We were supposed to stay at another hotel in Leeuwarden but unfortunately when we showed up the place turned out to be a total nightmare (look at my other review about Campanile). So we started looking for something close but everything was almost full booked. Finally we found Van der Valk. The hotel was a pleasant surprise... clean, tidy, a fantastic hall and very kind and professional personnel. The rooms reflected high standards in terms of cleanliness and attention for details... and everything for a balanced price (almost the same of the one we ran away).
Decided to stay for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and it git even better. Tasty food well prepared and served with much attention for details. Price was in line with local restaurants and the personnel was very professional and kind. If you want to visit northern Netherland, stay in a very good hotel without bleeding yourself out that’s the place. You might need to drive 45 minutes to reach Amsterdam or Groningen but it is worth it.


What a nice surprise 

Most comfortable bed in a hotel ever.. a bed with a king top mattress. Very clean, reasonable price and breakfast was delicious! Door to outside, which was quiet and peaceful. Next to a boat habour.. look forward to staying here again.

Excellent!

Good hotel, sits on a large Loch gate in countryside . The hotel itself could do with modernising but it is still decent. Very busy, breakfast great, gym is not good, one cross trainer and one running machine. Restaurant expensive I paid €8 for pint of beer 🤨. Still good staff nice rooms good for business.

Good hotel

Everything was perfect, from an easy check in, to a large and clean room with a patio door to sit outside. 
The three course meal cost 85 Euro for two and totally worth it. We can use the welcome drink with the dinner. The buffet breakfast was excellent too.
We totally enjoyed our stay.

The perfect getaway

We stopped by here for lunch recently. Nice place to stop by. Good and friendly service from waitress and waiter. Quality of the food is good. Portions are generous and the service on the plate is really nice. All together a solid spot.

Good lunch!

Went in for a quick dinner, we got seated at a table of 4 (we were with 2 persons) and enjoyed complimentary bread with butter, while checking our menu. We ordered sole fish (2x and 3x) and with that came fries, baked potato pieces and cauliflower. Food came not so quick, but it was well explained as I asked for salt-less (no added salt) preparation of the food. Service was good, food quality also. This is just yet again a very good up-standard van der Valk hotel-restaurant.

Good food!

A wonderfull stay.... Nice diner suggestions. Ever so friendly waiters to ensure your great diner expexperience. Carpaccio is favourit. Also the breakfast buffet is rich enough and fresh enough. All  very tasty

Nice arrangement

Hotel staff are nice and hotel is ok, but it’s in need of modernising. Showers are a bit either red hit or freezing. Breakfast good, and pleasant enough location. Gym is useless. Two cross trainers and two rowing machines., which are out of date. No free weights. Noisy cleaners during the day if you are night shift.

Decent enough needs modernising decor

I choose this purely because its location suited me. This is one of the older style Van der Valk hotels and while some parts have been updated, most of it is looked a little dated. My room was a good size and a large (king sized) bed. Nice view over the water. Let down a bit by the bathroom, which was very dated.

Restaurant was busy when we went to eat at 19:00. Despite that the service was reasonably prompt. I was a bit disappoint by the menu, which was a bit boring. I had a tuna cappacio, where the tuna was of poor quality. I then has a steak, which was was well cooked but  a bit boring with no sauce or interesting additions. Definitely not as good as the best Valk hotel restaurants such as Almere.

A little dated

this Hotel is one of the two options you have in Emmeloord. It‘s ok, let‘s keep it that way. If you are used to international standards it is poor. The furniture is worn, see foto’s. The bathroom needs a renovation, in fact the complete hotel needs to be updated. The rooms are very dark, not enough light. It gives the impression that this hotel is used as a cash cow, without investing any money in it. 

That is a petty, the location is nice. The employees are friendly. The food is ok. The breakfast though can be a mess because of too many visitors. They grab like they had nothing to eat for days, and have never seen a buffet before. 

So, because of the lack of alternatives I recommend this hotel, but do not put your expectations too high.
