Loved this hotel! Perfect place to unwind and relax while traveling and an easy base to see Pico and Faial. Beautifully situated on the ocean in a private location but with an easy walk to town. The suite was well appointed, spacious, and allowed us to cook a few dinners and to enjoy some wine and cheese overlooking the ocean at their outdoor tables. We took advantage of the clean pool, sauna, and hot tub on a daily basis. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast buffet was filling and delicious.

Simply perfect!

This place is great! The best reception we experienced in the whole of the Azores, friendly, informative and smiley! The location is a little out of town but it has fantastic views! We absolutely loved sitting on the stone sofa and watching the sunset and only wished we had has warmer weather to take a dip in the natural pool. Loved everything, it's a place with a lot of character. 

Brilliant stay with lots of character 

Just returned from a 7 night visit (we spent 9 nights here in 2011). Great location on the island with spectacular view of Faial and the mountain. This visit included our son-in-law so there were 5 of us in a 2 bedroom apartment style unit. We had ample room and kitchen facilities were more than adequate. The natural pool was new this time providing hours of fun scrambling around on the lava rocks and cooling off in the ocean. Main pool lovely. Breakfast was good (fresh orange juicer - nice touch!). Especially happy that the facility has been well maintained - we requested the same unit as last time and it appeared just as clean and fresh as it did on our last visit. Staff, especially the young lady who has a little one on the way, were so pleasant and accommodating. As I mentioned in my review 8 years ago, if you need anything at all you have to do is ask - the staff will do whatever they can to make it happen. We plan to return one day. In the interim: Thank you Baia da Barca for another great vacation! (Recommendation: If you plan to climb the mountain, do so on the front end of your vacation. They don't climb everyday due to weather conditions so it's best not to assume that you can cherry pick a specific date- it's best to allow for some flexibility.  Also, the Gruta das Torres lava tube (worth seeing) is so much busier now - in 2011 we basically arrived and had no problem, this time we reserved in advance since they are turning people away on some days due to the increased interest and number of tourists (you can't book online yet but send them an email & they will confirm, then pay when you get there). That's it - enjoy!

During our stay of 15 days in the Azores, we stayed 3 nights in the Baia da Barca « apart hotel » in Madalena.
Leaving here was difficult for the complete family !

- very friendly staff
- clean, big & very comfortable apartements
- excellent breakfast
- great modern concept with spectacular views of the Pico montain & the coasline towards Faial Island
- at 10 minutes of the center of Madalena, so excellent to visit the nearby restaurants

One day, we will come back here !!!

Fantastic experience

We stayed 3 nights here and loved everything about it! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Maria, who gave a us all the information that we wished for. So honest, enthousiast and kind! Thank you Maria :)
The appartment was really spacious and clean we could have easily spend a week here. 
The view, the pools and the service add to a perfect stake out for a stay on Pico Island! Special regards go to the breakfast served: local products, lots of fresh fruit and delicious homemade cake!!! Good job!

Just great!

An amazing place next to the sea, with a salt water pool on the sea shore, a swimming pool and outdoor seating areas with volcanic stone tables, great for an al fresco picnic, whilst taking in the stunning sea views across to Faial! Really friendly staff and the rooms were large and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchenette. It is well located, only a short walk from Madalena centre and the Marina. The breakfast was excellent, with lots of gluten free options and a fantastic selection of local cheese. We would love to come back!

Beautiful relaxing location

We stayed 3 nights at Baia da Barca.  The staff were very warm and helpful.  The hotel was clean and beautiful.  Our room had stunning views of the mountains and ocean.  It is small and we enjoyed the quiet but loved the location as we could walk into town.

Beautiful and Peaceful

We loved this place.  Large rooms, great kitchenette, awesome views. We went to the local store, got groceries, had a meal in the room.  The breakfast is very good, everything you would want for a hotel, even though they call it an apartment.  Cleaning service each day and towels.  Staff were awesome and helpful.  Only down side was the bed was quite stiff and the neighbors barking dog all night. Would go back in a heart beat, just to sit on the tables watching the waves and sunset.

Awesome place

We stayed at Baja da Barca three nights while on Pico. Mara, who checked us in, was so pleasant and welcoming, giving us a tour of the property as she walked us to our room. The views at this property of the ocean are enough of a reason to stay - just blissful! The room we had (#3) was more than spacious. We loved that their doors tilted at the top to let in fresh air. Bathroom had a tub and handheld shower head. We did not rent a car on Pico but the town of Madalena was within a reasonable walking distance for dinner (2-3km), as well as for trips to the Coopertiva (wine tasting) and walking the lava vineyards. It’s also convenient to the port for water activities or ferries. Breakfast was included and included a variety of foods (breads, fruit, eggs, meat, cereal) and beverages (coffee, tea, juice-your-own orange juice). We would absolutely stay here again, we felt lucky to find such a gem!

Gorgeous views!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It's located about 8 min drive from the airport, with ample parking just outside the property. It is a complex of townhouses with a nice shallow saltwater pool as its centerpiece. From there, a spectacular view of the channel separating Pico and Faial islands. The room I stayed at (#8) was very spacious, quiet, neat, and had very soothing decor. Separate bedroom, kitchen and living room. Ample wifi. The breakfast had a nice variety of meats, cereals, fruits and coffee, they serve starting 7 am. Note there's no restaurants/grocery stores close by, but it's only a 6-minute drive to the Madalena town center.
