Recently, I decided to take a trip to Westport, County Mayo, as it is one of my favourite places in Ireland to visit. I especially enjoy visiting the gorgeous Westport House and Gardens.
I had just finished renting out a house to a group of students, which I did out of the goodness of my heart and definitely not to make my pockets bigger. However, these ungrateful students had the gumption to ask for their deposits back after they’d moved out. When I inspected the property, I was horrified at the state of the place. There were wrinkles on the tablecloth! The floorboards had specks of dust on them! There were tiny chips of paint on the walls, about the size of two-euro coins! Can you imagine? Oh, and here’s the worst part… the frying pans were burnt! How dare they use the utensils supplied to them?
Anyway, after that horrendous ordeal, I felt that a relaxing holiday was needed. After all, I had just made 1200 euro a month, in cold hard cash, from these students and didn’t pay a cent in tax on it; what else was I going to spend all that money on?
After scouring the internet to find some nice B&B’s and hotels to spend my hard-earned income on, I came across Cilcoman Lodge, only a 4-minute drive from Westport House.
I have to say, I was very impressed with the service! The beds were very soft and comfortable. I slept like a baby on them, knowing that as a landlord I can do whatever I want with my tenants’ money and wouldn’t face any repercussions. The location was ideal, being only a few minutes' driving distance from the town centre, and it was only a stone's throw from the harbour.
The Wi-Fi connection was always efficient and allowed me to scour the internet for ways I can get more money off poor students whose parents’ bank accounts are already sucked dry from paying huge tuition fees.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious! Is it just me, or does a Full Irish taste even better after you’ve just made 10 grand off a group of students who just need beds to sleep on?
Overall, I greatly enjoyed my stay at Cilcoman Lodge and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice break away from the stresses of daily life and from people moaning about the housing crisis (whatever that is).

Would recommend for cowboys!

First class accommodation (both bedroom and common areas). Fine Irish breakfast. Friendly and welcoming hosts. Quiet location close to Westport amenities ... we comfortably walked into town for dinner.

Welcome Stay @ End of Long Day

We were very lucky to land here after a VERY long day of riding our motorcycle in the rain. The owner took us in immediately (we arrived very late) and she had us take off all of our riding gear so she could get it dry for us by the next morning. She also gave us recommendation for incredible food just down the road (SheeBeen). The room was small and lovely. The water was hot and had hard water pressure which was nice. We stayed here two nights. The breakfasts were delicious, especially the potato things! <3 There were some donkeys in the field next door and one of the nights they were a little rowdy, lol, but we didn’t hear them at all the next night and either way it would not deter us from staying again. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

lovely... and convenient

Stayed here for 2 nights recently, a lively spot only a stone throw from harbour with many restaurants and shops to explore. Hosts very welcoming, rooms comfortable, only complaint was bathroom very small, toilet very close to shower.
Breakfasts very nice and plentiful.
Pub only a 5 min walk away, great food.

Lovely Confortable Stay

The house is right at the edge, easy access to downtown Westport. The owners have worked hard to accommodate guests by helping with restaurants and shopping. The breakfast is standard Irish made to order, and the breakfast room felt like it could handle the volume of guests.
