Karala House is the perfect home away from home. We prolonged our stay. The view into the jungle is amazing. The rooms have a big balcony and are spacious and clean. The family who run the place are very warm hearted. They where always helpful with information and if asked organisation (trips, things to do, best places to shop, etc.) For only a little price you can get very delicious home cocked breakfast. If I come back to Kumily I hope I can stay here again

Best home away from home

Great view, ideal location neighbouring the tiger reserve, friendly and helpful owner family made our stay in Kerala house very pleasant. Bonnet macaques, wild pigs, indian bisons and several fascinating bird species were to be seen and heard on daily basis. Rooms and balconies are spacious and clean. We prolonged our stay to whole week!

Balcony as an obseration tower

We went back to Kerala House Homestay for the 2nd time.  We were very impressed with the cleaners, hospitality and the great view of Kerala House Homestay. From the balcony of our room, we saw a lot of wild animals.  

Also, the host booked some tour packages for us, with great rates!! He also recommended us some nice local shops and restaurants. 

The location is superb too, Periyar Tiger Reserve is only 5 minutes walk away, Kumily town centre is only about 10 minutes walk.

Cosy, beautiful, friendly place.

This place borders the Periyar tiger reserve. So the location advantage is that you have a great view from your room balcony and if you are lucky you could see wildlife right from here. We stayed here for a night and can say this is a place that is economical ( considering the location) with basic clean and neat rooms. The rooms are spacious and you have a balcony to yourself. The owner Mr Shibu and his family who are there in this homestay is very helpful and will make your stay memorable. The other advantage is that it is near to the forest entrance gate, there are restaurants that you could walk to for your meals. Don't think twice for booking here.

Convenient and relaxing location right beside the nature reserve where you could see many animals. The hosts are such kind and lovely people who were so helpful and responsive to any requests. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and sizeable. Highly recommended.

A lovely place to stay when in Thekkady

Really good value, great location, friendly people. Clean, secure, good WiFi. Literally overlooking the national park, we saw wild pigs and the monkeys scamper about the buildings nearby. No food included but plenty of options nearby.

Clean, good accommodation, excellent location

I only stated 1 day in Thekkady but I wish it had been longer.kerala house is clean,friendly and has amazing views with breakfast on my balcony overlooking meadows with a herd of domestic buffolos grazing

A fantastic stay

Excellent …Excellent and spacious rooms, neat and clean toilets with hot water, fresh linen … really, I am pretty much impressed with this 3 STAR facilities in Kerala  house at such a bottom end price, really worthy. The room has a balcony facing to the wild, you could spot wild life if you are lucky (I was!!!.. We could spot some wild buffaloes and bison at night). The proud owner is at your service all the time, he also arranged SATRAM jeep safari, which was excellent. The driver, Mr Binsad (mob. 9447524072) , a thorough gentleman, honest and sincere and a good guide too, he took us to SATRAM after that to the Tamilnadu grape orchards and vegetable farms as well. Overall a pleasant stay made possible by The Kerala House.. kudos

3 STAR FACILITIES AT A NOMINAL RATE

Our deluxe room at this Homestay was large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. But the real highlight was the great view across part of the Periyar Nature reserve and mountains beyond from the adjoining balcony. Although meals are not normally provided, there are numerous places to eat nearby. However, we did not venture further to eat during our two-night stay than Hotel Thekkady Cafe across the street from Kerala House (we have reviewed this separately).
The owner of Kerala house Shibu and his wife are lovely people, warm, friendly and very helpful. 
Located about 10 minutes easy walking from the centre of the busy, popular (with tourists) town of Kumily, Kerala House is perfectly located and we recommend it to future travellers without hesitation.

A room with a view

One of the best home stays in Thekkady. Very close to the parking area and ticket counter. Spot less room with clean toilet. 24 hours hot water. Friendly and helpful owner. The only negative thing is no car parking. Parking on the road side. The view from the balcony is awesome spotted some wild bison early morning.
