What a pleasant stay for 3 days on top of the mountains and tea estates, a cool to Sholayar Dam and famous spots around. We completely enjoyed the nature, fresh air, spring water from the rock, colorful birds singing & sucking honey, flowers & fragrances, fruit trees, spices, coffee, etc., Trekking experience at the steep backyard, more than everything, freshly made food served with love & care.

I ❤️ PETRA!

I coming back to Petra after a gap of 9 years , was one of the very first to stay here and let me tell u "it feels like coming back home" always. U can search for any homestay across valparai but u won't find a better one than Petra. The rooms are spacious and airy. Very close to sholayar dam. The food is amazing as it gives u a feel of a home cooked meal. You need to plan and inform the team there and they will go to any extent to prepare it. People must remeber this is a home stay and not a full functional hotel. I love the roof top dinner set up which gives u a good view. The homestay can accommodate a max of 3-4 cars. The hotel is located away from the buzz of the town of Valparai so enjoy nature and it's calm in full glory. Will I stay here again ? Yes without a doubt.

Excellent  service. The  Food  provided  was tasty and  served very cleanly and the room was also  clean .  Their Hospitality was really  heartwarming. Thank you  Petra and   team for making   our stay comfortable and Happy. Personally thanks to

Family Trip

I really enjoyed two days from the pollution, sounds, and nature beauty, well cleaned room and very friendly staffs, manager cares a lot and chef Mr Rajendran makes yummy tasty food . Great stay and sure we will come once again.

Pleasant stay with rich hospitality and feel live in a forest .

This beautiful property is located a few meters away from the Sholayar dam and makes a wonderful holiday home for families and individuals who love and appreciate nature. The roads are well maintained and we enjoyed the beautiful green drive occasionally spotting animals and birds. At Petra we loved nature and the authentic beauty of Valparai forests during our stay. Their gardens are home to a variety of splendid butterflies, colourful little birds and unique beetles. We were lucky to have friendly visitors like peacocks, wild moose, monkeys and a large number of the rare Cicadas. The whole ambience was orchestrated to life with continuous melodies of the birds, beetles and cicadas and there was never a dull moment during our stay here. My kids had the most wonderful time and were excited about all the new things they got to see and experience outdoors. The hotel provides clean, spacious and well maintained rooms. The food was homely and delicious. Snacking on hot bajjis and sipping aromatic tea on cool rainy evenings was the highlight of our trip! We found time to detox and just relax, the natural white noise of water gushing down the rocks and flowing in little creeks around our room helped us sleep with ease. Every morning we were woken up by the cheerful chirping little birdies on near our windows. The staff are very courteous and friendly, they are always willing to help and took great care of us throughout our visit. 
Petra family guest house is an excellent choice if you want to spend time with your family in a peaceful, safe and clean environment. You are sure to leave feeling rejuvenated from here.

An experience absolutely worth the climb!

The place is located near sholayar dam, far away from the bustling Valparai. The property is very nice and cozy. The food prepared by Mr. Rajendran was very tasty.. Mr. Balaji was very kind enough to provide us with whatever we asked and the property manager Mr. Josaiah made our stay safe and happy. One can enjoy the early morning bird chirping here. Nature lovers will love this place

Best stay

We stayed 4 nights in the Petra Family Guest House at Valparai. It was truly memorable.  Here are some highlights of our stay.. 

It’s a beautiful family guest house nestling among a thick plantation of coffee and pepper. Gives you a feel of being one-with-nature at its best and waking up to some melodious and full-throated tunes by a variety of beautiful singing birds…The unique thing about Petra that you have plenty of thick plantation space to walk around (mini trails)… Don't miss a walk to the huge Rock at the back-end of the property and marvel at the unique water spring that comes out of the rock.

The Sholayar Dam is just 5 minute walk (600 metres) away  with stunning scenery. There’s a huge park coming up which is sure to become a major children attraction very soon. 

The Aliyar Falls is STUNNING and NOT to be missed - is just a 2.5 hour drive from Petra. You are sure to spot plenty of wild-life on your drive – like we spotted a herd of elephants. 

The rooms at Petra are cozy and big and can house large  families. The rooms are clean and come with all standard facilities. There’s a  24x7 cook-house and Rajendran the cook delighted us with some tasty dishes… He shared some recipes as well.. The staff is very friendly and responsive.

PETRA .. A Memorable Stay of Peace and Tranquility. 

The resort is located in a peaceful place away from any kind of noise. The property is beautiful and maintained well. The manager,staffs and the owner of the resort are very helpful and warm. Reasonably priced. Very neat and clean. Loved it overall. Highly recommended.

Must stay beautiful property!

Petra Family Guest House is an excellent place to stay in Valparai. It is very close to Sholaiyar dam.Nicely located, well maintained and well kept place. Mr.Josaiah,Manager of the homestay is very sweet. He called us the previous day, noted down requirements, food choice etc. The cook Sri Rajendran, and other support staff Balaji were awesome. Sri Rajendran 's food preparation is yummy. On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would strongly recommend this place for our friends and known people.
