Excellent stay in Montalcino - the city is gorgeous. The host was very nice and helpful (especially after we left without a document and she was kind enough to send over pictures as copies :)). The 3 person room was actually an apartment with a small kitchenette, with a gorgeous view. Breakfast was more than enough, with very tasty home-made cakes.

Excellent accommodation in Montalcino

Perfect location, very nice and large apartment, we were just here for one night with our kids but it would be perfect for a weeklong holiday in the heart of Tuscany. Very close walking to a half dozen enotecas, the Fort, great restaurants. Breakfast was extensive and tasty. Not sure what the other reviews mean about service, they seemed very thin skinned, if you want American style service stay in Holiday Inn, if you want to meet real people with real culture, you stay at a place like this.

Great spot, great space

This old palazzo is actually made up of three room suites, not your usual hotel rooms. There is a kitchen LR, a bedroom and a bathroom all very spacious. And there is onsite parking too.
It is an easy walk to the main street and there is a clean modern coin laundry just around the corner.  The osteria downstairs has great food too. It is a casual operation, and there are some steep stairways if you dont like climbing. Dont be fooled by the little lady who runs the place, she is the head of the Padelletti family who own the residence, a wine shop, and a famous winery. She was very helpful to us during our short stay.

A terrific find

We had an overall very good stay at Residenza Palazzo Saloni.
Location: very good, right at the entrance of the town and walking distance everywhere. A very convenient free parking spot (Note: avoid large cars, you won't be able to drive around town)
Apartment/room: simple furniture, but ample and quiet, despite being right next to the reception. Great view from the windows. Tiny bathroom, but that didn't bother us.
Breakfast: good but not great. They charge if you ask for a second warm beverage, which I don't agree with. 
Although a few things could be slightly improved, it was a nice stay and we'd be more than willing to come back, especially if driving!

Overall a very good stay

This is a beautiful Palazzo in the heart of Montalcino, with the ability to park onsite - which is rare - so we were very happy! But the room and service were just okay.  We had a room right on the street so could not open our windows without people being able to look in as they walked by.  The room could have definitely used a bit of updating and the shower was so small my husband joked that he had to shower with the soap in his hands because he couldn't even bend down far enough to put it on the floor (there was nowhere else to put it).  The advertisement for the accommodation stated that a buffet breakfast was provided daily but when we went to inquire, were were told that buffet's were not permitted now due to Covid (which I fully understand), but at least offer us a cafe or cornetti! The answer was just NO.  I also think someone could have mentioned it during check-in that breakfast would not be provided given the circumstances.  We have young kids who were hungry and we would have prepared better had we known.

INCREDIBLE location, but the rest was just okay

So here's the deal. We arrived at the Residenza at 6pm to find it locked. The sign on the door told us to go around the corner to the ristorante, which we did. Suzanna - who was not really welcoming at all (I cannot recall her smiling once) - came from the ristorante and checked us in. She gave me directions to the parking lot as follows: "Go down the street to the first gate and park in there." The first gate was 100 meters down the street but one could not park there. I went to the end of the street, found temp parking, and walked back. When I explained what happened, Suzanna showed me where the parking lot was: not down the street to the first gate but directly around the corner behind the hotel - less than 15 meters away. 

The rooms themselves were lovely, but filled with more signs that were not welcoming. 

At no time did we feel like we were valued guests. We were not greeted with a welcome. During the check in process we felt like we were imposing. When we finally got to the rooms - which were lovely and well appointed with a postcard view of the Tuscan mountains - the first thing we were greeted with were warning notices. Do you want more clean towels? Pony up an additional 10 Euros. Leave a dish in the sink? That will cost you another 30 Euros. Breakfast was at the ristorante around the corner between 8-10am. We arrived at 9am. There was no one there to make us coffee and many of the plates of food (serve yourself) were empty. We waited about 10 minutes before someone came and asked us if we wanted coffee. 

Should we return to this lovely Tuscan town, be assured that we will stay elsewhere.
