This hotel is located 5 min from the Ilya vine bridge , 30 min to Ochial village and 1 h from the nagaro scarecrow village . 
There is free parking in front of the hotel . 
The hospitality here cannot be matched from someone greeting you at the car park bringing your bags to reception then to room to someone pressing the lift for you etc. 
Our room was a twin suite with sitting room and two toilets next to the indoor onsen . 
We booked the private onsen at 3850 yen for 45 min and it was thoroughly worth it as we were able to take photos . You have to take a mini wooden funicular up to the hillside for the onsen . It was a worthy experience . 
For dinner , we sat at this table with a charcoal grill in the middle . We had the pregnant fish . 
Overall dinner was satisfactory . It ended with the lady boss singing a folk song and going round the tables asking about the stay and dinner . What amazing hospitality .

Amazing hospitality and onsen

A holiday highlight. 
An experience you could only have in Japan as all the staff warmly share their delightful hotel with its traditional very comfortable rooms, indoor and outdoor onsen and dining.
You are gently guided and have their ways shared with you to create a special time you will always remember.
From the ethereal lady owner singing us a folksong during dinner to the ride in their wonderful old bus to see the Vine Bridge and waterfall all lit up at night every minute was a treat.
The food was without a doubt a highlight. Not only the flavours but also the presentation and to have it all explained at each step was wonderful. Try the Japanese breakfast it was delicious.
It was great to be able to stay 2 nights and enjoy the tranquility of the hotel during the day. 

Not to be missed

The customer service and attention to detail were the outstanding! Honestly this is the best hotel I have ever been (and I am well traveled) the staff were super nice and they listened and went the extra mile to make our stay the best we ever experienced. They gave us excellent food and took their time to ask if we didn’t like anything so they could provide food to our liking but it was already great food! The onsen upstairs is gorgeous with an amazing view of the mountains and the Japanese style room is excellent. This hotel deserve more stars! We did drive from Osaka and it was 200% worth the trip. I only have good words to describe this place. We left with a warm heart and we didn’t want to leave. I will come back in a heart beat! It is going to be hard for any other hotel to top their customer service. There are also nice things to do in the area like the scarecrow village and adventure park.

We arrived at the hotel & was greeted by the staff so warmly as if we were their long lost relatives. 
The receptionist spoke perfect English during check in & voluntarily upgraded our room. I suppose they were informed that we were there to celebrate my birthday.

The place was clean, the service was excellent & matching that of a 5 star hotel. 

Upon settling down, we went straight to the rotenburo, which is the outdoor onsen, a hot spring bath, that overlooked the mountain & nature. As the rotenburo was situated on the mountain top above the Ryoken, we had to take a cable car which was connected within the hotel in order to reach it. 

The kaiseki meal for dinner was sumptuous & uniquely Japanese of course. Every dish was explained in detail with much effort. The diners were also seated spaciously  in the common dining hall with lots of privacy between them.

We were also entertained by a lady staff who sang a Japanese folk song that created that atmosphere which complemented the authentic Japanese meal. 

It was a relaxing & wonderful Ryoken for us.

We were supposed to stay for 2 nights. Unfortunately, we had to abort the stay as my mom had passed on the same night. The staff was so helpful to arrange for us a taxi to send us to the Kochi  airport at 0300 hrs to catch the first flight back to Singapore where we came from.

What was surprising was that the hotel even refunded us the one night room rate  which we had paid but were unable to continue with the stay. 

We will highly recommend visitors to stay there if they are visiting that area. It is only an hour train ride from Kochi train station & to alight at Oboke station. There’s a direct bus from the Oboke station or you can call a cab which cost about ¥300 which will take about 20 min to arrive. The cab’s companies telephone numbers are written at train the station desk for visitors’ information.

We chose this hotel for our visit to Oboke because of the outdoor onsen, and it did not disappoint! 

You can take a bus from the Oboke station, however the frequency is not high, hence we took a taxi which cost slightly less than 3000 yen. You can walk to the Kazurabashi bridge from the hotel (approximately 15mins), but there wasn't a proper walkway for pedestrian. However there wasn't much traffic so it didn't feel dangerous walking along the main road. The hotel provides a night tour (8pm every night) to the bridge and the Biwa falls, and the friendly driver helped to take pics, and stopped at a spot for star gazing! 

