We just returned from our third stay here and look forward to our next visit. The hosts are so warm and gracious and the setting is beautiful, sacred and peaceful. There is much to do in the area, but the grounds are so interesting to explore, the rooms so comfortable and the pool so refreshing there is really enough to do on site. A highlight of our trip is the simple pleasure of evenings in the hammock stargazing and listening to the sounds of nature. Ux Mal is a must-see and I completely enjoyed the Ruta Puuc. Often I get kind of hot and tired touring large ruin sites, but the Ruta Puuc has many small, interesting sites with shade and hiking trails. It is a lovely day trip. The hosts commitment to sustainability and respect for the Mayan sites on the property helps make the stay there a memorable experience. I very highly recommend it, but it may not be perfect for everyone. The water in our room didn't seem to heat up as well this time and the wifi can be a bit spotty, I think. I was happy to go off-line and the cool water didn't bother me, so I didn't check to see if those things could have been better.

It's just magical there

Staff are amazingly attentive and courteous in this beautiful forested property. Very clean, well built and maintained rooms. Excellent breakfast. Also close to good restaurants (by car). I was sad to leave. 

Perfect accommodation for visiting Mayan ruins

This quiet beautiful resort in the Yucatan near Santa Elena,MX is lovingly attended

Walk on winding paths through the gardens or sit in a hammock on your casita's
front porch.
Savory high quality meals are served three times a day.
Gatherings in the large round house are available for meetings or yoga.

Nueva Altea; The New Atlantis

I stayed here with a group (14) traveling around the Yucatan. It is peaceful and calm. The staff are terrifically kind and attentive and the rooms are very clean. The owners speak English, which was very helpful to our group. We pre-arranged to eat our breakfasts and dinners there, and the food was fantastic. And of all the hotels we stayed in throughout the Yucatan (5 in total) they absolutely had the very best mattresses. I slept so well! Because it is an eco-hotel, they are completely on solar power. The punchline to that is there is no air conditioning. This was a challenge for some of the people in our group. Also, the wifi is in the lobby area (not in the rooms). We stayed here for convenient access to Uxmal. Other reviews have complained about a lack of hot water. Some people in our group said if you let it run for a while, there is hot water. Honestly, I never waited because it is always just hot in the jungle, and a cool shower felt good to me.

Authentic calm

The EcoHotel Nueva Altia is a wonderfully quiet and beautiful place. The green areas are carefully kept, but retain their natural fresh  look and feeling: you wake up in the middle of the forest to the sounds of birds.
The rooms are beautifully and simply design: oval shaped cabins, all white walls, great ventilation. Each room even has a balcony: I loved spending time in a hammock reading there. The layout of the units allows for enough privacy. Only certain rooms have wi-fi, but there is access to it in the main palapa.
Additionally, this healing place offers a temazcal, walking paths, and special areas where you can practice yoga, meditation, tai-chi or any otherbody-mind discipline. 
As if all that was not enough, you get a wonderful breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful.

ideal place to renew and reconnect

Located on the outskirts of Santa Elena in a very nice natural environment, this hotel offers a great jungle experience. In hotter days people not used to sleep without air conditioning might have some sleep difficulties as rooms are only equipped with ceiling ventilators.

A quiet and beautiful place run by a welcoming spanish-speaking family. Being an eco-hotel services here are basic. They only serve breakfast, though a delicious one. Finding good dining options is a challenge. I would've wished for a bigger pool.

Quiet and beautiful

A difficult place to review - this place has to serve many masters. It IS designed to be I think, a sort of refuge for people searching an eco-friendly chill-out. The other side to this is that all hotels in Santa Elena are going to be used as an access point for Uxmal and so a lot of clients are not there for the eco-vibe (like us). It was a great place if you take the former clientele in to account, but not so for the second. Service was very laid back, but extremely nice. Breakfast was so-so.We did enjoy the sauna/hot box and the pool eventually. Two nights was definitely too much for us.

A bit like marmite

Our tour company had booked us to stay here, but had to leave as they had no bar, or restaurant facilities, except breakfast.  It was too far from any other hotel for us to walk.  The grounds were swarming with mosquitoes.  It was a pity as the rooms looked really nice and it might be OK if you had a car and were prepared to go out for all meals and drinks.  
It appears that in the past they had a bar and did good dinners, but this has now stopped.
You may be able to get some warm water, but they only have solar panels, so maybe not.  The web site says “on request”.
It says English spoken, but they only spoke Spanish and the site seemed to be looked after by a maid and a security guard, with no other staff present
