We was there off season, late October and the hotel was actually closed. They opened it just for us and they took care us as they were open. They even prepare a great breakfast for us. Hotel has great views and the room we stayed was really big even for 4 adults. Absolutely recommended!

Great place to stay

Was there with a group of bikers last March 2014 and although it was really cold weather in Lorica, hotel was nice and warm. Sergio really cared for us and evening meal was fantastic with some local appetizer and great wine. The rooms are clean and have a fantastic view of the Avro Lake. Sergio also prepared a great b/fast for us. It's an ideal place to stay while visiting the area. Parking is no problem at the hotel. I will be going back in May with the wife this time by car though.

Amazing location

People in Lorica were very kind, the canone on the lake is good, people were reality thinking of way, Lorica is a good point to make excursion to sea bank, to Lipari islands, to Sicily. Nature is wonderfull.

family trip

The resort needs to be updated, painted and maintained better. Because of the winding roads and the distance you couldn't leave the area and other than the lake and a few restaurants there is nothing to do.

Beautiful lakeview but that's where it ends!

We did a week's timeshare exchange to this place and don't know whether it is possible to book accommodation here by other means.

Best things about resort
If you want to spend time overlooking a pretty lake surrounded by miles of tree-clad mountains and other lakes, and don't expect the excellent amenities and high standards typical of the better timeshare resorts, this might suit you. I would say it is fair quality self-catering accomodation. Half the rooms overlook the lake and most rooms have balconies.

Best attractions or restaurants nearby
Resort is in centre of Lorica village, which has a small choice of restaurants. All were reasonably priced but none was outstanding. You need a car to get anywhere else and to be prepared to drive at least an hour each way. Plenty of curves and hair-pin bends to drive, which I enjoyed but some may not.

Review
Very few non-Italians seem to stay here and it was a little difficult to find English-spesking staff. Reception was closed afternoons and sometimes unmanned when supposed to be open. No pool or air-con. However, since you are 4000 feet above sea level, it doesn't get hot in summer (we had 21 degrees C/ 70 F when it was 30 degrees C/ 86 F down on the coast)

Apartments were basic. Small kitchen area with noisy fridge which kept our daughter awake as her pull-out bed was nearby. No English channels on tiny TV.

We were given a long list of house rules translated into English when we arrived. One rule was not to disturb other guests by being noisy. However, the loud disco on the floor below our appartment kept us awake into the small hours.

The village of Lorica is situated in the centre of the Sila National Park, which is beautiful and unspoiled, but after a week we felt we had seen enough trees to last a lifetime! The area has little else in the way of tourist attractions and many restaurant and shop staff spoke little English. Most, but not all, were friendly and helpful. The ability to speak some Italian would be very useful for visitors to this area. Our teenage daughter was thoroughly bored with the place and we really wished we had chosen somewhere with a pool and other child-friendly amenities.

One advantage of this area is that it costs considerably less to eat and drink than the well-known Italian tourist destinations.

Disappointing Resort in Undeveloped Mountain Area

Its taken me a few days to write this review, after my stay as I simply can't find a way to voice my complete shock at our experience. Allow me to elaborate. A deposit of Eu140 is taken by a shady Manager who assures us that it is for incidentals and will be returned. The Residence reception walls are covered with RCI Excellence awards but no one can be found in reception for the entire week (day or night). The lobby lights remain off. The restaurant displays operation hours but is never open. There is an entire floor dedicated to animation team, sauna etc. but this is all locked up and never open. The wifi comes and goes and drops the line constantly. The bed mattresses have not been replaced in years - I still have shoulder pain from 1 week on a springy mattress. Tap covers missing, shower clogs up, stained old refrigerator and an old small tube tv from the 70's with a grand total of 8 Italian channels. This is all somewhat liveable, problematic but do-able until your check-out day arrives and the day before a knock on your room door and a man shoves a laminated form in your face (no hello, excuse me - nothing) On this form it demands that you clean your own room and if not done to their satisfaction they will charge you accordingly. We spent 2 hours cleaning our rooms, kitchen and bathroom to a state much better than what we found originally. We rang the bell at reception and the shady Manager appeared and we informed him we needed to checkout very early the next morning. On checkout we found a bill addressed to ourselves simply lying on the desk. It was for the exact deposit amount. Which mind you, was not held but immediately charged a week earlier. An unexplained 'Usage Fee' and a 'Cleaning Fee' - even without the room being expected? Why did we spend our holiday time in this dark dingy village cleaning a hotel room when we were going to be charged anyways. The whole thing is super shady and we immediately felt like we had been scammed. The saddest thing is that RCI continues to list a place like this and somehow honours its awards of excellence to this dark and depressing hotel. Don't be shocked if you discover the same - you have been warned, stay at your own risk!
