BEWARE. THERE ARE ROACHES SLEEPING WITH YOU!!! This hostel is filthy and the owner of this place is just as filthy. I noticed two LARGE roaches during my stay. One in the bathroom and one in the bedroom that I unknowingly suspected was sleeping with me. I go to take a shower at 8pm. I scream. I spray the roach until it meets its watery grave down the drain. I go to sleep and wake up at 3am in the morning to use the restroom. I scream again. There was another roach dying by my bedside (I was hoping I didn’t accidentally step on it causing it to flip upside down). These roaches like to play dead to I watched it and looked all around the room for other roaches. I did not sleep. I contacted booking.com where I booked for the hostel at night and they couldn’t reach out to the owner. I reach out to the owner and explain the situation. He tells me send my banking information and he will refund me my last night because I didn’t want to stay. He lied to me. To make matters worse, he had no problem finding another customer to take my room when I decided to leave early. He basically pocketed and stole my money like a thief. This place is not clean. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hostel at all costs.

The hostel that lets you sleep with roaches

I booked a room at Chris House from 13 to 15 April 2019 via a website for booking. We showed up and checked in our reserved room at 1 am on 14 April 2019. However, at the time, I was taken aback that the reserved room was not ready to serve us. I mean it was dirty and full of trash as if someone had stayed in that room but not left yet. It was a nightmare for me and my friend since it was midnight and we had no place else to go. We called the hostel owner (which I do not know his name) (I will refer him as "Chris") and asked him about the issue and whether there was an alternative room for us. Chris said that it was the only room available and there was a mistake of cleaning the room. I was at a loss for words. I asked him what we should do and he suggested that (i) we take that dirty room without the intention to do his job which means to make it clean for us or (ii) leave on a condition that he would return our money in full since he had already charged us the full-service fee for that day. Again, we were at a loss for words and I decided to leave. We had no place to stay together that night and stayed up all night accordingly, waiting till morning to look for a new place to stay. Seoul was extremely cold at that time I had to suffer that coldness all night long. Besides, it also cost us a significant amount of taxi fares since there was no subway available at the time.

On the next day, Chris canceled our booking, which means we would need not to come back and stay at his house the following day. Moreover, he promised to return our money by saying that he canceled our booking and we would receive the money within a week, which unfortunately he failed to do. 

In addition, I found numerous feedbacks of customers in the same situation like mine. It is when he charges the service fee before the arrival time, then something happens so he has a deal with his customers to return the money and he cancels the booking, and after that, he may never return the money. 

Please carefully consider going with his services.

Even the cheapest price is too expensive for this hostel. There are cobwebs everywhere, stains and mold on the walls and doors, they do not clean under the beds, and I am not sure if they change the sheets. It doesn't matter whether it is the public area or your room, everything is poorly maintained and cleaned.

Just filthy

We stayed in this hostel for 13 nights in September 2013.

The hostel had decent reviews but we felt a little bit let down,
The room was the size of the double bed and that's about it and there was damp.

The shower was nice, lots of pressure but the bathroom doesn't inspire cleanliness.

We spent most of our nights sleepless because of the mosquitoes!! What a terrible experience !!
Sprays didn't do anything and you couldnt had the window open so it was almost suffocating,
The aircon looked so dirty and dusty that we didn't dare to use it.

The hostel is close to the subway station but is worth to pay a little extra and stay somewhere else.

Best stay somewhere else

The room was as a the title states, a box, I had the double bed. The bathroom had absolutely no ventilation, so when you're done with a shower or toilet related business, the humidity and smell will be stuck in the room. There was moldy dark stains all over, the toilet was filthy and obviously hadn't been cleaned before I arrived.
In the corners of the bedroom, around the bed, it was just caked in dust.  Also, there was 2 occasions when someone tried to open my door, first time they actually unlocked the door and opened it without even knocking, not very comforting when you're a long way from home. 
This place is only okay if you are going to be out most of the time, don't mind filth, and are on an extremely tight budget. Even then I'm sure people would be willing to spend a bit more for better, I had seen pictures and was mislead by them. Only thing I can vouch for is the area, there's a lot of places to eat nearby and 2 convenience stores.
