neighbouring Kempton (15 minutes) has a fantastic waterpark (Cambomare). Would definitely stay here again. P.S. free Wi-Fi included.

Good location, excellent value, friendly, spacious

We stayed for 2 nights, & booked a deluxe room, & were glad we did, for we had an absolutely superb large room, with balcony overlooking the Alps.
Durach is a fairly small,  quiet community with a supermarket, a few shops & restaurants, but with buses & trains within walking distance of the Gastehaus.
Peter is a wonderful English speaking host, provides a lovely buffet breakfast with the best boiled eggs of our holiday.
An honesty bar with chilled local wines & beers to drink on the balcony made for a perfect early evening.
We could not fault it in any way.

A superb find

We were looking for a place to stay close to Oberstdorf because of the Vierschanzentournee we were going to visit in December. Even in July it was hard to find something reasonable, so we happened to find Gästehaus Sonja, which is located in little village Durach, about 40 kilometers from Oberstdorf. 

And we are very glad we did. First of all, we got a very warm welcome from the host, Peter, although we arrived a few hours before the normal check-in time. Not a problem, of course we could store our luggage in our room (which was already cleaned and ready). When we returned, Peter was still there (waiting for some guests for a late check in), offering us a schnapps which we all enjoyed discussing the ski jump game we saw. We went to our room, which was very spatious, with good beds, and a great view of the Alps from our window and our balcony. Together with the large flat screen, the free and fast wifi, the ability to make coffee/tea in the room we were very happy with what we got for what we paid.

The next morning we had a great breakfast, served by the host, and we spend a fun day in Kempten, a nice little (old) city very close to Durach, with remarkably good shopping and sights.  

Normally, when driving to Tirol in the summer, we pass Durach. Because of the great stay we had at Gästehaus Sonja, we will certainly consider to spend a few days there before we continue our trip. And so can you, you won't be disappointed.

Feel welcome in Sonja's guest house

My elderly parents in South Africa were booking accommodation online.  They wanted a one night stay in De Rust, South Africa.  Internet search engines bought up Sonja’s in Rust, Germany, and to cut a longish story shortish, they booked accommodation for ONE night, by mistake, including payment of a deposit.  This establishment has refused to refund the deposit, despite the explanation of the error, and the unlikely travel from South Africa for one night in Germany - and the fact that the current exchange rate is approximately 17 South African Rand for 1 Euro.
