We were delayed on our journey from the UK so didn't arrive until after midnight.  Renata, the owner, had waited up for us and welcomed us warmly.

Stayed in the 2nd floor, 2 bed apartment which was spacious for 3 or 4 adults. The property is in a quiet street parallel to the road between Riehen and Basel.  A quiet location.

All rooms very clean, comfortable beds, interesting decor with lots of 'nik-naks' and eclectic mix of furniture.  The kitchen/diner has a dining table and seats for 4 and everything you need is supplied.

Breakfast was provided each morning at the time we asked for it.  Juice, cereals, yoghurts, croissants and a selection of bread rolls with cold meats, cheese and preserves. An endless supply of marvellous coffee, or tea if required.  All served in a comfortable breakfast room with large windows looking into the garden.

Tram stop - pfaffelhof - was a couple of hundred metres away and was an easy trip into Basel centre in 10 minutes.  Tram and bus travel into and around Basel are free, provided by the b&b as part of a local scheme.  Parking is in the street is free and abundant, although you might not get a space right outside the property first off, but you will always have the chance to move your car as all the spaces free up during the daytime.

Oh, we sussed the wi-fi :- on the door to the kitchen it gives you the name of the router and the password for access.  If you search there is a repeater with the same name as the router, suffixed with a 'z'.  same password.  Logged into this and had strong signal and reasonably quick internet access thereafter,

All in all a very comfortable, relaxed stay in and I would recommend it for couples, friends or families.

Would return without a second thought

If you're staying or working in Basel, this is convenient and not too expensive - a 10 minute tram ride towards Riehen, and you get a free travelcard as part of your stay. Some of the rooms are in the main house, others including mine are in a single story building by the pool. Quirkily furnished and rather dated but very clean and homely. I stayed in the autumn so can't speak for the pool temperature but the room was warm and comfortable. The bathroom was really tiny and because it was shoehorned in by a sloping roof you cannot easily stand up straight (I am 1.85m tall) I banged my head several times while using it. There is no wifi at all that I could use. The lady who runs the place explained the signal was poor in my particular room but, truth is, I could get no wifi signal at all anywhere on site and I had to use the not-great signal on my mobile to connect my laptop. It's minor things like this that will irritate a business traveller (wifi is essential, in my view). Continental breakfast is fine and all in all it is handy enough. There's parking in nearby streets if you need it.

Comfortable, quirky, no wifi

When you have to call the police on your landlady, your vacation just took a rough turn. Our stay started out beautifully with warm treatment and good feelings all around. As a professional musician in town to study and research, I sang, played, and entertained her friends for two dinner parties (for free). An older Swiss lady, the owner seemed to be very charming and appreciative. However, when her old coffee maker broke as we were using it, she demanded $400 to fix it or she would throw us out. She yelled at my wife for several minutes without letting her speak. I even went to the police, who were embarrassed by her behavior and called her to calm her down. After that, needless to say, being in her house was fraught with terrible anxiety, especially for our young daughter. We rented the 3rd level, which has only two bedrooms, a kitchenette, and a glass shower right in the hallway! The ground level living room, kitchen, and dining room, where a person might relax on a comfy chair, were completely off limits––her private space, she said, although it wasn't marked "private" or even corded off. (She told you the rules as you broke them.) I thought that the main idea of a B&B is to have a comfy home away from home. The swimming pool is dirty and freezing. The wifi signal is useless upstairs. Local church bells clang away endlessly several times a day. It rained constantly for the first few weeks, so we used the umbrellas by the front door only to be scolded for using her "private" long umbrellas; the cheap, short ones are for the tourists! Even though her printer shows up on the wifi signal, you are not allowed to use it. I know that Germans and Swiss can be forthright, but this felt like the movie "Psycho." (I wonder if the glass shower has lockable doors!) Stay here at your own risk. She might be fine, but she will be Frau Verrückt.
