I travelled to Gallivare on the overnight train from Stockholm with my family and we stayed here from the Monday, returning in Good Friday. We were made very welcome and the rooms were so warm and comfortable. For the first day we were told we were the only guests, which was so sad because it's such a lovely place. We had 2 apartment rooms with everything we could ask for in the kitchens, bedrooms and lounge areas. The dining chairs were huge, like armchairs. Very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was included and amazing, with so much choice and the view from the dining room was beautiful. In the evenings we ate in the restaurant, which I have to admit didn't have very much choice. That said, what we did have was absolutely delicious. 
The whole area was like a giant Christmas card with so much snow and it hardly ever stopped snowing. It must be one of the few places that still have snow in  April and such a lovely scene to wake up to each morning. It was probably because of this that we never actually saw the Northern Lights, which I have to say would have been a bonus, but maybe we can visit again some time.

Would have liked to stay longer

Hotel is small, basically a ski lodge aimed for Swedish visitors. You need a car, we were 4 families group of 13 and had no car so we had to quickly rent one and to get around from hotel to ski slope and to town. Car rental same price as taxi return trip to town, 10 minutes away! Hotel checkin was ok, could have been more patient and informative for 13 overseas visitors. Other staff were very helpful, who told about restaurant, sauna and even set up table tennis table one afternoon for us. Young Chef was great, good food and he actually talked to us about what we would like next day for dinner.  Rooms are basic but functional with double bed and bunk beds for kids / teenagers. The ski shop and lifts are about 10 minutes drive away or a 35 minute walk (not 15 minute walk as first receptionist kept saying, all uphill/ downhill in minus 20 Celsius and windy). On the last night we had a great show from the Northern Lights, fantastic, hotel car park is a good place to see them. Overall, a reasonable place to stay, aimed at locals but speaking English no problem, needs to figure out how to welcome groups when they arrive, but besides that a good place to stay, thank you to the lady Manager and chef who went out of their way to make the stay special.

Wonderful view over Gällivare and Malmberg and too bad that the facility had to go out of business.
Hopefully will someone with the right interest and funding bring back life in time for next season.
Also very interesting for hiking during the summer season.

Wonderful view 

This is a nice hotel but it seemed understaffed for its size.  Other than that, our visit was very good.  The room, to which we had been upgraded, was huge - a two room suite actually.  We did not use the second room as the original bedroom section was spacious and comfortable.  The layout is a bit strange with ups and downs and no lift but we were able to move the luggage through the emergency door.  

The food in the restaurant was good albeit a bit costly.  The room echoes so it is really loud in there if it is busy.  Breakfast was fine.  The view is really pretty but blinding sun can be an issue.  

Truly, we would probably not return to Gallivare so whether or not we would stay here again is not relevant.

A ski resort hotel in the summer

Spectacular view from the hotel to the city, but the rooms were extremely small with bunk bed directly from ships. However they were with quite new decorations, air conditioning works well and it was easy to sleep in summer light conditions also because there were no window in room. Restaurant offered as much as two main courses but the steak was fresh and tasty.
