We stayed several days in December and very much enjoyed our stay.  Maria Dolores, the owner, is a wonderful host and is very pleasant and helpful.  We are a family of four and stayed in one of the cabins, with rooms adjoining the kitchenette and living room area.  My son loved swimming in the pool and there is also a small trail on the property for a short walk through the surrounding forest.  The rooms were very clean and comfortable.  Excellent views of Pátzcuaro and a short taxi drive gets you into the center of town.  The breakfasts were excellent with several options typical of the region.

A very charming place

I stayed at La Casa en el Bosque for two nights during Dia de los Muertos in 2013. There were 5 of us in our group and we stayed in cabins 4 and 5 (these can share a common living room/kitchenette). This is a beautiful place with a lovely view of the lake and surroundings. There are only about 10 rooms, so it feels more like being in someone's country home than in a hotel. The rooms were comfortable, very well kept and clean. As others have mentioned, breakfast in the courtyard was a great experience, with delicious food and great service. The owner, Maria Dolores, is absolutely delightful. She gave us a warm welcome and made sure we were comfortable all along. Thank you, Maria Dolores. You have a wonderful property, but meeting you made it even more memorable! We can't wait to go back for a longer stay!

A charming refuge in a magical location

We arrived the hotel late - 11pm, but the owner waited for us, and explained to us everything in details. The room is big and the bed comfortable and warm. Next day we had breakfast in the courtyard. The food is very good. Everyday the pool is cleaned. It's a very beautiful establishment and even though our stay is short, we really enjoy it. After I returned home, I found that I forgot a charger and the owner immediately sent it back to us through courier. I received it the next day.

We enjoyed our stay even though it is short

Everybody in La Casa en el Bosque went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Our cabin was spacious, quiet, surrounded by flowering plants and with a marvelous view of the town. Very tasteful Mexican decor and modern comfort details, like a small fridge, coffee maker, very hot water in the shower. Well-marked trails to walk in the woods, solar-heated pool, and a cooking area next to it with everything you need, from cooking oil to a microwave. We counted 15 hummingbirds one morning while having breakfast!

Lovely and perfectly clean

Green and quiet place to sleep far from downtown (it costs 30mxn to reach it by taxi). "Cabanas" are ideal for families. Owner is very attentive and breakfast is plentifull.
For our next visit, one guesthouse : la casa en el bosque, for sure!
