We gladly repeat trip, just 35 minutes from Jalapa Veracruz, with great roads.
  We enjoyed the stay and the service and attention of the people around.
We visited the Cantona pyramids 10 minutes away, and other Haciendas of the
  1800,s
We were so impressed we highly recommend it.

Great hotel, really good relation between price and commodities. It's just one hour 15 minutes far from Puebla (highway, so easy to drive). The people at the hotel are really nice, room really confortable. In front of the hotel, you can test and buy spiritual drinks made by his owner. Tepeyahualco is really a small place, nothing to do... But the hotel has also a good prehispanic museum (pieces from the Cantona Site, located 15 minutes far from Tepeyahualco). From here, you can also visit Alchichica (lagoon) and others. You can ask for a guide service too.

If you have the time for side trips: a bit off the beaten path, close to the huge, little-known Cantona archaeological site, and within reasonabe driving distance trom Puebla, Xalapa, Xico, Perote, all worth visiting. We arrived in a group of 40 people touring the area.  Check-in was not bad considering the chaos with luggage/people in a small, but pretty, lobby.  We were the lucky ones: Room 106, with ample bed, fireplace, furnishings from India.  Every room a bit different, but some travel companions had much simplier, but well decorated, rooms.  We had hot water right away (some rooms have solar-heated, other boilers), but others did not. Beautiful jacuzzi-like tub, but would have taken too long to fill.  It is a bit hard to go to the bathroom comfortably with an open stall!  Comfortable bed, warm enough for the cold night there.  Fireplace only stayed lit 15 minutes.  Meals were out the door, 40 yards away, in an interesting thatched-roof dining room, unique bar area, plenty of table space.  Staff was pleasant and courteous, but illl-equipped to handle the crowd all at once, both dinner and breakfast.  It helped to go get what you needed at the counter. Food was basic for such a large group.  We brought our own wine.  Not much time to take advantage of sweat-bath (temazcal with feathered serpent entrance!), pool, outdoor jacuzzi, horses, excursions, etc.  There is a small museum across the street by the Limón Limón family...seems like every region of Mexico has a family enamored with the area that collects and displays.  This town is especially interesting because of the  nearby Cantona site, with unusual walled walkways, obsidian deposits, mutiple ball courts, and elevated dwelling areas.  Certainly a "different" area to visit..

Pretty ex-hacienda in a region little explored

The Hotel/ SPA(?) is in the center of Tepeyahualco town. It is a large property comprising several old but nicely renovated buildings. Rooms are "eclectic". Not very well planed and cold during this time of year (no climate in rooms). Beds are confortable and rooms well decorated with mostly Indian (from India ??) motifs. The SPA is basically non-functional. The massage rooms are cold and nobody to attend. The temascal (pre-hispanic sauna) was closed and the pool empty. There is a restaurant but with a VERY RESTRICTED menu. The place could be very nice and attractive but needs better management. A place to stay if visiting Cantona site

Could be great but, alas..... no

We were looking for a Hacienda to stay in on the last leg of our trip and these reviews made it sound perfect.  The only things in the reviews here that matched our experience was the artwork on the walls and the beautiful sitting room off the restaurant.  But we found the service to be one of the worst we have ever had in Mexico after 20 years of traveling.  I should have realized that the most recent review was a year ago.  We've been left alone before. . . wondering what we were supposed to do, but never ignored.  I had to ask at least 4 times if my car had been put into parking.  The maid forgot to clean the shower.  I understand people forgetting, but when I asked if I could get someone to come in and clean the shower, all I received was a shrug. We asked more than once but still no service.  We never showered because the shower floor was filthy with broken pieces of soap from another person's shower and the drain cover thrown aside.  It was bizarre.  The internet was OK, but not great, and a pain to log on.  I had to do it every time my computer went to sleep.  We had a room close to the reception, so found it was a decent connection.  The rooms are very quiet, but in a ghost town kind of way.  IN truth, only one person seemed to be there when we were there.  The reviews posted say that the food was great.  NO WAY.  We could hear the cook microwaving dinner for us and it was awful.  We ate it because we were starved after traveling and climbing Cantona most of the day.  There was a beautiful menu, but we didn't get to choose anything from it.  We only got chicken with a green sauce or chicken with a red sauce.  Both sauces were not very flavorful and the chicken was rubbery from the microwave.  however, when the cook made the bill for us, she took prices for chicken off some beautiful looking  menu that miraculously appeared from no where.  It was the most expensive hotel we stayed in and we had saved it until last so that we could enjoy it.  We could wander around and see the spa but we couldn't use it.  We could see the chapel and the museum, but no one let us in. We had advanced reservations, so they knew we were coming. 

The other reviews talk about good food.  We had experienced wonderful food in Puebla, Cholula and Tlaxala and were looking forward to ending our trip here.  We were so disappointed at the lack of service, thin towels, unusable shower and the most expensive place we stayed.  It was so over priced.  It should have been no more than 600 pesos for such poor service.  When I told the receptionist of the problems, no offer for a refund or compensation for the fact that we could not shower was offered.    Who are the people writing these reviews? the pictures match, but not the service or amenities. There had to be 80 rooms at the hotel and we were the only guests.  Perhaps we aren't important because we are independent travelers and we aren't part of a big bus tour or perhaps the place has declined since the last review.
