Nothing special about the room here, but it was clean and warm, which was enough for one night. The food at their restaurant was good and the menu price fair, but the room was definitely overpriced. I guess it's because it was holiday season but definitely not worth what we paid. They include breakfast but it's so small that we would have preferred to have it somewhere else. The good thing is that there is free parking very close to the place (it's not the hostal's, it's for anybody in town).

Good for one night

Once leaving Barcelona our trip was night-to-night, deciding where we would go the next day and making accommodation reservations for that night.  Laguardia is a very popular destination and finding accommodations of the type we are accustomed to was difficult at the last minute.  Hostal Biazteri seemed a bargain for a good location.  And it was.  We stayed 2 nights.  The room was simple, but with a rustic charm; the bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were immaculately clean.  The location couldn't have been better, just inside the walls of the historic area.  There is no parking inside the walls, but we found a good spot just outside the gate, next the church opposite the hotel.  We were able to drive into the square and park temporarily to unload and load the car.  Getting luggage up to our room was another matter.  Ours was a 4th floor room, no elevator.   Difficult if you have a handicap or are elderly.  Reception is at the bar of the hotel restaurant, which isn't clear when you book.  We were given the key to our room and the hotel door around the corner.  The front door is locked after a certain time at night.  We did appreciate the motion sensor lights in the stairwell and room vestibules, but were not given clear information on the room numbering, so we had a little difficulty finding our room.  Also not clear is the type of breakfast served.  A lovely tapas breakfast is displayed in the pub, but the breakfast included with the room is a cup of coffee and a roll.  The price of the room was very reasonable, so that was fine, but it wasn't mentioned until we tried to order something other than the roll.  Also, the man working at the pub in the mornings was more interested in visiting and talking to locals who came in for coffee than hostel customers.  We were pretty much ignored until we commanded his attention.  We were never able to get any food from the restaurant, it always seemed to be closed.  We felt as if our presence was an imposition to the staff, except the cleaning staff who did a wonderful job maintaining the room.  I would probably stay here again because of the location and very clean room, but would only take the clothes and items need for the stay up to the room because of the steep stairs and lack of a place to put a suitcase.  And I would skip the pub/restaurant for meals. There are nice bakeries and grocery shops to be able to get something on your own and some great restaurants.

Clean, well located and inexpensive

I visited the Rioja Alavesa with my girlfriend for two days, and we stayed in this hostel for one night. 

We arrived on a evening of a Monday at around 18:30h, and the whole premises (bar + hostel) seemed very closed. We went  to the tourism office to ask, and they were very helpful, they contacted the owner (Laguardia is a small town, everyone knows each other) and he came in a jiffy. 

Hostel is no frills. All fine, the bathroom door made a hell of a racket when opening and closing, but besides that, no complaints. A simple but ok breakfast was included. Very well located, downtown, and WiFi worked without problems.

Recommendable if you're not looking for an "affordable luxury" kind of place.

Simple, no-frills hostel - but very well located.

We stayed here 4 nights.  The rooms are over the bar and restaurant.  The room we stayed in could best be described as spartan.  A double bed was two single beds pushed together, there were no pictures or decorations of any sort on the walls, there were no shelves or desk, only an armoir (we ended up putting things on the floor for lack of space), two inky dinky bedside tables, and only one chair that seemed borrowed from someone's terrace or patio.  The metal chair served as a table for us.  The room was kept quite clean during our stay and had a spacious shower, but it completely lacked any sort of charm or character.  The beds were uncomfortably hard.  Tuesday through Thursday were very quiet, but when Friday arrived, so did the noise.  Lots of noise just outside the window from the bar, neighbors coming in drunk at 2:00 AM and later, and someone in the room above that must have been wearing army boots and practicing manuevers all night.  We were supposed to have spent 5 nights there, but they had messed up our reservation and had not booked a room for us on the last night.  Fortunately, the e-mail confirmation pointed out their error and they worked to find us another room in Laguardia for the last night.  It turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  Both of us couldn't wait to leave even though moving for one night is a hassle.  The last place we stayed was so much better in every way.  We loved our stay in Laguardia and the time we spent there and in the surrounding area and towns.  The people are so friendly and welcoming.  I can see returning some day, but we won't be staying at Hostal Biazteri again.  It wasn't terrible by any means.  We have stayed in far, far worse.  We are used to 2 star hotels.  We usually stay in 2 star establishments.  It was just lacking in many ways that I know there are bound to be some places to stay that would provide a more pleasant resting place.

Modest room at a modest price in the heart of La Rioja

We got this place because of the localisation but in the end the result wasn't good. Wifi connection wasn't working, there were little toilette papers, bed was very uncomfortable, and the service itself very poor quality. I don't recommend this place.

Horrible restaurant and the service worst than poor. Be careful, don’t go there and look for the nice places in the small and beautiful streets. It’s not a cheap restaurant for the quality and service you get. The restaurant is located in the main square of the village and this is why the people go there.
