This is a stunning place. Set high up on hills above Granada, with volcano views, cooling winds, a swimming pool, hot outdoor shower, wi-fi, friendly hosts and good food. It has solar power, free filtered drinking water and fans in the rooms, so good environmentally. Hosts were friendly and helpful, I really didn't want to leave! It's only 15 minutes into Granada and a few minutes to Volcan Mombacho, so good location. 

Beautiful oasis surrounded by birds

This truly was amazing, beautiful place, beautiful surroundings and so peaceful up in the hill. The food was excellent, and the view when enjoying dinner is like you are living a dream. We went out for lunch and Romain gave us a beautiful tip. Villas Mombacho at the lakeside. Also beautiful. El respiro ecolodge is one of the best experiences on our journey through beautiful Nicaragua!

Simply woooooooow

This was a beautiful experience. The owners were so friendly and SUCH GOOD COOKS!! I brought my 14 year old son as part of a homeschooling trip and this was his favorite place we went. He loved the food and the animals on the farm. We got to feel the bunnies watermelon!! If I ever go back to Nicaragua this will be my first stop.

Amazing!!!

El Respiro is an eco-friendly, self-sustaining resort that leaves you speechless even on the road to get there. It is a small oasis of peace and tranquility in the middle of the jungle, the view is breathtaking, the only sound you will hear will be the singing of birds and howler monkeys.
We stayed in the Casita, a luxurious villa with bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with outdoor shower and a big patio where an amazing breakfast was served every morning.
Romain's cuisine is the best we have experienced in Guatemala! Every evening the dinner was delicious!
El Respiro is a great choice to get away from the chaos and heat of the city, there is also a wonderful swimming pool overlooking the jungle.
If you are in Granada you can ask for a taxi pick-up that will take you directly to the resort.
Everything was perfect, we couldn't have asked for better!

LIKE IN A DREAM

I stayed in the casita, the separate lodge from the main lodge, down the hill maybe 100 yards. The photos don't do it justice - furnishings are beautiful and new and comfortable.  The owner is lovely, very friendly and helpful! I appreciated him very much. The place itself is well kept, and surrounded by nature: I spotted monkeys, frogs, crickets, birds, and bats - who are all very vocal at all hours. I had one breakfast and one dinner there, both were fantastic. Staying there alone was a bit more isolated than I expected; I highly recommend this place for a couple or family/friends though.

Beautiful accommodations in a jungle setting

You can not go wrong staying at El Respiro.  I just had my second trip there two years apart and it’s every bit as good as I remember. Romain and Emi are perfect hosts.  They go above and beyond to make sure your stay is wonderful.  And their place is just beautiful.  Just go and give yourself at least and afternoon there to enjoy and relax.  Breakfast is wonderful and definitely schedule at least one dinner with them.  Their place is remote but a short taxi into Granada. The tranquility and views are more than worth it.  Wish I could have stayed longer.  I’ll be back for a 3rd time though, someday, it’s that good.  

Hospitality on a hill

This is a very high quality place, I would recommend to always book the cabinita/ villa, it’s great. Don’t forget to take meat and charcoal and do a sunset bbq...

It’s clean and well maintained, hosts are very sweet and helpful.

I had a bit of an accident with the oven, it malfunctioned and burnt me, they will take it to be fixed or replace it, but take caution. The incident was compensated to satisfaction.

The biggest risk here is that you don’t want to leave :)

Make sure you have a rental 4x4 to get there, it’s very central for most things-to-do around Granada.


Great place, we booked 2 extra nights

We spent two nights in the Mombacho Suite - which was a dream. A fantastic view of the volcano, and looking down on Granada and the lake.  The room has a small private deck that is perfect for sitting outside and watching the sunset, and/or doing some evening yoga.  The bed and linens are delightful, we slept so well both nights.  The semi-outdoor shower (with walls) was luscious -- really gorgeous.  The pool is fantastic -- shallow area to sit in, and deep area for swimming, along with lounging beds in the sun and shade. We ate Romain's cooking both nights we were there, and it was delicious and worth every penny. The included breakfasts were traditional Nicaraguan, and so tasty.  The whole family was so warm and welcoming.  Romain arranged us a car to go to the volcano to hike, and set it up to get us to Rivas for our trip to Ometepe at the end.  Honestly, I wish we had stayed a few more nights.  If you go, please give Leo the dog big hugs from Kendra!
