We enjoyed a varied selection of Spanish cuisine. Including tasty fresh fish and mariscos dishes finished off by the best chuletón in Tarifa.

We will definitely go back. Very friendly staff and service with a smile!

Superb dining experience

Lovely stay at this centrally located hostel. Ended up extending my stay several times. 
The owners/staff are great people and really made me feel at home. When the hostel became quiet, they invited me various times to join them for drinks and food. 
Facilities are basic but do cover everything you need.
The rooms come with very large lockers for your valuable items. 4 showers each for ladies/gents proved to be sufficient and never had to wait. There is daily cleaning of all bed- and bathrooms making for a clean space all the time. 
Suggestions for the next round of improvements/renovation would be the addition of privacy curtains to the bed and better located i.e. individual electrity outlets per bed.

A home away from home

We spent a night here during holy week and ended up having a great time!
It was the first time we stayed in a hostel with our 3 kids and it was a very nice experience. The room was clean as were the common areas. The service very good with super friendly and helpful staff.
Located in the heart of this beautiful town we would definitely recommend going here!


Perfect get away!

Wake Up in Tarifa was perfect for us! The hostel itself is beautifully decorated but still functional. It is centrally located, 5 minutes to the beach and the streets around are filled with great bars and restaurants. Amparo (owner) made us feel like one of the family and was so helpful! Tarifa is amazing and I would definitely come back to Wake Up!

Amazing Hostel and People!

The staff has been super nice - they were available for a late check in, they are nice to talk and to ask advices for beaches and how to get there. The position is also really good for the ones who wants to stay in the city center, it is also 10 minutes away from Tarifa Bus Station where yuou can take the bus for Bolonia (2.5 euros) or the most famous Valdevaqueros beach (2 euros).

The hostel is clean - the negative side is that there are 4 showers (for each sex) in the same room and two toilets for everyone which means that if the hostel is full - as it happened to me, in the evenijng after the beach it gets crowed and crazy to get a shower. 

The room was fine with safe lockers and clean. It was what I expected and the AC was working. There was also enough space for everyone so I didn't feel unconfortable. 

The hostel has a kitchen always open and also a bar that offers drinks and breakfast with toasts for 2 euros. 

I think if you plan to stay in Tarifa, enjoy the beaches, going to the restaurants or party it's perfet. Maybe I would not recommend it for people who wants to rest, it would be better to take somethijng outside the city center.

We were in a large group so all the girls stayed in the 12 room dormitory, unfortunately this is an annex on the roof.

There is barely any air in here thanks to only having 2 very small windows, aircon which doesn't work and it smells as the rooftop next door has about 20-30 pigeon coops.

Location is great for being central but it's opposite a really popular nightclub and in front of a church (bells ringing at 9am)

Showers and toilets were tiny, you had to stand at the side of the toilet bowl to be able to close the door.

To be fair this was my first time staying in an Hostal so maybe they are all this bad. I'm just thankful we were only staying one night :)

First and last time in a Hostal for me

Great hostel in a great location, BUT, we stayed there for 3 nights and couldn’t sleep much. Our room was to the square, were the party is on till 6am, and there is literally a bar table behind the window, and because of there is no A.C, you have to keep the window open to get some air to the room (actually smoke from people who are smoking behind the window...) But of course probably other months besides august are better. 
Beds were comfortable.

Genuinely don't understand the other reviews.

We decided to stay here because of the amazing rating of this hostel, and were bitterly disappointed. After travelling around the south of Spain for 3 weeks, one of our final destinations was set to be Tarifa and we had been told some amazing things about the place and so we accepted the seemingly expensive rooms here (30E a night instead of the 17E we've been used to in Sevilla, Granada and Malaga) as the reviews were awesome.

When we arrived, the front door was locked, and we had to ring the bell. We assumed that your key would give you access to the front door once you checked in but thats not the case, you have to ring the bell almost every time you come into the hostel. As such, theres a curfew on entering the hostel - you can enter whenever you like but after midnight you cant leave again once you've come in.. weird. The front desk manager didn't speak any English, which is fine, but she didn't make any effort to welcome us and didn't seem very warm, so we left it and hoped that was just her and probably in a bad mood. 

We were put in the front room, room 1, which has no air conditioning which we were pretty surprised about. It got horrendously hot in the room over night, which left us both to escape to the "lounge" which is really just a couple of couches next to the front door, from 5am until 10am. Ridiculous. The only way to keep the room bareable was to keep the window open, which wasn't an option considering there's a nightclub right across the road which is open until really late into the night (like 5am). 

There is only one block of showers and toilets per gender for the entire 66 capacity hostel, which is insane when the place is full. 2 toilets in the ladies (i obviously didnt check the mens but i assume its the same), and 5 showers for 30 odd women! I almost always had to wait to shower or go to the bathroom, and in the morning the bins in the bathrooms were overflowing until the cleaner came around 11am. Speaking of which, we only saw the cleaning take place in common areas and bathrooms (not including kitchen) and not into the rooms, which makes me shudder to think how dirty the place was).

The kitchen isnt really a kitchen. There's a camping style hotplate and grill, and a microwave and fridge. The fridge was turned off and as a result what little food we did have for lunches and things went off. No apology from the manager when I pointed it out to her.

Because there was no real common space, there was absolutely no 'vibe' or positive fun feeling about a place which is what you expect in a hostel. The 'lounge' area is where the one staff person hangs out during the day watching TV and waiting for arrivals, so you feel like you're encroaching on their space when you sit in there. They never made an effort to talk to us at all so we just felt like we were unwanted in the hostel. We met no one from the hostel the entire time we were there because of the lack of common area, which was poor. 

We had booked in for 4 nights and decided to leave a day early as our experience was so poor. When we brought this to the attention of the manager she was very upset and wanted us to pay for the extra night, but in the end let us go with only paying for the nights we stayed there.

Genuinely the only good thing about this place is its location.
