The reception lady is extremely nice and friendly, with adequate english for basic communication. Wifi unit for room can be borrowed for free and works well. It looks classic, but everything functions and are neat and tidy. I and my friend stayed in the Economy Suite non-smoking room. There was no smell at all. Bathroom is not big, but enough for a good hot bath or shower. Location is excellent, less than 5 minutes walk from JR Takamatsu station and Kotoden airport bus and railway Takamatsu Chikko station. There's supermarket at JR station and a Aeon convenient store opposite to the hotel. The room price is the lowest among the nearby area. All in all, it's economic and will be a pleasant place to stay.

Great place for economic travelers 

The location of this hotel is excellent! 5 minutes from the JR station and airport bus along with any major bus terminal. 10 minute walk to the ferry ports. 10 minute walk to the shopping district. Previous reviews noted you need to plug in your own modem system. That is now no longer the case. Though they have a bunch of different ones you log into with the instructions to just log in to the strongest one. Wifi is strong and didn't break. Staff is very friendly though some can't speak English but they are still friendly and helpful. When we checked in, we had only one set of towels and toothbrush set.  However, this was quickly remedied with an apology. They also have a lot of rules. As they provide an actual key, you are required to return the key before you leave by 12 PM. When you return, you just ask for the key (no ID is needed but perhaps we were the only non Japanese in the whole hotel) and as we added breakfast, they will give you the next day's meal ticket. Basically, you don't give me the key before noon, you don't get breakfast the next day. At midnight, they will lock the hotel door so the only way in is by a security code. Another strange rule is they will also lock the hotel between 12 - 4 PM to clean the hotel. You can't return to the hotel during that time (unless an emergency). So, if you plan to leave your luggage there, you can't get it back until after 4 PM. They will only clean your room every 3 days but will toss out the garbage and refill things daily. So, yes, bed is not made until the 3rd day. The breakfast is quite good for a hotel of this type. I was impressed. Very good selections of traditional Japanese and Japanese Western breakfast. They have a cook your own udon section, too. But the dining area is only open for breakfast. The rest of the day, they offer a coffee machine and microwave for guests. But the strangest thing about this hotel? If you pay by cash and not credit card, they will give you almost ¥4000 worth of udon. We received 6 bags of udon! Just bizarre! Room is a good size and smoke free. Extremely friendly staff and  clean.

friendly hotel but lots of strange quirks

I have stayed 4 nights there with friends. The room size is really fit for me and very tidy. The in-room facilities are good and you can get everythings (basic things) I need.  Staff are nice and helpful!

The location is very convenience and quite easy to take JR, Kotoden train and airport shuttle. You can also find some good restaurant nearby.


Nice hotel nearby JR Takamatsu station

Stayed here 3 nights and very happy with it. Looks a little old to start but the bed and pillows were very comfortable so an excellent nights sleep. A bit more room to walk between the bed and desk compared to many other places I've stayed in Japan. I asked for a second pillow and delivered to room while I was out at dinner.
Man at desk had me confused at check in as little English but he wanted a contact phone number in case of any items left behind so an email given instead.
Full room service every day even if not required.  Room has TV, kettle, hairdryer, humidifier, fridge. Windows will open which is good.
Wardrobe to hang clothes.
Borrow Wi-Fi unit from front desk for stay which I had not seen before but worked fine. Good block out curtains. Note that the bath/shower tub has very high sides( higher than any others I've used) so if you are short or have mobility issues that could be a problem. 
All in all very comfortable accommodation so recommended and a good price.


Great location close to JR Station & ferry.

Hyper Inn is dated.  In our room, water marks are left unprinted.  Facilities are adequate.  In fact, bicycles are available for complimentary use.  

Room is small like most rooms in Japan.  Room and bathroom are slightly below average in cleanliness.  The bathroom has been renovated.

Because of its reasonable price and location, I would return.

Great location close to JR station and bus terminal

It is very near to the station, a short walking distance away, which makes it very convenient if you want to travel around the city with local train. And it is also quite near to Takamatsu castle ruins, and a short walking distance to the town centre. Other than that, it is just a normal average accommodation. Check-in time was 4pm, no early check-in was allowed, but they allow you to store your luggage. Front desk does not speak good English, but somehow it is still possible to understand each other. I did not include breakfast, hence cannot comment on the quality of the breakfast. The room I got is a smoker room, and it smells awful for a non-smoker, and you cannot open the window to let fresh air in. Don't really like the room, do not feel that comfortable, which means in my opinion, not value for money.

Hotel at a convenient location

There was no option for non-smoking or smoking room on the online reservation site I used. Reading good reviews of the hotel, I was highly expecting a good, relaxing stay at Takamatsu, despite the high price tag. There was no reviews mentioning about cigarette smell so I thought it's properly ventilated. 

I was so wrong. The hotel is an old business hotel with elevator small enough for 2 adults and 1 luggage only. The moment the elevator opened on the 6th floor, thick cigarette smell engulfed. The room similarly had thick smell even when they provided old air purifier. The smell got worse at night and early morning. They didn't have non-smoking room available for change, but allowed me to change room the next day. Yes, they do have non-smoking room, so do make sure to book it.

The non-smoking room is better, but the floor is not non-smoking. Thick cigarette smell was still there in the corridor and worse around 6-8am when the smell penetrates door area and bathroom. The fridge on this new room is so small I can't put anything else more than 2-3 bottles of drink.

If not because of the elder staff who assisted me during the room change, I would have given 2 stars. It's completely far from what I expected on that price tag. I've visited Japan multiple times, staying at business hotels, and this is the worst among all. Re-reading the reviews again, it feels like I'm staying at a completely different hotel. The only good point is the proximity to the station. If you need wifi, they will lend a set of wireless router to be connected to the room's LAN cable, which means you will have strong connection.
