The only thing that would have improved our experience was a couple
 more weeks in the friendly and hospitable setting. The hosts were excellent, breakfasts outstanding and location incredible. Really look forward to visiting this time next year.

Chills ville

Located in the jungle more or less. Full of sounds of nature! Nice rooms. Nice Japanese breakfast. very friendly owners. They have a boat and we have a day scuba diving from the boat. The beach Hoshizuna-no-hama (star sand beach) is walking distance. Nice izakaya also walking distance. It seesm you are lost in Paradise!

Amazing place

This is a simple but very intimate resort with the most friendly owners I have ever met. Matsu (the owner) was exceptional at making our stay as comfortable as possible.
The setting is beautiful - out of the bath you are looking out to the jungle and the beach is only 5 mins away. Lots of various insects.. So be prepared.
All in all, a perfect location to stay at an amazing Iriomote-Jima! We hope to come back again!

Perfect spot to stay at Iriomote-Jima

Please note, the name of this resort is Nilaina, not Niraina.  On their travel website, Japan travel aficionados, Ippei and Janine Naoi, highly recommend Nilaina Resort as a great place to stay when visiting the VERY beautiful Iriomote Island.  We were not disappointed!  

We had a wonderful accommodation experience in this inviting eco-lodge/resort - from the warm welcome by owner “Matsunaga” and his staff to their parting goodbyes.  The beds were comfortable, our room was more than adequate for 3 people and it was great being able to shower looking out into the lush, private greenery through a large (screened) window in our bathroom.  The breakfasts were delicious with Japanese and Western-style food being served on alternate mornings.  It’s a good idea to let Matsu know in advance if you don’t eat a lot for breakfast (like us) for we simply could not eat all that was served and we felt bad about wasting such good food.  Since we were happily exhausted at the end of each day after great outdoor activities, we ate dinner mostly at Nilaina so we could completely relax.  Pre-dinner drinks at the bar or on their gorgeous deck (along with some very interesting conversation with Matsu), followed by an excellent dinner menu selection made for perfect evenings at the resort.  After dinner on a couple of nights, we reclined on comfortable futons in the cozy loft above the bar/dining room and read and chatted (other guests were extremely pleasant).  We highly recommend Nilaina Resort if you are staying on Iriomote Island (or an island nearby). Thank you to all who made it such a fantastic experience!

A gem of a stay on Iriomote-jima

This cosy resort is situated 5 minutes walk from the Hoshino Suna Beach. There are only 4 rooms and you can hear birds singing every morning. The owner of the resort is a very nice guy and he organised activities for the guest also. We joined the day snorkel trip with the yacht and the under water marine life is beautiful and the yacht is gorgeous. During our stay at the resort, the dinner they prepared is so delicious and don't forget the home made ice cream  it is a must dessert after dinner. We also recommend the trekking and kayaking day trip to the  water fall it is steep but the view is stunning.

An excellent cosy resort near to Hoshino Suna Beach

This hotel is very nice.   Beds comfortable but if you put two together watch out for the crack.   Mid night bed moved and I fell to floor.  Not hurt but wow!  Hotel has seen better days and hot tub was small and cold.  No instructions on how to turn on or heat up.   Rooms where clean.   Wood needed major care.   With some TLC this hotel could be nice but owner who lives on site did not seem to want to do it.  Food was good.  We arrived on Saturday and told no dinner.   OK web said no dinner on Monday.  The young lady who picked us up did give us names of different places and we picked one.   Hotel did shuttle us to the place and back.   Next morning we got up and had breakfast.   Thought we had choice of Western or Japanese.  No every other day it changes.   Did have dinner at place which tasted good but was also very pricey for the amount you got.  Owner was nice but first person we meet at the hotel helped us more with making reservations for only full day we had on the island.  May come back but others hotels looked more interesting and better kept.