Dinner and breakfast were included in the stay. During dinner, the Okami sang us a beautiful traditional song, and chat with us to ensure we enjoy ourselves. The food was well prepared and was made from regional produce.

The onsen was the highlight. You can a take a cable car up to the outdoor onsen (there's stairs if you want to), which has the most beautiful mountain view. There's a lodge for hot tea after the bath, and a footbath where you can sit and enjoy the view. If you are visiting during winter like we did, I would suggest washing yourself in the indoor bath, have a quick soak to warm yourself up, throw on your yukata, then head up quickly to the outdoor onsen. On our first soak, we made the mistake of showering outdoor and it was freezing, although we did warmed up in no time after going into the onsen. There's only 2 showers in the outdoor onsen, so if you might have to wait for your turn if there's a crowd.

We enjoyed the stay and the onsen, and would highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a great onsen experience.

Beautiful onsen

Lucky that we have chosen this hotel for our stay in Oboke, because the photo does not look too attractive in hotel booking web sites. The reason we choose this hotel was it's the nearest hotel to the bridge and offer night tour at night to the bridge. Once we arrived the hotel, we noticed that the room is clean and bright. But the most attractive is their "outdoor onsen in the sky" (direct translation from their Japanese character), the view was just amazing. One of the best view of all the outdoor onsen that I have ever been. There were 2 times during my one night stay that I can enjoy the onsen alone!! Even though the hotel was full being the week before the golden week in Japan. So good that we now planning to go back in coming Autumn to enjoy the beautiful mountain view again.
真高興我們選了這溫泉酒店，雖然在訂房網的照片拍得一點也不吸引，但到達後，你會發現在酒店後山上的露天溫泉風景一流，經由酒店的電梯/纜車?直達，十分方便，秋天有紅葉時一定要再來一次！

Stunning out door onsen view

Wow, what a treat!  The location is spectacular.  We drove & found it quite easily (with the Sat Nav) & the staff jumped to take our bags & park the car - and everything got better from there!
Two nights was not enough.....and we didn't even use the Onsen as we ran out of time.
The food is great, as is all the service.
Can't recommend this place enough.

Japan tour

In what seems like the middle of nowhere, this hotel offers an exceptional experience. Three or four staffers came outside to offer us a warm welcome when we drove up, and that set the tone for our stay. When we couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the beer vending machine, a staff person scurried off to change our bill into coins to make it work. The concierge ran to get me a longer yukata when he realized I was taller than the average Japanese woman. And after I sneezed just once in the bar area (even though I covered my mouth and truly wasn’t sick!), another fellow raced over with a mask for me! 
As for the facility itself, the outdoor  onsen is jaw dropping. It is accessed via a cable car that climbs the cliff in under 2 minutes. The onsen is surrounded by lush greenery and offers gorgeous views of the mountains and valley. 
After our onsen experience, we participated in a multi course dinner that provided an array of foods, textures and tastes, all presented with style. We were beyond full and still the food kept coming! Plus we were treated to a song sung by one of the staffers. Wonderful!

A treasure!

Tonight will be our third night here at this wonderful hotel. While the hotel is older it is very charming and clean. Service has been outstanding!  All of the staff have been personable and helpful! However, only Japanese speaking which has been fine since we speak passable Japanese. 

We have been enjoying the outdoor onsen. The onsen is accessed on the third floor by getting onto a wooden cable car that takes you uphill about 150 yards. Once you get to the top there is a foot bath, separate male and female outdoor onsens, and a resting place where you can enjoy the beauty of the mountains.  The onsen water is soft and leaves your skin feeling silky.  As a FYI there is an indoor onsen as well but we’ve only experienced the outdoor onsen.  

The rooms are large, comfortable and clean with private toilets and shower /tub. I understand some rooms have shared bathroom facilities.  We opted for the tatami room but there are rooms with beds, large soaking tubs and massage chairs. 

The food has also been outstanding with vegetarian options. We’ve had breakfast and dinner here and never left feeling hungry. On the contrary there was always a lot to eat!

Beautiful outdoor onsen and wonderful service 

We stayed here for one night during a group tour package with WalkJapan.  The owner greeted us in the lobby and said a few words a dinner.  She then sang a beautiful traditional Japanese song.  The food was outstanding, the rooms were wonderful, and the price was very reasonable.  This was one of the highlights of our 10 day tour.
