Great motel in Namwon. There is all sorts of interesting design and artwork. This hotel would be especially fun for kidsof all ages. From the second floor down to the lobby, you can go down via a slide.  The staff was helpful, and you get a basic self service breakfast. WiFi was fast, and there was good floor heating. I paid 40000 won for a single. 

Fun, interesting, and comfortable

The creativity of Korean accomodations, particularly  motels, is many times quite striking. Owners  try to attract customers in a competitive market by theming rooms, flashing facades or including karaoke rooms (norebang). Many times these aim at a particular customer base i.e couples looking for place to be together out of sight. Yet, Maum hotel is special. This is probably because what in many other places are gimmicks, at Maum seems to have been born out of creativity and a strive to make this place different: the foyer has a slide from the first floor, there is a library with comics, real used cars as decoration, rooms with billiard and table tennis, corridors painted artistically and polished concrete floors with subtle carved and painted ornaments. The hotel has family rooms and normal double rooms , but also typical "love motel" areas, such as the ground floor corridor connected to the parking where you can pay for your room in a machine, cover your car with a curtain and nobody will ever know you were there.

We stayed in a triple bed room, which was one double and two single beds. The room had a large TV and a computer, air conditioning, small fridge with some complimentary beverages, a kettle, tea and coffee , sofa and table and a bathroom with soap  etc. Each bed also had an electric blanket , and the part of the room with the two single beds had underfloor heating (the rest was polished concrete). The bathroom is the only area for improvement, however. First of all, the walls of the bathroom were glass, and even if tinted, this is weird, particularly for a family room.  Secondly, while big, it was mostly empty with nothing at all in one side of its L shape, but a bit cramped on the other side. Then it had a plastic small bathtub below a shower , but the bathtub wasn't piped in, just dropped there. Probably at some point they figured out that having a bathtub for children in a family room was a good idea, and just put on under the existing shower. Probably as well, they initial design features a real bathtub in the now empty area of the bathroom, but it was never installed? 

The people in the hotel where nice enough, although with limited English, which is not something common anyway. The hotel provides limited unmanned self-service breakfast (toast, cereals and coffee mostly) , but it also has a 24h convenience store in the lobby. Other highlights include some animals on the back of the building  (ducks, rabbits, etc), a set of karaoke rooms free of charge, a set of rooms in a guest house area on the 3rd floor and an area for children to play in one of the rooms (plastic balls, slide, bouncy matt)
