If you seek and savor classic Irish hospitality and in the misdst of one of the country's most charming small towns, you simply will not do better than pausing for a few nights in Clonakilty's O'Donavan's Hotel. Tommy and Dena are seventh generation owners and they simply grond the place in the grandest legacies of hospitality and ease that West Cork can offer, which is saying something. Large comfy rooms, quirky nooks, great breakfast, splendid old bar with a far that never stops, good food all day -- and so reasonable. What more can you ask for?


A West Cork Classic

I made this account just to post this review. This hotel is fantastic!! The loveliest staff who couldn't do enough to make you feel welcomed. On arrival we met the lovely Dena who made us feel like old friends. She was very friendly, funny, and made us feel like we were coming home to our own family.
All the staff were like that in the hotel. 

What made this place especially good was that it seems to be packed with locals who just pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. The lobby was always busy with people chatting to each other, and the staff. 

We travelled with our dog (Cooper) and he was almost made more welcome than we were! Every time we left the lift into the lobby, whichever staff was on the desk popped their head up to say hello to him! 

The breakfast is savage too! I looked forward to it every morning.

I'd recommend this hotel 100% and I can't wait to come back again. I travel a LOT for work, this hotel beats any other hotel I've stayed in. I'm writing this on my first night home and I miss the place already. Clonakilty is a special town, and this hotel exemplifies everything that's great about the place. 

The best hotel experience I've had in Ireland

We stayed here for two nights recently. Fabulous quaint room with a balcony. Cosy, warm and clean. Spacious room and bathroom. Staff are fantastic and breakfast is generous with a good choice. Special shout out to Robin in reception and the two guys in the bar. Will be back.

Quaint and friendly hotel

We popped into this hotel recently on a day trip to Clonakilty to see Santa. Despite initially being unsure of the somewhat old fashioned surroundings, we were very happy with our choice. Really tasty good quality cooked breakfast, scones & croissants at very reasonable prices. Friendly helpful service. We left saying we would definitely be back and really appreciated the old world charm by the time we left

Tasty Breakfast, Great Value

Very intriguing hotel, rooms are very comfortable & warm. Staff are extremely friendly, secure parking.
Located right in the centre of town, food is affordable & ok. Full of photographs from the past, which adds to its family run business.
Great for a 2 or 3 day stay.

It's easily a 3 Star, highly recommended hotel in Clonakilty.

Really loved our stay in this authentic hotel. The building itself is glorious , beautiful original timber everywhere , proper staircase , lovely little spaces to sit and read one of the many books on display;
 Everything was great , bit of craic checking in at reception. The barman maintained an excellent sense of humour despite busily sorting drinks, taking food orders and serving dinners. The food is decent  pub grub and not pretentious 
.The bed was fabulous, really comfortable. There are signs of wear and tear which I don't mind at all . Breakfast was cooked to order.
 This is a genuine old school hotel, not all chrome, plate glass and mirrors.
Good value too ! I love it.   

Authentic Hotel

This is a charming place, the ideal base from which to tour historic West Cork & recall the critical  part this region played in Ireland's War of Independence. It also served me the most delicious seafood chowder I can remember in my almost three score and ten!. ( A meal in itself but an excellent starter  at dinner  - having been fortified with a fine Irish breakfast that had enabled me to skip lunch). You are made so welcome throughout your stay and what strikes you immediately is the sense of history. This is a living museum in addition to being a charming hotel. So appropriate when you consider Michael Collins visited here on the day he was killed. A bonus was staying on a Tueday night to be regaled by the Irish traditional music session that also features on Sundays in the autumn and winter. This place  is also spotless and the staff have an evident pride in their work. And talking of history no better person to take you on a tour than Tim Crowley of the Michael Collins Centre & Museum a few miles out the road off the Cork road.

Perfect base  & Perfect Chowder !

This hotel is so warm and friendly. It is a home away from home. Clean and well run. Staff in all departments could not be more helpful or engaging. Lovely welcoming fire in well stocked bar. Comfortable foyer to browse free newspaper at your leisure. Most importantly it is integrated into the fabric of the town and gives off a wonderful warm feeling. We will be back

It was just perfect for a quiet romantic break

The hotel may only be 2 star but it had absolutely everything we wanted and having done so many 4 and 5 stars over the years, we now favour more traditional accommodation. Warm welcome. Good value. Great breakfast. Lovely staff. Clean comfortable quiet room. Lovely cosy bar. Loved all the things to see on walls and shelves. Ideal location for pubs, restaurants and shops.

Lovely cosy hotel

If holidaying with your pooch is your plan look no further than O'Donovans. Access all areas expect for the restaurant are the house rules. A mix of old world charm (reception, bar & An Teach Beag) with a modern twist (Alley Garden Bistro) We took the loft apartment for four days, this place was ideal. Clean, comfortable, well equipped and very spacious. The hotel is centrally located close to all amenities, especially Incydoney beach which we all enjoyed for daily walks, simply fabulous.
Complimentary breakfast offered despite our apartment being self catering is a nice gesture and it was delicious and plentiful each morning. A special mention must go to the staff of O'D's, from the moment we checked in, to check out time, every single member of staff were exemplary. So welcoming and helpful, a credit to the hotel. We will return in the future.
