I stayed there for 4 nights. Its located between puerta del sol and atocha so really central! The owner is so friendly and welcoming! Toilets are clean although they are shared. The interior is amazing. Pillows are uncomfortable.

City break

Hotel is well decorated. when you enter inside you feel like in a museum. I booked a single room with shared bathroom. everything was clean and nice. the only thing pillows in the bed was very old. they need to renew the pillows. rest of accomodation was well.

Nice Hostel

Such a shame that the man in charge was so so rude, and made us feel so uncomfortable. The rules were ridiculously strict: no alcohol or food consumption in the premises, no smoking on our private balcony; he even told me off for walking barefoot to and from our room and the communal bathroom. Such an unpleasant experience. Beautiful decor and very central location were ruined.

Awful awful staff

It's cheap and this probably the one and only advantage. The bed uncomfortable with thin sheets and blankets. No toilet paper at dirty shared bathroom. Service person far away from being friendly. Spend a few more euros to get some sleep!

It's like sleeping on the Highway...

Stayed at Hostal Horizonte with my father. We had the deluxe room with balcony. 

Hostal Horizonte is good value basic accommodation with lovely decor in a very good location. 

Loved the decor, especially our bathroom. 

The staff member, maybe owner, was very friendly - José - and met us and helped us leave, and gave us a helpful map and let us  leave our bags there the day we left to collect later.

The negatives were that it is very old (e.g. the shutters were a bit stiff and shower not very powerful). The soap was very watered down and we had no bin in the room, but did have a little bin liner provided. It is also very noisy at night (but I think this is normal for Madrid) 

The decoration throughout the Hostal was creative and different to other hostels we've stayed in, albeit a little dark. But it was certainly a special touch and really nice.

Location is excellent, only 3 minutes from Plaza Santa Ana near Puerta de Sol. Also easy to get to La Latina for tapas. Close to a metro station on line 1 so easy from airport. 

Free fast wifi

Didn't see anyone else whilst we were there even though online it said it was fully booked, so if you want a social hostel than perhaps this isn't for you.
