Did not have a choice for the hotel as it was arranged for me from the organizer for a business trip that I was attending. Room was small and me and my spouse had to make do with the small space for 7 nights. Overall, hotel was functional and breakfast was also provided. Location wise, it was close to a subway station and it was also within walking distance to Osu shopping district.

Although not really central, being located only a couple of blocks from the Kamimaezu subway stop the hotel was only a few stops from the key tourist sites and the city special sightseeing bus to take you to other major sites. That sightseeing bus is included with Nagoya's bus and subway pass, which in any event is well worth the money.  

The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the very important Osu Kannon Temple and the shopping arcades that flank it. 

My room was well equipped, adequate, but like the other hotels in Japan where I have stayed relatively small.  I should mention that as is typical of the Japanese hotels where I have stayed, the bathtub has high sides which entail climbing in and climbing out.

The hotel also has washer-drier machines -- very handy after a week of travelling -- and its own traditional common bath. (A couple of blocks behind the hotel is a very elaborate and surprisingly inexpensive hot spring.)

I should add that my stay came right in the middle of "Golden Week," the one week during the year that as many Japanese as are able take their vacations, so accommodations can be hard to find and also hotels are particularly busy. Despite that, throughout my stay I got the distinct feel that the staff felt no particular pressure or stress.

I enjoyed and would stay again. But a suggestion:  

The hotel did have some local hand-drawn maps, but unfortunately they were all in Japanese. (On the other hand, how many hotels in the U.S. and elsewhere have maps available in Japanese, Arabic, or any other writing system??) It would be useful for non-Japanese visitors if the hotel could provide maps with names in Western script, including particularly the number of the exit to take from the Kamimaezu subway station.

Definitely worth staying at, and I would stay again.

Good points: 
1. Close to metro station. Shops and restaurants are around the corner. 
2. Breakfast included. 
3. A public big bathroom is free to use. 
4. Clean. 

Bad points: 
1. The door of the hotel cannot be locked automatically. 
2. Room is small. 
3. Wifi is quite slow.

Average Hotel with reasonable price

Made reservations for a Saturday night (and two additional nights) on Friday night, so this was as close as we could get to Kyoto without spending a fortune. (Having a rail pass near the shinkansen changes the meaning of "close")

Before we explored and understood the subway system, the hotel seemed to be out in boondocks. It was an almost 2000 yen cab ride to get there from the train station. In the morning, with the energy to explore, we found that we were 800 meters (10 minutes) from the subway, and it was a less than ten minute subway ride to the JapanRail station. Also that same 800 meters got one to a large shopping district.

The room was small but clean and the breakfast ordinary. I'd call this hotel a good value.
