Stayed in July 2018.

I chose this hotel because it is just walking distance to the centre of this quaint town, the rooms and hotel grounds are also quaint, plus I have my own balcony viewing the main street below.

The taxi knew where it is so it wasn't difficult for me to find it. Checking in was a breeze even if the receptionist the night I arrived does not speak English. I walked only going to the Luna Rooftop of Rosewood hotel to have my first dinner in SMA with a stunning view of the the town.

I got very ill during my stay, perhaps because of the cold and I am a bit tired already as this is the last leg of my 1-month holiday. I stayed inside my room most of the time but it was difficult for a solo traveller that you cannot even call the reception for some help with medicine or buying your food. These are the times when I wished I just stayed in a fancy hotel.

It is very central that I just walked to everywhere around this town, so location wise, it was perfect.

Though this hotel is not the best one its incredible location offers all. I definitely would stay again, my best recommendation is the "Corazón Room". 

Have to mention, that this place is a little pricey and it's a really old place, but the theme is so good and it's comfortable. Hated the showers.

Best location on town

The Good: The Hotel Casa Loteria is located in el centro of San Miguel de Allende, close to everything including dozens of wonderful restaurants. The staff is pleasant and helpful. My first room on the second floor was good, but the second room that I was asked to move to had a large public rooftop terraza perfect for enjoying a glass of wine at sunset.

The Bad: The neighbourhood is unfortunately very noisy during the Christmas holiday season with loud music and plenty of fireworks. Many bars and restaurants are open until 4:00 in the morning pumping out loud music and the sounds of their patrons enjoying their celebrations. It's an amazing time of year to be in San Miguel de Allende, but not so close to the main square.

The Quirky: At Hotel Casa Loteria there are 19 skinny spiral stairs (and no elevator) leading to the second floor were I was located for the first night. Then at 5:00 p.m. of the following day, I was asked to move upstairs to the kitchenette - and there are nineteen more stairs to where my next room was located. At age 69, stairs wouldn't normally bother me but I was in the process of relocating to San Miguel de Allende to live and had my short-legged dog with me, plus three extremely heavy suitcases. There was no one available to help me move the suitcases from the second floor to the third floor, so I proceeded to take 9 or 10 trips from one room to the other to move my stuff. My new bigger room was located right beside the hotel laundry facilities which typically didn't stop operations until 11:00 p.m. or later. Plus four or five trips a day up and down 38 stairs became painful for my knees.

The Annoying: I was originally booked from December 23rd to January 6th, but on December 31st, New Year's Eve, I was able to move a few blocks further away from the square where the all-night celebration was scheduled to take place. I gave the staff plenty of notice that I would be leaving in the afternoon of December 31st. Two of the young ladies helped me lug the three heavy suitcases from the top floor to the bottom and arranged a taxi for me. In my rush to clear out of the room so that they could re-sell it for New Year's Eve, I forgot to remind them to give me a refund for the remaining 6 nights.

Today is January 10th 2020 - and the hotel management refuses to answer my emails requesting a refund.

Excellent location and service. Rooms are “peculiar”. Doors and windows will not spare you the noisy outside; you can hear even the quietest conversation outside your room. 
Employees are willing to assist every time. 
Little bit overpriced, but it delivers.

Everything DIRTY: floors, walls, curtains. Stains, hairs and DOG FOOD EVERYWHERE!!! Things broken. 
WC HAS NOT DOOR!!! But wc has a mirror exactly in front so you can see from outside!
Pictures are not anything like the real hotel.

Simply nasty and DIRTY!!!

Easy review this place is a SHAME!

We booked it because we stupidly trusted the pictures on the website.

We arrived there, a child welcome us. No adults around, place where only kids are working!

We get a room that was not at all what we booked, answer from the kid who is supposed to be the receptionist " this room doesn't exist anymore", well how can you took a reservation for a room that doesn't exist and even dough why not informing us before our arrival?.

We complained and said that we paid full price for this room, so they gave us another room or should I say a rabbit hutch. No windows, 85% of humidity unsanitary, we were 5 people,  2 couples and a kid we ended up with a small bed for 2 and a camping bed that's it. Do the math 4 beds for 5 people, did they offer a solution ? NO!

On top of that the day after we asked to talk with the manager ( again we had to deal with teenagers), we explained that we wanted to check out and get our money back, the manager (finally one adult) said it was impossible not even trying to compensate.

Every days dishes from breakfast stayed on table all day long, cleaning was so poor.
One morning we asked for a coffee, it was awful, we called the very very young waiter and his reply was a joke " my friend doesn't know how to do it and he added too much water in it sorry".

I question the code of conduct of this place, they refused to refund us the difference between our original booking and what we got.

This place is not an hotel not even a bead and breakfast. San Miguel is lovely and for sure you will find much better place and honest management.
