Stayed one night. Rooms are in an old mill, which has been sympathetically restored so that original character of the building remains. Hotel is located on the banks of the Minho river, which presumably provided the water power for the mill. Comfortable with good facilities.  Restaurant was excellent and service was good.  Parking was adequate and secure. WiFi was just acceptable. A definite revisit if in the area again.

We attend with one other couple while walking selected stages of the Camino. Our night here was idyllic - apart from the dogs barking gently in the early hours - which led to a restless night for some . The weather was unseasonably warm in early October and we made good use in the afternoon of the smallish but very welcome swimming pool and the sunbathing area adjacent to the pool. The mill is something  if a historic site and on the banks of a beautiful sunlit river ( while we were there at least ). There are plenty of walks and they have kayaks for those intrepid enough when the water is high. 

The wine expert was away when we stayed but Santiago ( who appeared to be holding the fort almost single handed) was most helpful in looking after our needs and those if the other guests that arrived progressively as the evening progressed. We were able to play a few hands of Bridge in the sun and then move inside with helpful assistance if Santiago and his small team. Dinner when it came was typical Spanish fair - good honest food but nothing too exciting . It was washed down by a tasty local vino blanco  - or two. The rooms were in converted farm buildings very tastefully decorated but subject to quite a lot of noise from neighbours and the perennial problem in October that the aircons are all switched off so the windows have to be open - which means the barking of dogs can disturb the ongodly!

The breakfast - self service - was meagre - not helped by a clearly unhelpful member of staff on duty.

But despite the few negatives this was a very special place to stay which we would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Rejuvenated !

Fantastic Oasis of tranquility 

This hotel is a wonderful building, set in idyllic Countryside. The Old Mill is fascinating and it is a lovely walk down the river bank and through the woods. It truly is a magical place , it is like stepping back in time. Unfortunately that is where the love affair ends. We arrived on a Friday and it would seem that there was only us and one other couple with a small child staying at the hotel that night. There only seemed to be one chap running the place, he checked us in gave us a brief tour of the building, and promptly disappeared we saw him again at dinner where he seemed to be waiter bar man and cook. The food was okay, my capon had to go back because it was barely warm.  He seated us on the table next to the kitchen door and the small family on the next table behind us. It was not a relaxing meal, and we could not wait to get back to our room for some peace and quiet. That lasted about 30 minutes. We were in room Quinte. Which is the dark little room on the ground floor, underneath the stairs. The family went clomping up the stairs to their room, clomped around the room for about an hour, moving furniture, and the toddler was screaming and shouting, as they do. Finally at about 11.30 there was silence. The second night was worse, the hotel was full and there was a couple in the room above us who clomped and thumped around untill about 12:30. One of them obviously feel asleep reading a book because it thumped on the floor, at about 1:30.
Top tip 1, bring a map. Our sat nav packed up about 15 kilometers away, the car sat nav could not get a signal either and just kept saying off road, Waze would not work and eventually Google maps kicked in and we found it, we did ring for directions, but were just told to turn at the crossroads when we saw the sign for Fervenza, problem was finding the crossroads.
Top tip 2, this hotel is great for family's, groups, Camino walkers who will just fall into bed exhausted and poeple who are hard of hearing. It is not suitable for a relaxing weekend for couples.
Top tip 3. Ask for an upstairs room. (Or take ear defenders)
Top tip 4, if you are going for a romantic weekend , look at the pictures on the web site, see those lovely floorboards? That is all there is between you and the room below...get a downstairs room! Or keep the noise down, because everyone will hear everything!
There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, no mini bar, no information in the room about TV channels, but there is a hair dryer;-)

Fabulous,but!

Hidden away in an ancient forest by a beautiful stretch of river, this really is a special place. To fully appreciate it, walk south along the riverbank through the 400-year old oaks and alders to the Neira bridge - heaven.

Our room was old, atmospheric and comfortable, and our evening meals were exceptional, with the Galician specialities a particular treat. But, as other reviewers have pointed out, service is a problem. Our room was not cleaned and the bed was left unmade, calls to reception went unanswered and it took half an hour to find someone to tell us where to go for breakfast. That said, two of the three staff, when found, were helpful and enthusiastic.

Nevertheless, our overall impression was positive. If you like characterful places in very special locations and excellent food, A Fervensa is for you. If you want attentive service, best to go elsewhere.

A beautiful location

Wonderfully located beside the river in an idyllic rural setting. Lots of wildlife around, ranging from dragonflies, crickets, fish, birds, etc.

However, flawed in multiple aspects: coffee that tastes like if is dragged from the bed of the local stream, staff that range from friendly but incompetent to downright lazy, and food that is quite poor.  Facilities are also getting a little tired (e.g., shower heads that don't work, doors that don't close, etc).

Reinvigorate the staff, replace the chef/ cook, and yes, this would be a hidden gem. However, on current performance, stay well clear.
